Advanced high strength steel,aluminum alloy and plastic materials are used in the right places for the purpose of reducing the weight of EV(electric vehicle)bodies and in-vehicle parts,and multi-material structures are advancing.Therefore,it is difficult to handle the welding and joining processes of automobile structures by the conventional arc welding and resistance spot welding,which have been applied to steel joining,and various joining processes are being applied depending on the material.Under above mentioned background,the authors have developed some unique joining processes for multi-materials that are used in the right place.This paper introduces the dissimilar metal joining between the galvanized steel and aluminum alloy by laser arc hybrid process,the metal/thermoplastic dissimilar material joining using laser process and the solid-state resistance spot joining process of advanced high strength steel for EV body structural parts.Moreover,the authors describe the high-speed plasma jet GTA(Gas Tungusten Arc)welding process of copper applied to electrical components such as motors.

Ordovician diorite-quartz diorite mylonite(Saganoseki quartz diorite) was discovered in Sambagawa metamorphic terrane at the northern margin of Saganoseki Peninsula,Kyushu Island,Japan.The LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb geochronology revealed that the intrusion age of Saganoseki quartz diorite was 473.3±3.6 Ma.These rocks show the volcanic arc affinity based on the trace element composition.On the basis of geochronological and geochemical results,Saganoseki quartz diorite is considered to be a member of the Early Paleozoic igneous rocks of the Kurosegawa tectonic zone.Saganoseki quartz diorite is located just south of the Median Tectonic Line(MTL)and is in close contact with the pelitic and psammitic schist without any brittle shear zone.U-Pb ages of detrital zircon grains from two psammitic schists show the estimated sedimentation age of early Late Cretaceous,indicate that these psammitic schists are the member of Sambagawa metamorphic rocks.Together with these results and the mode of occurrence in the field,we argue that the Early Paleozoic igneous rocks of the Kurosegawa tectonic zone existed as an upper structural unit of the Sambagawa terrane.This relationship is the key to reconstruct the Mesozoic tectonics of Japan as a part of East Asia,and its evolution through time.

Fabrication of luminescent patterns using aggregation-induced emission molecules by an electrolytic micelle disruption approach

Herein,we report an electrochemical strategy that could control the location of aggregation-induced emission(AIE)molecules on patterned electrodes in a precise and facile way,producing photoluminescent and electrochemiluminescent patterns with a variety of colors.A micelle composed of electroactive surfactants was broken during the electrooxidation process,in which AIE molecules inside these micelles were released on patterned electrodes.These patterned electrodes were pretreated by not only metal,but also multifarious conducting polymers(CPs).An in-depth investigation clarified a correlation between the variety of CPs used as electrodes and the oxidation rate of the electroactive surfactant due to different catalytic performances of CPs.Furthermore,combined with wireless and gradient features of bipolar electrochemistry,a gradient luminescent pattern was easily achieved.The current studies suggest more abundant luminescent patterns using AIE luminophores can be developed by such an electrochemical method,in both of graphical shapes and emitting colors.

Rapid expansion of cultivated bamboo negatively impacts on biodiversity and soil microbial community.As such,it is important to properly manage and use bamboo to prevent and control such issues.This study focuses on optimizing pyrolysis conditions to produce bamboo biochar for agricultural soil amendment,particularly soil potassium(K)and water holding capacity.Bamboo chips were pyrolyzed under nitrogen gas at 400,600,and 800℃ for 1 and 2 h of retention.A total of six biochar products were created:400-1(i.e.,400℃ in 1 h),400-2,600-1,600-2,800-1,and 800-2.The 600℃ bamboo biochar products were observed to have the greatest potential in increasing soil K and water holding capacity.The 600-1 product had the highest potassium content(4.87%),with a water holding capacity of 3.73 g g^(−1),while the 600-2 product had the second-highest potassium content(4.13%)and the highest water holding capacity(4.21 g g^(−1))and cation exchange capacity.The K release in 600℃ products was larger and slower than that of the 400℃ and 800℃ products,respectively.The results also indicated that the physicochemical characteristics of bamboo biochar,such as yield,pH,surface area,water holding capacity,and K content,were significantly impacted by temperature,retention time,or a combination of these parameters.The outcomes from this study are a valuable reference for bamboo biochar production targeting agricultural soil amendment,particularly when it is directed at increasing soil K and water holding capacity.

Prospective randomized controlled trial investigating the type of sutures used during hepatectomy

AIM: To determine whether absorbable sutures or non-absorbable sutures are better in preventing surgical site infection (SSI), in this paper we discuss the results of a randomized clinical trial which examined the type of sutures used during hepatectomy. METHODS: All hepatic resections performed from January 2007 to November 2008 at the Department of Surgery at Iizuka Hospital in Japan were included in this study. There were 125 patients randomly assigned to an absorbable sutures (Vicryl) group or non-absorbable sutures (Silk) group. RESULTS: SSI was observed in 13.6% (17/125) patients participating in this study, 11.3% in the Vicryl group and 15.8% in the Silk group. Incisional SSI including superficial and deep SSI, was observed in 8% of the Vicryl group and 9.5% of the Silk group. Organ/ space SSI was observed in 3.2% of the Vicryl group and 6.0% of the Silk group. There were no significant differences, but among the patients with SSI, the period for recovery was significantly shorter for the Vicryl group compared to the Silk group.CONCLUSION: The incidence of SSI in patients receiving absorbable sutures and silk sutures is not significantly different in this randomized controlled study; however, the period for recovery in patients with SSI was significantly shorter for absorbable sutures.

Diagnostic value of antigenemia assay for cytomegalovirus gastrointestinal disease in immunocompromised patients

AIM:To investigate the utility of the cytomegalovirus(CMV)antigenemia assay for the diagnosis of CMV gastrointestinal disease(GID). METHODS:One hundred and thirty immunocompromised patients were enrolled in this study.Patients with a history of anti-CMV treatment and who had not undergone examination using the antigenemia assay were excluded.CMV-GID was defined as the detection of large cells with intranuclear inclusions alone or associated with granular cytoplasmic inclusions by biopsy.Biopsy sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and immunohistochemically stained with anti-CMV.We evaluated the association between CMV-GID and patient characteristics(symptoms,underlying disease,medication,leukocyte counts,and antigenemia assay).All patients were checked with an human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)antibody test before endoscopic examination.White blood cell(WBC)counts were obtained from medical records within 1 wk of endoscopy.Leukopenia was defined as a total WBC count<5000 cells/mm 3 . For HIV patients,we also checked CD4+counts from medical records. RESULTS:A total of 99 patients were retrospectively selected for analysis.Of the immunocompromised patients,19 had malignant disease,18 had autoimmune disease,19 had disorders of biochemical homeostasis, three had undergone transplantation,and 45 had HIV infection.A total of 50 patients had received immunosuppressive therapy.No patients had inflammatory bowel disease.Fifty-five patients were diagnosed as having CMV-GID.Univariate analysis indicated an association between HIV infection,leukopenia,and positive antigenemia and CMV-GID(P<0.05).Multivariate analysis using logistic regression revealed that HIV infection and positive antigenemia were the only independent factors related to CMV-GID(P<0.01).The sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value,and negative predictive value of antigenemia for CMV-GID were 65.4%,93.6%, 91.9%,and 71.0%,respectively.In a subgroup analy-sis,patients with leukopenia displayed low sensitivity and high specificity.Minimal dif

Intramuscular injection of bone morphogenetic proteins(BMPs)has been shown to induce ectopic bone formation.A chondrogenic phase is typically observed in this process,which suggests that there may exist a chondrogenic subpopulation of cells residing in skeletal muscle.Two prospective cell populations were isolated from rat skeletal muscle:fascia-derived cells(FDCs),extracted from gluteus maximus muscle fascia(epimysium)and muscle-derived cells(MDCs)isolated from the muscle body.Both populations were investigated for their cell surface marker profiles(flowcytometry analysis),proliferation rates as well as their myogenic and chondrogenic potentials.The majority of FDCs expressed mesenchymal stromal cell markers but not endothelial cell markers.FDCs underwent chondrogenic differentiation after BMP4 treatment in vitro,but not myogenic differentiation.Although MDCs showed chondrogenic potential,they expressed the myogenic cell marker desmin and readily underwent myogenic differentiation in vitro;however,the chondrogenic potential of the MDCs is confounded by the presence of FDC-like cells residing in the muscle perimysium and endomysium.To clarify the role of the muscle-derived myogenic cells in chondrogenesis,mixed pellets with varying ratios of FDCs and L6 myoblasts were formed and studied for chondrogenic potential.Our results indicated that the chondrogenic potential of the mixed pellets decreased with the increased ratio of myogenic cells to FDCs supporting the role of FDCs in chondrogenesis.Taken together,our results suggest that non-myogenic cells residing in the fascia of skeletal muscle have a strong chondrogenic potential and may represent a novel donor cell source for cartilage regeneration and repair.

BACKGROUND Castleman's disease(CD)is a lymphoproliferative disorder.TAFRO syndrome is classified as a variant of CD based on its key clinical manifestations of thrombocytopenia,anasarca(generalized edema and pleural effusion),fever(pyrexia),reticulin fibrosis in the bone marrow and the proliferation of megakaryocytes,and organomegaly(such as hepatosplenomegaly and multiple lymphadenopathies);TAFRO syndrome is mainly reported in Japanese patients.To our knowledge,this is the first pediatric case report detailing a CD-associated disorder progressing to cirrhosis.CASE SUMMARY A 10-year old male patient presented with fever and anemia.Six months before hospitalization,he had remarkable abdominal distention.Subsequently,he visited a clinic for a fever that lasted 5 d.The physical findings were marked hepatosplenomegaly and cervical lymphadenopathy.A blood test revealed leukocytosis,microcytic anemia,aspartate aminotransferase-dominant transaminase elevation,high levels of C-reactive protein,polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia,and high levels of interleukin-6 and vascular endothelial growth factor.Abdominal contrast computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging suggested cirrhosis,which was confirmed by liver histology.Histological findings in the enlarged hepatic lymph nodes revealed both hyperplasia and atrophy of lymphoid follicles with some vascular hyperplasia and moderate plasmacytosis between the lymphoid follicles,which is compatible with lymph node histology in TAFRO syndrome.Prednisolone was not effective in reducing the patient’s symptoms;therefore,the patient was prescribed tocilizumab.To date,the patient remains free of fever and continues to receive tocilizumab.CONCLUSION We described the clinicopathological features of TAFRO syndrome to highlight the clinical presentation of this rare disease in a pediatric case.
