Elevation of the glycated albumin to glycated hemoglobin ratio during the progression of hepatitis C virus related liver fibrosis

AIM: To analyze the relationship between the glycated albumin (GA) to glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) ratio and the histological grading of liver ***: The study retrospectively included consecutive hepatitis C virus positive chronic liver disease patients (n = 142) who had undergone percutaneous liver biopsy between January 2008 and March 2010 at our institution. The ratios of GA/HbA1c were calculated in all patients to investigate the relationship with the degree of the liver fibrosis. The values of the aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index (APRI), an excellent marker for the evaluation of liver fibrosis, were also calculated. In addition, we combined the ratio of GA/HbA1c and the APRI in order to improve our ability to detect the presence of significant liver fibrosis. RESULTS: Sixty-one (43%) patients had either no fibrosis or minimal fibrosis (METAVIR score: F0-F1), while 25 (17%) had intermediate fibrosis (F2). Fifty-six (39%) patients had severe fibrosis (F3-F4) and 27 of them had cirrhosis (F4). The mean values of the GA/HbA1c increased with the progression of the fibrosis (F0-1: 2.83 ± 0.24, F2: 2.85 ± 0.24, F3: 2.92 ± 0.35, F4: 3.14 ± 0.54). AIM: To compare the nutritional status between alcoholic compensated cirrhotic patients and hepatitis C virus(HCV)-related cirrhotic patients with portal ***: A total of 21 patients with compensated cirrhosis(14 with HCV-related cirrhosis and seven with alcoholic cirrhosis) who had risky esophageal varices were investigated. In addition to physical variables, including the body mass index, triceps skinfold thickness, and arm-muscle circumference, the nutritional status was also assessed using the levels of pre-albumin(pre-ALB), retinol-binding protein(RBP) and non-protein respiratory quotient(NPRQ) measured with an indirect ***: A general assessment for the nutritional status with physical examinations did not show a significant difference between HCV-related cirrhosis and alcoholic cirrhosis. However, the levels of pre-ALB and RBP in alcoholic compensated cirrhotic patients were significantly higher than those in HCV-related compensated cirrhotic patients. In addition, the frequency of having a normal nutritional status(NPRQ ≥ 0.85 and ALB value > 3.5 g/d L) in alcoholic compensated cirrhotic patients was significantly higher than that in HCV-related compensated cirrhotic ***: According to our small scale study, alcoholic compensated cirrhotic patients can develop severe portal hypertension even with a relatively well-maintained liver function and nutritional status compared with HCV-related cirrhosis.

Magnesium-based biodegradable metals as cardiovascular stents have shown a lot of excellent performance, which have been used to treat coronary artery diseases. However, the excessive degradation rate, imperfect biocompatibility and delayed re-endothelialization still lead to a considerable challenge for its application. In this work, to overcome these shortcomings, a compound of catalyzing nitric oxide(NO) generation containing copper ions(Cu^(2+)) and hyaluronic acid(HA), an important component of the extracellular matrix, were covalently immobilized on a hydrofluoric acid(HF)-pretreated ZE21B alloy via amination layer for improving its corrosion resistance and endothelialization. Specifically,the Cu^(2+) chelated firmly with a cyclen 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-N’, N’’, N’’’, N-tetraacetic acid(DOTA) could form a stability of hybrid coating, avoiding the explosion of Cu^(2+). The chelated Cu^(2+) enabled the catalytic generation of NO and promoted the adhesion and proliferation of endothelial cells(ECs) in vascular micro-environment. In this case, the synergistic effect of NO-generation and endothelial glycocalyx molecules of HA lead to efficient ECs promotion and smooth muscle cells(SMCs) inhibition. Meanwhile, the blood compatibility also had achieved a marked improvement. Moreover, the standard electrochemical measurements indicated that the functionalized ZE21B alloy had better anti-corrosion ability. In a conclusion, the dual-functional coating displays a great potential in the field of biodegradable magnesium-based implantable cardiovascular stents.

Biliodigestive anastomosis between the extrahepatic bile duct and the intestine for bile duct disease is a gastrointestinal reconstruction that abolishes duodenal papilla function and frequently causes retrograde *** chronic inflammation can cause liver dysfunction,liver abscess,and even bile duct *** research has been conducted for over 100 years to directly repair bile duct defects with alternatives,no bile duct substitute(BDS)has been *** narrative review confirms our understanding of why bile duct alternatives have not been developed and explains the clinical applicability of BDSs in the near *** searched the PubMed electronic database to identify studies conducted to develop BDSs until December 2021 and identified studies in *** independent reviewers reviewed studies on large animals with 8 or more *** types of BDSs prevail:Autologous tissue,non-bioabsorbable material,bioabsorbable material,and others(decellularized tissue,3D-printed structures,etc.).In most studies,BDSs failed due to obstruction of the lumen or stenosis of the anastomosis with the native bile *** has not been developed primarily because control of bile duct wound healing and regeneration has not been elucidated.A BDS expected to be clinically applied in the near future incorporates a bioabsorbable material that allows for regeneration of the bile duct outside the BDS.

The Al-Mn-Sc-based alloys specific for additive manufacturing(AM)have been recently developed and can reach ultrahigh strength and adequate ***,these alloys commonly exhibit nonuniform plasticity during tensile deformation,which is a critical issue hindering their wider *** this work,the origin of this non-uniform plasticity of the alloys produced by laser powder bed fusion(LPBF)has been systematically investigated for the first *** results show that the loss of uniform plasticity in the alloy originates from microstructural regions containing equiaxed fine-grains(FGs)(~650nm in size)at the bottom of the melt *** micro-tensile tests,the strength of these FG regions can reach a peak of~630 *** this,an apparent yield drop occurs,followed by rapid strain *** FG behavior is associated with intermetallic particles along grain boundaries and a lack of uniform mobile dislocations during *** columnar coarse-grain(CG)regions in the remaining melt pools show uniform plasticity and moderate work ***,the quantitative calculations indicate that the solid solution strengthening in these two regions is ***,secondary Al_(3)Sc precipitates contribute to~260 MPa strength in the FG,compared to 310 MPa in the CG due to their different number *** addition,grain boundary strengthening can reach 230 MPa in the FG region;nearly double the CG region value.

Fundamental requirements for optical system design for volume recording system is identified. Anastigmatic objective lens design is required for conventional page-based system, whereas for multi-layer volume recording systems, an Aplanatic and zoom optical design is needed with an afocal sub-optical system including a high numerical aperture （NA） objective element. An NA 0.4 and four element design is feasible by only using off- the-shelf components. Recording depth ranges of 0.4 mm for wavelength 532 nm and 0.2 mm for 405 nm. The design demonstrates sufficiently small as-built wavefront error, less than 0.1 waves while implementing focusing and tracking capabilities to the design.

Taking Dongting Lake district as the studying area and utilizing multi-temporal MOS-lb/MESSR data as remote sensing info source, by the combination operation and ratio transform processing and the image, spectrum and histogram comparison of the MESSR image data of all bands for the flood season and dry season with the ER-DAS IMAGINE system, a classification model was established, which can be used to acquire the spatial distributing information of water bodies. Meanwhile a water depth index model was derived and built, and then a model for detecting the depth of water body based on the non-linear recursive analysis was presented. By the overlay analysis of the classification thematic images based on the model for extracting flood information, the flooding area and distributing information were acquired.
