Cytochrome P450 endoplasmic reticulumassociated degradation(ERAD): therapeutic and pathophysiological implications

The hepatic endoplasmic reticulum(ER)-anchored cytochromes P450(P450s)are mixedfunction oxidases engaged in the biotransformation of physiologically relevant endobiotics as well as of myriad xenobiotics of therapeutic and environmental relevance.P450 ER-content and hence function is regulated by their coordinated hemoprotein syntheses and proteolytic *** P450 proteolytic turnover occurs through a process known as ER-associated degradation(ERAD)that involves ubiquitindependent proteasomal degradation(UPD)and/or autophagic-lysosomal degradation(ALD).Herein,on the basis of available literature reports and our own recent findings of in vitro as well as in vivo experimental studies,we discuss the therapeutic and pathophysiological implications of altered P450 ERAD and its plausible clinical *** specifically(i)describe the P450 ERAD-machinery and how it may be repurposed for the generation of antigenic P450 peptides involved in P450 autoantibodypathogenesis in drug-induced acute hypersensitivity reactions and liver injury,or viral hepatitis;(ⅱ)discuss the relevance of accelerated or disrupted P450-ERAD to the pharmacological and/or toxicological effects of clinically relevant P450 drug substrates;and(ⅲ)detail the pathophysiological consequences of disrupted P450 ERAD,contributing to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)/non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)under certain synergistic cellular conditions.

Characteristics of damaged layer in micro-machining of copper material

The study on damaged layer is necessary for improving the machinability in micro-machining because the damaged layer affects the micro mold life and micro machine parts. This study examined the ultra-precision micro-machining characteristics, such as cutting speed, feed rate and cutting depth, of a micro-damaged layer produced by an ultra-high speed air turbine spindle. The micro cutting force, surface roughness and plastic deformation layer were investigated according to the machining conditions. The damaged layer was measured using optical microscope on samples prepared through metallographic techniques. The scale of the damaged layer depends on the cutting process parameters, particularly, the feed per tooth and axial depth of the cut. According to the experimental results, the depth of the damaged layer is increased by increasing the feed per tooth and cutting depth, also the damaged layer occurs less in down-milling compared with up-milling during the micro-machining operation.

Ion shielding functional separator using halloysite containing a negative functional moiety for stability improvement of Li–S batteries

Lithium–sulfur batteries are one of the attractive next-generation energy storage systems owing to theienvironmental friendliness,low cost,and high specific energy ***,the low electrical conductivity of sulfur,shuttling of soluble intermediate polysulfides between electrodes,and low capacitretention have hampered their commercial *** address these issues,we use a halloysitemodulated(H-M)separator in a lithium–sulfur battery to mitigate the shuttling *** H-M separator acts as a mutual Coulombic repulsion in lithium-sulfur batteries,thereby selectively permitting Lions and efficiently suppressing the transfer of undesired lithium polysulfides to the Li anode sideMoreover,the use of halloysite switches the surface of the separator from hydrophobic to hydrophilicconsequently improving the electrolyte wettability and adhesion between the separator and cathodeWhen sulfur-multi-walled carbon nanotube(S-MWCNT)composites are used as cathode active materialsa lithium–sulfur battery with an H-M separator exhibits first discharge and charge capacities of 1587 an1527 m Ah g-1,***,there is a consistent capacity retention up to 100 cyclesAccordingly,our approach demonstrates an economical and easily accessible strategy for commercialization of lithium–sulfur batteries.

Microsphere-assisted,nanospot,non-destructive metrology for semiconductor devices

As smaller structures are being increasingly adopted in the semiconductor industry,the performance of memory and logic devices is being continuously improved with innovative 3D integration schemes as well as shrinking and stacking *** to the increasing complexity of the design architectures,optical metrology techniques including spectroscopic ellipsometry(SE)and reflectometry have been widely used for efficient process development and yield ramp-up due to the capability of 3D structure ***,there has been an increasing demand for a significant reduction in the physical spot diameter used in the SE technique;the spot diameter should be at least 10 times smaller than the cell dimension(~30×40μm2)of typical dynamic random-access memory to be able to measure in-cell critical dimension(CD)*** this end,this study demonstrates a novel spectrum measurement system that utilizes the microsphere-assisted super-resolution effect,achieving extremely small spot spectral metrology by reducing the spot diameter to~210 nm,while maintaining a sufficiently high signal-to-noise *** addition,a geometric model is introduced for the microsphere-based spectral metrology system that can calculate the virtual image plane magnification and depth of focus,providing the optimal distance between the objective lens,microsphere,and sample to achieve the best possible imaging *** proof of concept was fully verified through both simulations and experiments for various ***,owing to its ultra-small spot metrology capability,this technique has great potential for solving the current metrology challenge of monitoring in-cell CD variations in advanced logic and memory devices.

Controlled multilevel switching and artificial synapse characteristics in transparent HfAlO-alloy based memristor with embedded TaN nanoparticles

Atomic layer deposition technique has been used to prepare tantalum nitride nanoparticles(TaN-NPs)and sandwiched between Al-doped HfO;layers to achieve ITO/HfAlO/TaN-NP/HfAlO/ITO RRAM *** electron microscopy along with energy dispersive spectroscopy confirms the presence of TaN-NPs.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy suggests that part of Ta N converted to tantalum oxynitride(TaO_(x)N_(y))which plays an important role in stable cycle-to-cycle resistive *** trapping and oxygen vacancy creation were found to be modified after the inclusion of Ta N-NPs inside RRAM ***,HfAlO/TaO_(x)N_(y)interface due to the presence TaN-NPs improves the device-to-device switching reliability by reducing the probability of random rupture/formation of conductive filaments(CFs).DC endurance of more than 10^(3)cycles and memory data retention up to 10^(4)s was achieved with an insignificant variation of different resistance *** conductance was attained by controlling RESET voltage with stable data retention in multiple *** volatile threshold switching was monitored after controlling the CF forming at 200 nA current compliance with high selectivity of~10^(3).Synaptic learning behavior has been demonstrated by spike-rate-dependent plasticity(SRDP).Reliable potentiation and depression processes were observed after the application of suitable negative and positive pulses which shows the capability of the TaN–NPs based RRAM device for transparent synaptic devices.

Permo-Triassic high-pressure metamorphism in the central western Korean Peninsula, and its link to Paleo-Tethyan Ocean closure: Key issues revisited

Permo-Triassic high-pressure(HP) mafic granulites, together with the Bibong retrogressed eclogite,preserved along the central western Korean Peninsula provide important insights into the Late Permian to Triassic collisional orogeny in northeast Asia. The metamorphic pressureetemperatureetime(P-T-t)paths of these rocks, however, remain poorly constrained and even overestimated, owing to outdated geothermobarometers and inaccurate isopleth techniques. Here we evaluate the metamorphic Pe T conditions of Triassic HP mafic granulites including those in Baekdong, Sinri and Daepan and the Bibong Triassic retrogressed eclogite in the Hongseong area, and the Permo-Triassic Samgot mafic granulite in the Imjingang Belt of the central western Korean Peninsula through the application of modern phase equilibria techniques. The Baekdong and Samgot mafic granulites and the Bibong retrogressed eclogite yield a range of 12.0 -16.0 kbar and 800 -900℃, representing HP granulite facies conditions. The Sinri and Daepan granulites from the Hongseong area show relatively lower grade metamorphic conditions between HP granulite and normal granulite facies, and are characterized by sub-isothermal decompression during exhumation. The similarities in the metamorphic ages and the post-collisional igneous activity from the central western Korean Peninsula indicate that the Triassic ages represent the retrograde stage of the metamorphic Pe T paths. In contrast, the Late Permian metamorphic ages, which are older than protolith ages of the post-collisional igneous rocks, correspond to the possible prograde stage of metamorphism. The P-T-t paths presented in this paper, together with the metamorphic ages and post-orogenic igneous events reported from these areas suggest trace of the subduction, accretion and exhumation history, and indicate a tectonic linkage among the northeast Asian continents during the Paleo-Tethyan Ocean closure.

Acupuncture Points for Treating Parkinson's Disease Based on Animal Studies

Parkinson＇s disease （PD） is a well-known neurodegenerative disease caused by dopaminergic cell death in the nigrostriatal pathway. Recent studies have shown that acupuncture can be a potential therapy for the treatment of PD, but it is not clear which acupuncture points （acupoints） play major roles in reliving symptoms of PD. Yanglingquan （GB 34）, Zusanli （ST 36）, Fengfu （GV 16）, Taichong （LR 3）, Baihui （GV 20） and Dazhui （GV 14） acupoints have frequently been to investigate the effectiveness and action mechanism of acupuncture for treating PD, but it is not clear why they were selected. This review summarizes the current understanding of the acupoints for PD treatment based on Oriental medicine theories and on the accumulated findings from previous animal studies. The results of this study will be useful to development of a strategy for future research in this field.

Clustering-based label estimation for network anomaly detection

A substantial body of work has been done to identify network anomalies using supervised and unsupervised learning techniques with their unique strengths and *** this work,we propose a new approach that takes advantage of both worlds of unsupervised and supervised *** main objective of the proposed approach is to enable supervised anomaly detection without the provision of the associated labels by *** this end,we estimate the labels of each connection in the training phase using ***“estimated”labels are then utilized to establish a supervised learning model for the subsequent classification of connections in the testing *** set up a new property that defines anomalies in the context of network anomaly detection to improve the quality of estimated *** our extensive experiments with a public dataset(NSL-KDD),we will prove that the proposed method can achieve performance comparable to one with the “original”labels provided in the *** also introduce two heuristic functions that minimize the impact of the randomness of clustering to improve the overall quality of the estimated labels.

Boosting overall water splitting by incorporating sulfur into NiFe(oxy)hydroxide

Developing highly active and cost-effective electrocatalysts for enhancing the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)is a significant challenge for overall water ***-incorporated nickel iron(oxy)hydroxide(S-NiFeOOH)nanosheets were directly grown on commercial nickel foam using a galvanic corrosion method and a hydrothermal *** incorporation of sulfur into NiFeOOH enhanced the catalytic activity for the HER and OER in 1 M KOH *** enhanced catalytic activity is attributed to the change in the local structure and chemical states due to the incorporation of *** performance for overall water splitting was achieved with an alkaline water *** was realized by employing S-NiFeOOH as a bifunctional electrocatalyst,thereby outperforming a water electrolyzer that requires the usage of precious metal electrocatalysts(i.e.,Pt/C as the HER electrocatalyst and IrO_(2) as the OER electrocatalyst).Moreover,when driven by a commercial silicon solar cell,an alkaline water electrolyzer that uses S-NiFeOOH as a bifunctional electrocatalyst generated hydrogen under natural *** study shows that S-NiFeOOH is a promising candidate for a large-scale industrial implementation of hydrogen production for overall water splitting because of its low cost,high activity,and *** addition,the solar-driven water electrolyzer using S-NiFeOOH as a bifunctional electrocatalyst affords the opportunity for developing effective and feasible solar power systems in the future.

Formation of nanocrystalline microstructure in arc ion plated CrN films

Applying negative bias voltages caused significant microstructure changes in arc ion plated CrN films. Nanocrystalline microstructures were obtained by adjusting the negative bias voltage. Structural characterizations of the films were carried out using X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). The results indicated that increasing ion bombardment by applying negative bias voltages resulted in the formation of defects in the CrN films, inducing microstructure evolution from micro-columnar to nanocrystalline. The microhardness and residual stresses of the films were also affected. Based on the experimental results, the evolution mechanisms of the film microstructure and properties were discussed by considering ion bombardment effects.
