Attaining synergetic equilibrium of electrical conductivity and tensile strength in GQDs@GN/Cu composites through multi-scale intragranular and intergranular reinforcements

The configuration and quality of reinforcements, as well as the robustness of interfacial bonding,holding a critical significance in determining the concurrence between electrical conductivity and mechanical strength in metal matrix composites. In this study, citric acid was employed as the precursor for synthesizing multiscale carbon nanomaterials(graphene quantum dots and graphene, abbreviated as GQDs and GN). The GQDs@GN/Cu composites were fabricated through a segmented ball milling process in conjunction with subsequent spark plasma sintering(SPS). The intragranular GQDs and intergranular GQDs@GN had synergistically reinforced Cu composites through Orowan strengthening, load transfer strengthening and refinement strengthening. Furthermore,the robust interface bonding between GQDs@GN and Cu effectively mitigated interfacial impedance stemming from electron-boundary scattering. The yield strength and ultimate tensile strength of the GQDs@GN/Cu composites were recorded as 270 and 314 MPa, respectively, representing an improvement of 92 and 28% over pure Cu, while maintaining electrical conductivity at a level comparable to that of pure Cu. This study advances the understanding of the possibility of realizing a synergistic compatibility between electrical conductivity and mechanical strength in Cu composites.

Atomically precise Ru-O-Ru clusters for enhanced water dissociation in alkaline hydrogen evolution

Atomic clusters typically exhibit distinctive electronic structures and physicochemical ***,as the size decreases,their ability to adsorb and dissociate water also diminishes,thereby affecting chemical reactions involving water *** the adsorption and dissociation capabilities of atomic clusters towards water molecules and elucidating the mechanisms underlying their performance enhancement have become important research ***,employing the carrier-anchored strategy,Ru-O-Ru atomic clusters were prepared and displayed excellent activity and durability in the hydrogen evolution ***,the Ru-O-Ru atomic clusters exhibited only 86 mV overpotential at 100 mA·cm−^(2) and superior membrane-electrode-assembly activity than commercial Ru/C *** radiation-based Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic measurements revealed that the modification of oxygen in Ru-O-Ru units promoted the reorientation of water molecules from a H-up orientation to H-down,therefore,enhanced the formation of strong hydrogen-bond network of interfacial water on the surface of Ru-O-Ru clusters,leading to enhanced adsorption and dissociation of water and accelerated Volmer *** findings provide a potential strategy and deep insights for the development of atomic clusters in electrocatalysts.

Clarification of the dispersion mechanism of cathode slurry of lithium-ion battery under effects of both poly vinylidene fluoride/carbon black ratio and mixing time

This paper presents the effects of both poly vinylidene fluoride(PVDF)/carbon black(CB)ratio(m PVDF:m CB)and mixing time t on the dispersion mechanism of the cathode slurry of lithium-ion battery(LIB).The dispersion mechanism is deduced from the electrochemical,morphological and rheological properties of the cathode slurry by using electrical impedance spectroscopy(EIS),scanning electron microscopy and rheology methods,*** the perspective of EIS method,static simulation models are established in the COMSOL Multiphysics software;meanwhile,the simulated results are used to verify the correctness of the electrochemical properties of the cathode *** a result,the following conclusions are able to be ***,in the case of the mass ratio m_(PVDF):m_(CB)=5:10,LiCoO_(2) particles are completely coated by the mixture of CB and PVDF to form a stable polymer gel *** or lower m_(PVDF):m_(CB) leads to the larger impedance and worse dispersion status for the cathode ***,when t=6 min,a good gel-like conductive network structure is formed by coating the thinner evenly dispersed CB–PVDF double layer around LiCoO_(2) ***,a strategy regarding to both m_(PVDF):m_(CB) and t in experimental scale is proposed,which has the capability of improving the performance of LIB.

The coupling of energy-saving small molecule conversion reactions and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in seawater electrolytes can reduce the energy consumption of seawater electrolysis and mitigate chlorine corrosion ***,the fabrication of efficient multifunctional catalysts for this promising technology is of great ***,a heterostructured catalyst comprising CoP and Ni_(2)P on nickel foam(CoP/Ni_(2)P@NF)is reported for hydrazine oxidation(HzOR)-assisted alkaline seawater *** coupling of CoP and Ni_(2)P optimizes the electronic structure of the active sites and endows excellent electrocatalytic performance for HzOR and ***,the two-electrode HzOR-assisted alkaline seawater splitting(OHzS)cell based on the CoP/Ni_(2)P@NF required only 0.108 V to deliver 100 mA·cm^(−2),much lower than 1.695 V for alkaline seawater electrolysis ***,the OHzS cell exhibits satisfactory stability over 48 h at a high current density of 500 mA·cm^(−2).Furthermore,the CoP/Ni_(2)P@NF heterostructured catalyst also efficiently catalyzed glucose oxidation,methanol oxidation,and urea oxidation in alkaline seawater *** work paves a path for high-performance heterostructured catalyst preparation for energy-saving seawater electrolysis for H_(2) production.

Nano-enabled silicone-rubber articles for feeding or chewing could be a source of metallic nanoparticles(NPs)directly exposed to infants and young ***,the impact of steam disinfection on release of NPs and the related potential risks to children's health are ***,we investigated contents and form of Ag and Zn in 57 nano-enabled silicone-rubber baby bottle teats,pacifiers,and teethers of seven countries and examined the impacts of steam disinfection on in vitro bioaccessibility(IVBA)of Ag and Zn in the *** 89%articles had a mixture of Ag-and Zn-containing NPs and the teethers had relatively high Ag and Zn contents(up to 501 and 254μg/g,respectively).Steam disinfection caused rubber decomposition into micro(nano)plastics(0.54-15.7μm)and NP release from the interior of bulk rubber and micro-sized plastics,thus enhancing the IVBA of Ag and Zn by up to 5.5 *** findings provide insights into mechanisms for NP release by steam *** oral exposure risk assessment suggested low health concerns on individual metal release,our study points out the need to assess the potential health risks of child co-exposure to metallic NPs and micro(nano)plastics.

Nano-Ni-Induced Electronic Modulation of MoS_(2) Nanosheets Enables Energy-Saving H_(2) Production and Sulfide Degradation

Electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution and sulfion(S^(2-))recycling are promising strategies for boosting H_(2)production and removing environmental ***,a nano-Ni-functionalized molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))nanosheet was assembled on steel mesh(Ni-MoS_(2)/SM)for use in sulfide oxidation reaction-assisted,energy-saving H_(2)*** and theoretical calculation results revealed that anchoring nano-Ni on high-surface-area slack MoS_(2)nanosheets not only optimized catalyst adsorption of polysulfides but also played an important role in promoting hydrogen evolution reaction kinetics by absorbing OH_(ad),thereby greatly enhancing the catalytic performance toward sulfide oxidation reaction and hydrogen evolution ***,the Ni/MoS^(2-)based hydrogen evolution reaction+sulfide oxidation reaction system achieved nearly 100%hydrogen production efficiency and only consumed 61%less power per kWh than the oxygen evolution reaction+hydrogen evolution reaction system,which suggested our proposed Ni-MoS_(2)and novel hydrogen production system are promising for sustainable energy production.

Highly Red Emissive Conjugated Homopolymers Based on Double B←N Bridged Bipyridine Unit

Conjugated homopolymers based on six-member rings,e.g.,polyfluorene,always exhibit blue emission and conjugated homopolymers based on five-member rings,e.g.,polythiophene,can give red emission with low *** this work,we report a series of new conjugated homopolymers based on six-member rings with high-efficiency deep-red *** repeating units of the red light emitting homopolymers are double B←N bridged bipyridine(BNBP)with the boron atoms functionalized with diphenyl,borafluorene,and 2,7-di-tert-butyl-borafluorene groups,*** relationship between the chemical structures and the opto-electronic properties of the monomers and the homopolymers has been systematically *** three polymers emit pure red light(λ_(max)=656 nm)or deep red light(λ_(max)=693 nm)with fluorescence quantum efficiency in solution higher than 60%.The polymers can be used as the emitters in solution-processed organic light-emitting diodes with red emission and decent device *** work indicates a new strategy to design highly efficient light emitting conjugated polymers.

A strategy for strengthening chaotic mixing of dual shaft eccentric mixers by changing non-Newtonian fluids kinetic energy distribution

Efficiently modulating the velocity distribution and flow pattern of non-Newtonian fluids is a critical challenge in the context of dual shaft eccentric mixers for process intensification,posing a significant barrier for the existing ***,this work reports a convenient strategy that changes the kinetic energy to controllably regulate the flow patterns from radial flow to axial *** showed that the desired velocity distribution and flow patterns could be effectively obtained by varying the number and structure of baffles to change kinetic energy,and a more uniform velocity distribution,which could not be reached normally in standard baffle dual shaft mixers,was easily ***,a comparative analysis of velocity and shear rate distributions is employed to elucidate the mechanism behind the generation of flow patterns in various dual-shaft eccentric ***,there is little difference in the power number of the laminar flow at the same Reynolds number,meaning that the baffle type has no effect on the power consumption,while the power number of both unbaffle and U-shaped baffle mixing systems decreases compared with the standard baffle mixing system in the transition ***,at the same rotational condition,the dimensionless mixing time of the U-shaped baffle mixing system is 15.3%and 7.9%shorter than that of the standard baffle and the unbaffle mixing system,respectively,which shows the advantage of the U-shaped baffle in stirring rate.

Temperature-dependent solubility of Rebaudioside A in methanol/ethanol and ethyl acetate mixtures:Experimental measurements and thermodynamic modeling

The equilibrium solubility of Rebaudioside A(Reb A)FormⅡin binary mixtures of methanol/ethanol and ethyl acetate was quantitatively determined within the temperature range of 283.15—328.15 K at ambient *** experimental findings indicate a positive correlation between the solubility of Reb A(FormⅡ)and both the temperature and the methanol/ethanol content in the solvent *** describe the solubility data,six distinct models were employed:the modified Apelblat equation,theλh model,the combined nearly ideal binary solvent/Redlich—Kister(CNIBS/R—K)model,the van't HoffJouyban-Acree(VJA)model,the Apelblat-Jouyban-Acree(AJA)model,and the non-random two-liquid(NRTL)*** combined nearly ideal binary solvent/Redlich—Kister model exhibited the most precise fit for solubility in methanol+ethyl acetate mixtures,reflected by an average relative deviation(ARD)of 0.0011 and a root mean square deviation(RMSD)of 12×10^(-7).Conversely,for ethanol+ethyl acetate mixtures,the modified Apelblat equation provided a superior correlation(ARD=0.0014,RMSD=4×10^(-7)).Furthermore,thermodynamic parameters associated with the dissolution of Reb A(FormⅡ),including enthalpy,entropy,and the Gibbs energy change,were inferred from the *** findings underscore that the dissolution process is predominantly endothermic across the solvent systems ***,the entropy changes appear to have a significant influence on the Gibbs free energy associated with the dissolution of Reb A(FormⅡ),suggesting that entropic factors may play a pivotal role in the studied systems.

Effects of rare earth elements on inclusions, microstructure and impact toughness of spring steel

Spring steel is an indispensable basic part manufacturing material in mechanical equipment,which is widely used in transportation tools such as automobiles,railways,construction machinery and other *** effects of rare earth(RE)on inclusions,microstructure,carbides and impact toughness of 50CrV spring steel were studied by means of optical microscope,scanning electron microscope,transmission electron microscope and impact *** results show that the addition of rare earth can modify the main MnS and Al_(2)O_(3) inclusions in steel to form spherical or near-spherical rare earth inclusions,and the size of inclusions is significantly *** the quenched structure,the size of martensite slab becomes smaller and the structure is *** tempering,the carbide changes from sheet to ellipse,which makes it easier for spring steel to form stress concentration cracks under *** becomes finer and more dispersed,which leads to better pinning of grain boundaries and smaller grain *** impact toughness of 50CrV-RE spring steel increased from 21 to 41 J by 95%due to the improvement of inclusions,microstructure and carbides by rare *** is possible to improve the strength and toughness of spring steel for the improvement of railway running speed and the development of vehicle lightweight in China.
