The embolization was used for the treatment of 10 patients with tumors and vascular lesions in the oral and maxillofacial region. The patients were diagnosed as having vascular deformity, hemangioma, hemangiofibroma and chemodectoma. The selective and superselective target artery embolization were conducted and the satisfactory results were achieved. The procedures, effects and precautions of the embolic therapy were also discussed.

The effects of the novel GH releasing hexapeptide, Hexarelin, on cultured human pituitary somatotrophinomas were investigated. Hexarelin (0.01 - 100 nmol / L) dose dependently stimulated GH secretion up to 4.6 fold. Maximal effects occurred with 10 nmol / L. These effects were very similar to those observed with GHRP 6. The effects of Hexarelin were reduced by phloretin, an inhibitor of protein kinase C (PKC). The rate of phosphatidylinositol (PI) hydrolysis was markedly increased by Hexarelin in a dose dependent manner. These results demonstrated that Hexarelin could directly stimulate GH secretion by human pituitary somatotrophs in a PKC dependent manner, probably via activation of the PI transduction system.

The role of CyclinD1 and estrogen receptor (ER) in the process of proliferation and metastasis of breast neoplasm and their relationship were studied. The expression levels of CyclinD1 and ER in the tissue samples were detected by using flow cytometry and L SAB immunohistochemistry staining, respectively. The results showed that CyclinD1 and ER expression levels in breast cancer were significantly higher than in benign breast neoplasm (P0.05), but the CyclinD1 expression level in ER (+) group was significantly higher than in ER (-) group (P<0.05). It was concluded that CyclinD1 expression level might be obviously related with the proliferation and metastasis of breast neoplasm and ER.

Fifty six SD rats were randomly divided into the normal control group and the operation group. The operating group was subdivided into six groups on the basis of killing time (the 12th h, the first day, 3rd day, first week, 2nd week and 4th week) after vagotomy (VG). The pancreatic tissues were taken for HE and Feulgen staining. The DNA content of pancreatic exocrine cells was determined by a domestically fabricated computer image analyzing system. In the control group, on the first day or in the first week after VG, the pancreatic samples were taken for transmission electron microscopic examination. The DNA content of pancreatic exocrinal cells was decreased from 1 to 3 days after VG. The secretion was found to be in inhibitory state and One week later, it gradually restored. The results indicated that the proliferation and the function of the SD rat's pancreatic exocrinal cells were prohibited at initial stage after VG, which might be concerned, at least in part, with dominance and nutrition of vagus.

AIM: To investigate the presence of glutamate transporters and receptors in mouse testis. METHODS: Glutamate uptake analysis was performed to study the function of glutamate transporters in mouse testis. Comparative RT-PCR technique and sequencing analysis were used to study the expression of glutamate receptors and transport- ers in mouse testis. RESULTS: Mouse testis possessed glutamate uptake capacity with sodium-dependence. Vmax value of glutamate uptake was (1.60 ± 0.21) pmol/min per mg protein and Km value of glutamate uptake was (11.0±1.6) μmol/L in mouse testis according to saturation analysis. Furthermore, the uptake activity could be inhibited by DHK (GLT1 selective inhibitor) and THA (glutamate uptake inhibitor). In addition, RT-PCR results revealed that glutamate transporters (GLT1 and EAAC1) and ionotropic glutamate receptors (NR1, NR2B, GluR6 and KA2) were expressed in mouse testis. CONCLUSION: Glutamate transporters and receptors do exist in mouse testis.

The model of fulminant hepatic failure induced by acetaminophen was established in dogs to observe the changes of hepatic hemodynamics and plasma histamine levels in portal vein (PV), hepatic vein (HV), abdominal aorta (AA) and inferior vena cava (ICV). The results showed that the portal vein resistance (PVR) was elevated and portal venous blood flow (PVF) was decreasedl hepatic artery resistance (HAR) was decreased and the hepatic artery blood flow (HAF),portal venous pressure (PVP), wedged hepatic venous pressure (WHVP) and inferior vena cava pressure (ICVP) had no changes. The histamine of the PV, HV,ICV and AA were all elevated after formation of fulminant hepatie failure. And the increasing wave Of the HV was the highest. The increased histamine in HV may be mediated by H, *** the contraction of hepatic venulae, result ing liver sinusoid congestion, increasing PVR and decreasing PVF which exacerbate the liver cell damage. Moreover, the more selvere liver damage, the more histamine was released, and a vicious circle may ensue. Our results also suggest the possibility of using,H1 receptor antagonist to treat the disturbance of liver hemodynamfics in severe acute liver damage. The increased histamine in systematic circulation as a vasodilator may lower blood pressure and accelerate heart *** increase of plasma histamine may play an important role in the changes of hepatic and systemic hemodynamics in fulminant hepatic failure.

C 57 inbred mice ( n =100) were employed to develop animal models of Lewis pulmonary carcinoma. The study on the tumor inhibition was performed by infiltrative injection of 3.5 % Cy or chlorhexidinum of two different concentrations around the tumor respectively. The survival, survival rate, tumor growth rate, and pulmonary metastasis node number were compared. The results showed that the inhibitory effects of 0.1 % and 0.5 % chlorhexidinum were the same as that of 3.5 % Cy, but the toxic and side effects were obviously reduced as compared with 3.5 % Cy. The optimal concentration of chlorhexidinum was 0.5 %. This provides a new approach for infiltrative injection of the tumor for clinical use.

This study was designed to investigate the expression and localization of PDGF, bFGF, EGF, and TGFα in gastric coronary vein of cirrhotic (n=30)and non-cirrhotic patients (n=10) using immunohistochemical technique. The strongly positive immunostaining rate were 93%, 89%, 70% and 68% respectively in cirrhotic patients. The immunostaining was negative in non-cirrhotic patients. The damage to endothelium, hypertrophy and hyperplasia of vascular smooth muscle cells and vascular remodeling were seen in gastric coronary vein of cirrhotic patients. These results suggested that gastric coronary vein could produce growth factor during cirrhosis, the growth factor can act on the vascular function and/or structure via autocrine-paracrine mechanism.

Subacute Thyroiditis as Seen Initially in ENT Department—— A Reportof30 Cases

To assess the pharyngeal presentations and the diagnostic value of thyroid SPECT and thyroid fine needle aspiratory biopsy (FNAB) in subacute thyroiditis (SAT) as seen initially in ENT department, 30 patients, during the course of SAT, were examined for pharyngeal symptoms and tested for serum T 3, T 4 level. The thyroid SPECT imaging or thyroid FNAB were performed. Our results showed that, of the 30 patients, 21 had sore throat of various degrees, and 9 had abnormal sensation of throat. Six were diagnosed as having SAT by only SPECT, in the remaining 24, the final diagnoses was established by SPECT combined with FNAB. Two of them were finally diagnosed as having SAT by trial treatment with oral prednisone. It is concluded that sore throat and abnormal sensation of pharynx are the important presentations of SAT, and thyroid SPECT imaging and thyroid FNAB are valuable in diagnosing SAT.
