Risk of asthma in preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia: a systematic review and meta‑analysis

Background This study aimed to systematically review and meta-analyze the available literature on the association between preterm infant bronchopulmonary dysplasia(BPD)and pre-adulthood asthma.Methods Studies examining the association between BPD and asthma in children and adolescents were systematically reviewed,and a meta-analysis was conducted.We searched Scopus,Embase,Web of Science,PubMed,and Cochrane Library from the database inception to March 26,2022.The pooled odds ratio(OR)estimate was used in our meta-analysis to calculate the correlation between BPD and the probability of developing asthma before adulthood.Stata 12.0 was used to conduct the statistical analysis.Results The correlation between asthma and BPD in preterm newborns was examined in nine studies.We used a random effect model to pool the OR estimate.Our results indicated a marked increase in the risk of subsequent asthma in preterm infants with BPD[OR=1.73,95% confidence interval(CI)=1.43-2.09].Moreover,there was no obvious heterogeneity across the studies(P=0.617,I^(2)=0%).The pooled OR remained stable and ranged from 1.65(95%CI=1.35-2.01)to 1.78(95%CI=1.43-2.21).Regarding publication bias,the funnel plot for asthma risk did not reveal any noticeable asymmetry.We further performed Begg’s and Egger’s tests to quantitatively evaluate publication bias.There was no evidence of a publication bias for asthma risk(P>|Z|=0.602 for Begg’s test,and P>|t|=0.991 for Egger’s test).Conclusions Our findings indicate that preterm infants with BPD have a much higher risk of developing asthma in the future(OR=1.73,95%CI=1.43-2.09).Preterm infants with BPD may benefit from long-term follow-up.

Influence of resin flow on shrinkage of additive manufacturing coated sand molds

Coated sands are used extensively for additive manufacturing sand molds in the metal casting process, and the packing structure changes caused by the resin flow promote the shrinkage and deformation of the part. During the coated sand heating, the resin on the surface flowing to the contact points of the particles forms the resin neck and causes particles to pack close to each other. In this work, the diameters of the coated ceramsite sand before and after heating were measured based on in-situ experimental observations with image measuring apparatus and blue laser, to obtain the relationship between resin coating thickness and the particle diameter. The particle packing model was established to describe the particles' achievement of a stable state one by one. A re-packing simulation was then performed after reducing the particle diameter according to the resin coating thickness, to obtain the shrinkage ratios at different particle size distributions. It was found that the resin coating thickness increased from 0.8 to 2.3 μm as the particle diameter increased from 107 to 500 μm, for the coated ceramsite sand with the resin content of 2 wt.%; the shrinkage ratio decreased first and then increased as the particle diameter increased. The experimental minimum shrinkage ratio was 3.28%, and the corresponding particle diameter was 300-375 μm, while the minimum shrinkage ratio obtained by simulation was 3.43%, and the corresponding particle diameter was 214-300 μm. After mixing the five groups proportionally, the shrinkage ratios of the simulation and experiment dropped to 2.81% and 3.04%, respectively, indicating the best results.

An Energy-based Nonlinear Coupling Control for Offshore Ship-mounted Cranes

This paper proposes a novel nonlinear energy-based coupling control for an underactuated offshore ship-mounted crane,which guarantees both precise trolley positioning and payload swing suppressing performances under external sea wave disturbance. In addition to having such typical nonlinear underactuated property, as it is well known, an offshore ship-mounted crane also suffers from much unexpected persistent disturbances induced by sea waves or currents, which, essentially different from an overhead crane fixed on land, cause much difficulty in modeling and controller design. Inspired by the desire to achieve appropriate control performance against those challenging factors, in this paper, through carefully analyzing the inherent mechanism of the nonlinear dynamics, we first construct a new composite signal to enhance the coupling behavior of the trolley motion as well as the payload swing in the presence of ship′s roll motion disturbance. Based on which, an energy-based coupling control law is presented to achieve asymptotic stability of the crane control system′s equilibrium point. Without any linearization of the complex nonlinear dynamics, unlike traditional feedback controllers, the proposed control law takes a much simpler structure independent of the system parameters. To support the theoretical derivations and to further verify the actual control performance, Lyapunov-based mathematical analysis as well as numerical simulation/experimental results are carried out, which clarify the feasibility and superior performance of the proposed method over complicated disturbances.

Microporous metal-organic framework materials for efficient capture and separation of greenhouse gases

The release of anthropogenic greenhouse gases into the atmosphere poses serious risks to the environment and human health,and is a global threat of growing concern.In order to ameliorate the greenhouse gas emission problems,the efficient capture and separation of these greenhouse gases are greatly meaningful.Metal-organic framework(MOF)materials,a relatively new kind of organic-inorganic hybrid porous materials with unique framework features,tunable pore environment and high surface areas,have been widely studied as regards their applicability to this implementation.And the well-defined structures of MOF materials greatly promote the understanding of structure-property relationships.In this review,we intend to provide a profound account of significant progress in the field of capture and separation of greenhouse gases using MOFs as adsorbents,including carbon dioxide,methane,nitrous oxide and fluorocompounds(such as perfluorocarbons,sulfur hexafluoride,hydrochlorocarbons,and hydrofluocarbons).The strategies used to realize the efficient capture and separation of greenhouse gases have been summarized,and the relationships between the frameworks,their capture and separation performances and mechanisms are discussed.Furthermore,the existing challenges and perspectives with regard to the development of MOF materials for the capture and separation of greenhouse gases and industrial practical application are outlined to further promote this very significant and active emerging topic.

Automated design of freeform imaging systems

The automated design of imaging systems involving no or minimal human effort has always been the expectation of scientists,researchers and optical engineers.In addition,it is challenging to choose an appropriate starting point for an optical system design.In this paper,we present a novel design framework based on a point-by-point design process that can automatically obtain high-performance freeform systems.This framework only requires a combination of planes as the input based on the configuration requirements or the prior knowledge of designers.This point-by-point design framework is different from the decadeslong tradition of optimizing surface coefficients.Compared with the traditional design method,whereby the selection of the starting point and the optimization process are independent of each other and require extensive amount of human effort,there are no obvious differences between these two processes in our design framework,and the entire design process is mostly automated.This automated design process significantly reduces the amount of human effort required and does not rely on advanced design skills and experience.To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed design framework,we successfully designed two highperformance systems as examples.This point-by-point design framework opens up new possibilities for automated optical design and can be used to develop automated optical design in the areas of remote sensing,telescopy,microscopy,spectroscopy,virtual reality and augmented reality.

Study on the prediction and inverse prediction of detonation properties based on deep learning

The accurate and efficient prediction of explosive detonation properties has important engineering significance for weapon design.Traditional methods for predicting detonation performance include empirical formulas,equations of state,and quantum chemical calculation methods.In recent years,with the development of computer performance and deep learning methods,researchers have begun to apply deep learning methods to the prediction of explosive detonation performance.The deep learning method has the advantage of simple and rapid prediction of explosive detonation properties.However,some problems remain in the study of detonation properties based on deep learning.For example,there are few studies on the prediction of mixed explosives,on the prediction of the parameters of the equation of state of explosives,and on the application of explosive properties to predict the formulation of explosives.Based on an artificial neural network model and a one-dimensional convolutional neural network model,three improved deep learning models were established in this work with the aim of solving these problems.The training data for these models,called the detonation parameters prediction model,JWL equation of state(EOS)prediction model,and inverse prediction model,was obtained through the KHT thermochemical code.After training,the model was tested for overfitting using the validation-set test.Through the model-accuracy test,the prediction accuracy of the model for real explosive formulations was tested by comparing the predicted value with the reference value.The results show that the model errors were within 10%and 3%for the prediction of detonation pressure and detonation velocity,respectively.The accuracy refers to the prediction of tested explosive formulations which consist of TNT,RDX and HMX.For the prediction of the equation of state for explosives,the correlation coefficient between the prediction and the reference curves was above 0.99.For the prediction of the inverse prediction model,the prediction error of the explosiv

The effectiveness of deep learning networks in detecting small objects is limited,thereby posing challenges in addressing practical object detection tasks.In this research,we propose a small object detection model that operates at multiple scales.The model incorporates a multi-level bidirectional pyramid structure,which integrates deep and shallow networks to simultaneously preserve intricate local details and augment global features.Moreover,a dedicated multi-scale detection head is integrated into the model,specifically designed to capture crucial information pertaining to small objects.Through comprehensive experimentation,we have achieved promising results,wherein our proposed model exhibits a mean average precision(mAP)that surpasses that of the well-established you only look once version 7(YOLOv7)model by 1.1%.These findings validate the improved performance of our model in both conventional and small object detection scenarios.

Highly efficient photocatalytic dehydrogenative coupling of amines with supported platinum catalyst under the oxidant-free conditions

A highly efficient photocatalytic dehydrogenative coupling(PDC)of amines to prepare value-added imines has been developed under the mild conditions.A complete conversion of benzylamine with a 99%selectivity of Nbenzylidenebenzylamine could be obtained using the 2%Pt@g-C_(3)N_(4)as photocatalyst in the absence of hydrogen acceptor at room temperature.Moreover,the relationship between the physical properties of different photocatalysts and their activities has been discussed according to the characterization results of the XRD,BET,SEM,TEM,and XPS techniques.Next,the PDC of different amines have been further investigated,where ca.70.2%-99.0%yields of corresponding imines were attained.Finally,based on the experimental results and heterogeneous catalytic principle,a possible reaction mechanism for the PDC of benzylamine is proposed.

Efficacy of Sitagliptin on Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in High-fat-diet-fed Diabetic Mice

Objective Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is a common cause of clinical liver dysfunction and an important prepathological change of liver cirrhosis.Central obesity,type 2 diabetes mellitus,dyslipidemia,and metabolic syndrome are the major risk factors for NAFLD.Sitagliptin(Sig)is a novel hypoglycemic agent that improves blood glucose levels by increasing the level of active incretin.Sig has been shown to prevent the development of fatty livers in mice on a fructose-rich diet.The purpose of this study was to observe the efficacy of Sig on NAFLD in type 2 diabetic mice.Methods The diet-induced obesity mouse model was established,and the diabetic mice were screened by an intraperitoneal glucose tolerance trial.The mice were randomly divided into four groups for 8 weeks of intervention:high-fat diet(HFD)group,Sig group,metformin(Met)group,and Sig+Met group.After the intervention,the liver function indexes as well as the blood glucose and blood lipid levels of the mice were measured.In addition,the wet weight of the liver was measured;the pathological sections of the liver tissues were stained to observe the hepatocyte fatty degeneration,inflammation,necrosis,and fibrosis;and the hepatic histological injury was recorded as the NAFLD activity score(NAS).Results Compared with the normal control group,the body weight,liver weight,blood glucose level,insulin resistance(IR),blood lipid level,and transaminase level of the mice in the HFD group were significantly increased,showing typical metabolic syndrome.After treatment with Sig and/or Met,the mice gained less weight,had lower levels of blood glucose,triglyceride(TG),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),and transaminase,and had improved IR compared with the HFD group.The liver pathological NASs in the Sig group(P=0.01),Met group(P=0.028),and Sig+Met group(P<0.001)were lower than those in the HFD group(P<0.05),suggesting that the use of the two drugs alone or in combination can improve the state of liver inflammation.In terms of fibrosis,there was no fibrosis

Neonatal hyperinsulinism with an ABCC8 mutation:A case report

BACKGROUND Neonatal hyperinsulinism can result from perinatal stress,genetic disorders,or syndromes,which can lead to persistent or intractable hypoglycemia in newborns.Mutations in the ABCC8 gene result in abnormal functioning of potassium channel proteins in pancreaticβ-cells,leading to an overproduction of insulin and congenital hyperinsulinemia.CASE SUMMARY We report a case of a high-birth-weight infant with postnatal hypoglycemia and hyperinsulinemia,whose mother had pregestational diabetes mellitus with poor glycemic control and whose sister had a similar history at birth.Whole-exome sequencing revealed a new mutation in the ABCC8 gene in exon 8(c.1257T>G),which also occurred in his sister and mother;thus,the patient was diagnosed with neonatal hyperinsulinism with an ABCC8 mutation.With oral diazoxide treatment,the child’s blood glucose returned to normal,and the pediatrician gradually discontinued treatment because of the child’s good growth and development.CONCLUSION We report a new mutation locus in the ABCC8 gene.This mutation locus warrants attention for genetic disorders and long-term prognoses of hypoglycemic children.
