Layout design of thin-walled structures with lattices and stiffeners using multi-material topology optimization

In this paper,the thin-walled structures with lattices and stiffeners manufactured by additive manufacturing are investigated.A design method based on the multi-material topology optimization is proposed for the simultaneous layout optimization of the lattices and stiffeners in thin-walled structures.First,the representative lattice units of the selected lattices are equivalent to the virtual homogeneous materials whose effective elastic matrixes are achieved by the energy-based homogenization method.Meanwhile,the stiffeners are modelled using the solid material.Subsequently,the multi-material topology optimization formulation is established for both the virtual homogeneous materials and solid material to minimize the structural compliance under mass constraint.Thus,the optimal layout of both the lattices and stiffeners could be simultaneously attained by the optimization procedure.Two applications,the aircraft panel structure and the equipment mounting plate,are dealt with to demonstrate the detailed design procedure and reveal the effect of the proposed method.According to numerical comparisons and experimental results,the thin-walled structures with lattices and stiffeners have significant advantages over the traditional stiffened thin-walled structures and lattice sandwich structures in terms of static,dynamic and anti-instability performance.

Effect of decoction of Fuzheng Jiedu Xiaoji formula(扶正解毒消积方) plus chemoembolization on primary liver cancer in patients

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of the decoction of Fuzheng Jiedu Xiaoji formula(扶正解毒消积方,FJXF)plus chemoembolization(TACE)on primary liver cancer(PLC)in patients,and study the underlying mechanism.METHODS:Patients with PLC who met the inclusion criteria were randomized into case group and control group.The case group was treated with FJXF combined with TACE.The control group was treated with TACE alone.The short-term clinical effect was evaluated;liver biochemistry,liver function index and multidrug resistance-associated indicators were detected.RESULTS:FJXF combined with TACE in the case group significantly increased the disease control rate than TACE alone in the control group(83.3%vs 61.1%).There was a reduction in the serum alpha-fetoprotein at 8 weeks after treatment in each group,while no difference between the two groups.The same trend can be observed for transaminase and direct bilirubin in both groups.In the case group,it showed a significant increase for albumin at 8 weeks after treatment,while no change in the control group.Multidrug resistanceassociated indicators for multidrug resistance protein 1 and p-glycoprotein were upregulated in the case group but remained stable in the control group.CONCLUSIONS:FJXF combined TACE had a better short-term effect than TACE alone in patients with PLC.The potential mechanism was probably associated with alleviated multidrug resistance induced by FJXF.Additionally,FJXF didn’t increase the risk of liver damage in the combined therapy.

Constrained future brightening of solar radiation and its implication for China's solar power

As Earth’s primary energy source,surface downward solar radiation(Rs) determines the solar power potential and usage for climate change mitigation.Future projections of Rsbased on climate models have large uncertainties that interfere with the efficient deployment of solar energy to achieve China’ s carbon-neutrality goal.Here we assess 24 models in the latest Coupled Model Inter comparison Project Phase 6 with historical observations in China and find systematic biases in simulating historical Rsvalues likely due to model biases in cloud cover and clear-sky radiation,resulting in largely uncertain projections for future changes in Based on emergent constraints,we obtain credible Rswith narrowed uncertainties by ～56% in the mid-twenty-first century and show that the mean Rschange during 2050-2069 relative to 1995-2014 is 30% more brightening than the raw projections.Particularly in North China and Southeast China with higher power demand,the constrained projections present more significant brightening,highlighting the importance of considering the spatial changes in future Rswhen locating new solar energy infrastructures.

Vertical multiple-layer structure of temperature and turbulent diffusivity in the South China Sea

We report field measurements of vertical profiles of the turbulent diffusivity and temperature at different stations in the South China Sea(SCS).Our study shows that the measured turbulent diffusivity follows a power-law distribution with a varying exponent in water layers.Similar multiple-layer scaling regimes were also observed from the temperature fluctuations.Combining turbulent diffusivity and temperature fluctuations,the vertical structure of temperature was revealed.Furthermore,we discussed the temperature profiles in each layer.A constant function of a dimensionless temperature profile was found in water layers that have identical turbulence conditions.Our results reveal the multiple-layer structure of temperature in the SCS.This study contributes to the understanding of the vertical structure of multiple layers in the SCS and provides clues for exploring the physical mechanism for maintaining the temperature structure.

Frequency steering of spaceborne clocks based on XPNAV-1 observations

Due to high stable rotations, timing of pulsars provides a natural tool to correct the frequency deviation of spaceborne atomic clocks. Based on processing the observational data about a year of Crab pulsar given by XPNAV-1 satellite, we study the possibility of correcting the frequency deviation of spaceborne atomic clocks using pulsar timing. According to the observational data in X-ray band and the timing model parameters from radio observations, the pre-fit timing residuals with a level of 67.66 μs are obtained. By fitting the slope of the timing residuals affected by the faked frequency-biased reference clock, we estimated successfully the relative frequency deviation of the reference clock. For a satellite clock with frequency deviation of the order about 10^(-12), a calibration accuracy with relative error of about 2% can be obtained from the Crab pulsar’s data for one year.The stability of the time scale based on Crab pulsar is about 10^(-12) for an interval of one year.

Purification and immunoglobulin E epitopes identification of low molecular weight glutenin:an allergen in Chinese wheat

As one of the most important cereals,wheat(Triticum aestivum)has high nutritional value and is widely cultivated in China.However,wheat can cause severe allergic reactions,and a growing number of people are developing allergies to Chinese wheat.Low molecular weight glutenin(LMW-GS),an important allergen in susceptible populations,is responsible for celiac disease and wheat contacts dermatitis.In this study,LMW-GS was highly purified from Chinese wheat(Xiaoyan 6)and further identified and characterized.In addition,8 peptides were predicted efficiently by 5 immunological tools,among which 5 peptides showed significant immunoglobulin E binding abilities.Two specific epitopes were found to be in the non-conserved region of the amino acid sequence of LMW-GS,which was speculated to be the specific epitope of Chinese wheat.This systematic research of LMW-GS may provide new insights into the prevention of wheat allergy and development of hypoallergenic wheat products.

Volatile organic compounds(VOCs)are important precursors of secondary organic compounds and ozone,which raise major environmental concerns.To investigate the VOC emission characteristics,measurements of VOCs based on proton transfer reaction-mass spectrometry during 2017 were conducted in a coastal industrial area in Ningbo,Zhejiang Province,China.Based on seasonal variation in species concentration,the positive matrix factorization(PMF)receptor model was applied to apportion the sources of VOCs in each season.The PMF results revealed that unknown acetonitrile source,paint solvent,electronics industry,biomass burning,secondary formation and biogenic emission were mainly attributed to VOC pollution.Biomass burning and secondary formation were the major sources of VOCs and contributed more than 70%of VOC emissions in spring and autumn.Industry-related sources contributed 8.65%–31.2%of the VOCs throughout the year.The unknown acetonitrile source occurred in winter and spring,and contributed 7.6%–43.73%of the VOC emissions in the two seasons.Conditional probability function(CPF)analysis illustrated that the industry sources came from local emission,while biomass burning and biogenic emission mainly came from the northwest direction.The potential source contribution function(PSCF)model showed that secondary formation-related source was mainly from Jiangsu Province,northeastern China and the surrounding ocean.The potential source areas of unknown acetonitrile source were northern Zhejiang Province,southern Jiangsu Province and the northeastern coastal marine environments.

Practicing the concept of “structuring” processing in the manufacture of polymer films

Polymer processing is a technology used to transfer raw materials into products with different shapes and functionalities and is a key step for polymer application.After years of development,the polymer processing task has changed from traditional processing,which mainly addresses the specific shapes of articles and focuses on the effect of processing on the structures and properties of polymers,to modern processing,which directly transforms a“designed structure”into commercial products via processing.It is the so-called“structuring”processing.Owing to the unique long-chain nature and slow topological relaxation,polymers are always driven and frozen into different nonequilibrium conformations,providing an effective way to design a given polymer material with desired structure and tunable performances via processing.Among the endless number of processing techniques,film casting is a prototypical pathway involving high supercooling or/and a strong flow field,based on which diverse thin polymer films have been successfully developed.In this review,taking isotactic polypropylene(i PP)film as an example,we highlight the strategy of“structuring”processing,in which we transform various crystalline structures of i PP into diverse commercial film products.

Reconstruction Residuals Based Long-term Voltage Stability Assessment Using Autoencoders

Real-time voltage stability assessment(VSA)has long been an extensively research topic.In recent years,rapidly mounting deep learning methods have pushed online VSA to a new height that large amounts of learning algorithms are applied for VSA from the perspective of measurement data.Deep learning methods generally require a large dataset which contains measurements in both secure and insecure states,or even unstable state.However,in practice,the data of insecure or unstable state is very rare,as the power system should be guaranteed to operate far away from voltage collapse.Under this circumstance,this paper proposes an autoencoder based method which merely needs data of secure state to evaluate voltage stability of a power system.The principle of this method is that an autoencoder purely trained by secure data is expected to only create precise reconstruction for secure data,while it fails to rebuild data of insecure states.Thus,the residual of reconstruction is effective in indicating VSA.Besides,to develop a more accurate and robust algorithm,long short-term memory(LSTM)networks combined with fully-connected(FC)layers are used to build the autoencoder,and a moving strategy is introduced to bias the features of testing data toward the secure feature domain.Numerous experiments and comparison with traditional machine learning algorithms demonstrate the effectiveness and high accuracy of the proposed method.

Lifespan of Solutions to MHD Boundary Layer Equations with Analytic Perturbation of General Shear Flow

In this paper, we consider the lifespan of solution to the MHD boundary layer system as an analytic perturbation of general shear flow. By using the cancellation mechanism in the system observed in [12], the lifespan of solution is shown to have a lower bound in the order of ε^(-2-) if the strength of the perturbation is of the order of ε. Since there is no restriction on the strength of the shear flow and the lifespan estimate is larger than the one obtained for the classical Prandtl system in this setting, it reveals the stabilizing effect of the magnetic field on the electrically conducting fluid near the boundary.
