Oxygen Potential Analysis to Evaluate Irradiation Behavior in MOX and MA-Bearing MOX Fuels

Oxygen potentials of oxide nuclear fuels are important thermodynamic data in development of nuclear fuel technologies. Minor actinide bearing MOX （mixed oxide） fuels have been developed as sodium cooled fast reactor fuels. Content of Am which is one of the minor actinide elements causes oxygen potentialto increase. The effects of the oxygen potential increase on the irradiation behavior were evaluated. Profiles of temperature and O/M （oxygen-to-metal） ratio in the pellets were evaluated to better understand the irradiation behavior. From these data, local oxygen potential in the radial direction of the pellets was calculated, and was compared with free energy of compounds composed of fission products. Based on this comparison, it was concluded that Cs2MoO4 was likely formed at pellet periphery of （U07Pu03）O1.98 and （U0.66Pu03Amoo16Npo.016）Ol.976 The extent of cladding tube inner surface oxidation was predicted by using the calculated oxygen potential. No significant difference between irradiation behaviors of （Uo.7Puo3）O2_x and （U0.66PUo 3Amo.016Npo.016）O2.x pellets was confirmed.

In this study,ZnO formation during the dissolution-passivation process of Zn anodes is observed via in situ Raman and optical *** Zn passivation during galvanostatic anodization merely follows the dissolution-precipitation model,whereas that of potentiodynamic polarization exhibits different behaviors in different potential ***,the Zn electrode is gradually covered by a ZnO precipitation film and then undergoes solid-state oxidation at~255 *** starting point of solid-state oxidation is well indicated by the abrupt current drop and yellow coloration of the electrode *** the pseudo passivation,an intense current oscillation is ***,blink-like color changes between yellow and dark blue are revealed for the first time,implying that the oscillation is caused by the dynamic adsorption and desorption of OH *** as-formed ZnOs then experience a dissolution-reformation evolution,during which the crystallinity of the primary ZnO film is improved but the solid-state-formed ZnO layer becomes rich in oxygen ***,oxide densification is realized,contributing to the Zn *** study provides new insights into the Zn dissolution-passivation behavior,which is critical for the future optimization of Zn batteries.

Cr-coated zirconium alloy was prepared by pulsed laser deposition(PLD)for the application of accident-tolerant fuel cladding in light water *** microstructural characteristics of the Cr coating and its evolution with temperature were investigated using grazing incidence X-ray diff raction and in situ heating transmission electron microscopy(TEM).Results show that the microstructure of the laser-deposited Cr coatings consists mainly of fine and non-specific shaped nano-crystals in the inner layer and columnar crystals in the outer *** recrystallization of the Cr-coating layer starts at 300–400℃ to release the high strain introduced by PLD,and the grain coalescence starts at temperatures>400°*** annealing,the(110)-texture gradually intensifi es because of its high reticular density and low close-packed ***,in situ heating TEM observation shows the presence of cavities on the Cr–Zr interface,which may result from the interdiff usion and/or the transformation from amorphous to crystalline.

Stevens–Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are life-threatening conditions characterized by extensive detachment of the epidermis and mucous membranes. These severe disorders carry a high mortality rate, and their pathogenesis remains largely unclear. Furthermore, optimal therapeutic strategies for SJS/TEN remain a subject of ongoing debate. Early diagnosis of SJS/TEN is challenging, and reliable biomarkers for diagnosis or severity prediction have not been firmly established. Certain drugs, such as carbamazepine and allopurinol, have shown a strong association with specific human leukocyte antigen (HLA) types. Recently, the potential benefits of HLA screening prior to administering these drugs to reduce the incidence of SJS/TEN have been explored. Epidermal cell death in SJS/TEN lesions is caused by extensive apoptosis, primarily through the Fas–Fas ligand (FasL) and perforin/granzyme pathways. Our findings suggest that necroptosis, a form of programmed necrosis, also contributes to epidermal cell death. Annexin A1, released from monocytes, interacts with the formyl peptide receptor 1 to induce necroptosis. Several biomarkers, such as CC chemokine ligand (CCL)-27, interleukin-15, galectin-7, receptor-interacting protein kinases 3 (RIP3), and lipocalin-2, have been identified for diagnostic and prognostic purposes in SJS/TEN. Supportive care is recommended for treating SJS/TEN, but the efficacy of various therapeutic options–including systemic corticosteroids, intravenous immunoglobulin, cyclosporine, and tumor necrosis factor-α antagonists–remains controversial. Recent studies have investigated the potential benefits of tumor necrosis factor-α antagonists. In this review, we discuss recent advances in the understanding and management of SJS/TEN.

This article presents an extensive examination and modeling of Capacitor Coupled Substations (CCS), noting some of their inherent constraints. The underlying implementation of a CCS is to supply electricity directly from high-voltage (HV) transmission lines to low-voltage (LV) consumers through coupling capacitors and is said to be cost-effective as compared to conventional distribution networks. However, the functionality of such substations is susceptible to various transient phenomena, including ferroresonance and overvoltage occurrences. To address these challenges, the study uses simulations to evaluate the effectiveness of conventional resistor-inductor-capacitor (RLC) filter in mitigating hazardous overvoltage resulting from transients. The proposed methodology entails using standard RLC filter to suppress transients and its associated overvoltage risks. Through a series of MATLAB/Simulink simulations, the research emphasizes the practical effectiveness of this technique. The study examines the impact of transients under varied operational scenarios, including no-load switching conditions, temporary short-circuits, and load on/off events. The primary aim of the article is to assess the viability of using an established technology to manage system instabilities upon the energization of a CCS under no-load circumstances or in case of a short-circuit fault occurring on the primary side of the CCS distribution transformer. The findings underscore the effectiveness of conventional RLC filters in suppressing transients induced by the CCS no-load switching.

Enhancement of Visual Attention by Color Revealed Using Electroencephalography

Attention constitutes a fundamental psychological feature guiding our mental effort toward specific objects, concurrent with processes such as memory, reasoning, and imagination. Visual attention, crucial for selecting surrounding information, often decreases in older adults and patients with cerebrovascular disorders. Effective methods to enhance attention are scarce. Here, we investigated whether color information influences visual attention and brain activity during task performance, utilizing EEG. We examined 13 healthy young adults (seven women and six men;mean age: 21.2 ± 0.58 years) using 19-electrode electroencephalograms to assess the impact of color information on visual attention. The Clinical Assessment for Attention cancellation test was conducted under the black, red, and blue color conditions. Wilcoxon’s signed-rank test was used to assess differences in task performance (task time and error) between conditions. Spearman’s rank correlation was utilized to examine the correlation in power levels between task performance and color conditions. Significant variations in total task errors were observed among color conditions. The black condition exhibited the highest error frequency (0.7 ± 0.9 times), followed by the red condition (0.5 ± 0.8 times), with the lowest error frequency occurring in the blue (0.2 ± 0.4 times) condition (black vs. red: P = 0.03;black vs. blue: P = 0.00;red vs. blue: P = 0.032). No time difference was observed. The black condition showed negative delta and high-gamma correlations in the central electrodes. The red condition revealed positive alpha and low-gamma correlations in the frontal and occipital areas. Although no correlations were observed in the blue condition, it enhanced attentional performance. Positive alpha and low-gamma waves might be crucial for spotting attentional errors in key areas.
