Interleukin-17 levels in Helicobacter pylori-infected gastric mucosa and pathologic sequelae of colonization

AIM： To determine the role of interleukin （IL）-17 in gastric ulcerogenesis. METHODS： Thirty-six gastric ulcer （GU） patients and 29 non-ulcer （NU） patients were enrolled in this study. Mucosal biopsy samples were obtained from the gastric antrum and GU site during endoscopy. Samples were used in in situ stimulation for 48 h in the presence of 10 ug/mL phytohemagglutinin-P （PHA）, histological examination, and Helicobacter pylori（Hpylon） culture. IL-17 and IL-8 protein levels in culture supematants were assayed by ELISA. IL- 17 mRNA expression was analyzed by reverse transcriptasepolymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR）. Hpylori cagA and vacA status was assessed by reverse hybridization using a line probe assay （UPA）. IL-8 levels in culture supematants were assayed after AGS cells were co-cultured with Hpylori strain 26 695 or recombinant human （rh） IL-17. RESULTS： All 36 GU patients and 15 of 29 NU patients were found to be Hpy/or/-positive, while 14 NU patients were Hpylori-nogative. All 51 H pylori strains from both GU and NU patients were cagA- and vacAsl/ml-positive. Antral mucosal tissues from H pylori-positive patients contained significantly （H pylori-positive NU patients： median 467 pg/mg/protein, range 53-2 499; Hpylori negative NU patients： median 104 pg/mg/protein, range 16-312, P〈0.0005） higher levels of IL-17 than those from uninfected patients. IL-17 levels at the ulcer site were significantly （ulcer site： median 1 356 pcj/mg/protein, range 121-1 3730; antrum： median 761 pg/mg/protein, range 24-7 620, P〈0.005） higher than those at distant sites in the antrum. Biopsies from H pylori-positive GU and NU patients showed IL-17 mRNA expression in all samples whereas those from the antrum of the Hpylori-negativecontrols showed no detectable expression. A significant correlation was seen between IL-17 and IL-8 levels at each biopsy site （ulcer： r = 0.62,P〈0.0001; antrum： r = 0.61, P〈0.0001） in GU patients. Grain refining in weld metal using short-pulsed laser ablation during CW laser welding of 2024-T3 aluminum alloy

The 2024 aluminum alloy is used extensively in the aircraft and aerospace industries because of its excellent mechanical ***,the weldability of 2024 aluminum alloy is generally low because it contains a high number of solutes,such as copper(Cu),magnesium(Mg),and manganese(Mn),causing solidification *** high speed welding of 2024 aluminum alloy without the use of filler is achieved,the applicability of 2024 aluminum alloys will *** refining is one of the methods used to prevent solidification cracking in weld metal,although it has never been achieved for high-speed laser welding of 2024 aluminum alloy without ***,we propose a short-pulsed,laser-induced,grain-refining method during continuous wave laser welding without ***-on-plate welding was performed on a 2024-T3 aluminum alloy at a welding speed of 1 m min−1 with a single mode fiber laser at a wavelength of 1070 nm and power of 1 *** in and around the molten pool were irradiated with nanosecond laser pulses at a wavelength of 1064 nm,pulse width of 10 ns,and pulse energy of 430 *** grain-refinement effect was confirmed when laser pulses were irradiated on the molten *** grain-refinement region was formed in a semicircular shape along the solid–liquid *** of the vertical section indicate that the grain-refinement region reached a depth of 1 mm along the solid–liquid *** Vickers hardness test results demonstrated that the hardness increased as a result of grain refinement and that the progress of solidification cracking was suppressed in the grain refinement region.

Formation of Low Aspect Ratio Torus Equilibria by ECH in the LATE Device

By ECH under a steady By field, a closed field equilibrium of a low aspect ratio as low as R/a = 1.4 is spontaneously formed in the LATE device. After the spontaneous formation, the plasma current has increased further up to Ip = 7.2 kA by 2.45 GHz, 30 kW and Ip = 11 kA by 5 GHz, 120 kW, by increasing the microwave power with a slow ramp of By for the equilibrium of the plasma loop at larger currents. Both amount to 12% of the total toroidai coil current. ECH/ECCD at 2nd harmonic resonance of EBW supports the plasma. An outline of the theoretical considerations for the formation process is presented.

Virtual Reconstruction of Long Bone Fracture in Car-to-pedestrian Collisions Using Multi-body System and Finite Element Method

Lower limb injures are frequently observed in passenger car traffic *** studies of the injuries focus on long bone fractures by using either cadaver component tests or simulations of the long bone kinematics,which lack in-depth study on the fractures in stress *** paper aims to investigate lower limb impact biomechanics in real-world car to pedestrian accidents and to predict fractures of long bones in term of stress parameter for femur,tibia,and *** the above purposes,a 3D finite element(FE) model of human body lower limb(HBM-LL) is developed based on human *** model consists of the pelvis,femur,tibia,fibula,patella,foot bones,primary tendons,knee joint capsule,meniscus,and *** FE model is validated by comparing the results from a lateral impact between simulations and tests with cadaver lower limb *** real-world accidents are selected from an in-depth accident database with detailed information about the accident scene,car impact speed,damage to the car,and pedestrian ***-body system(MBS) models are used to reconstruct the kinematics of the pedestrians in the two accidents and the impact conditions are calculated for initial impact velocity and orientations of the car and pedestrian during the *** FE model is used to perform injury reconstructions and predict the fractures by using physical parameters,such as von Mises stress of long *** calculated failure level of the long bones is correlated with the injury outcomes observed from the two accident *** reconstruction result shows that the HBM-LL FE model has acceptable biofidelity and can be applied to predict the risk of long bone *** study provides an efficient methodology to investigate the long bone fracture suffered from vehicle traffic collisions.

Study of Electron Orbits for Formation of Toroidal Closed Flux Surface by ECH

Electron orbits under the external vertical field （Bv） and the self poloidal field of the toroidal plasma current in a toroidal geometry are investigated by using analytic model fields in order to search for the conditions of occurence of appropriate confinement asymmetry of fast electrons along the field lines. This asymmetry efficiently and quickly generates a toroidal current, which may close the field lines in ECH-started plasmas. It is analytically shown that the characteristics of confinement asymmetry depend on the product of the major radius and the strength of the external vertical field. The results suggest that in large devices By should be lowered and also some artificial means to speed up the pitch angle scattering for the fast electrons at a higher energy range are beneficial to generate the toroidal current in order to close the filed

A Novel Estimating Method for Steering Efficiency of the Driver with Electromyography Signals

The existing research of steering efficiency mainly focuses on the mechanism efficiency of steering system, aiming at designing and optimizing the mechanism of steering system. In the development of assist steering system especially the evaluation of its comfort, the steering efficiency of driver physiological output usually are not considered, because this physiological output is difficult to measure or to estimate, and the objective evaluation of steering comfort therefore cannot be conducted with movement efficiency perspective. In order to take a further step to the objective evaluation of steering comfort, an estimating method for the steering efficiency of the driver was developed based on the research of the relationship between the steering force and muscle activity. First, the steering forces in the steering wheel plane and the electromyography （EMG） signals of the primary muscles were measured. These primary muscles are the muscles in shoulder and upper ann which mainly produced the steering torque, and their functions in steering maneuver were identified previously. Next, based on the multiple regressions of the steering force and EMG signals, both the effective steering force and the total force capacity of driver in steering maneuver were calculated. Finally, the steering efficiency of driver was estimated by means of the estimated effective force and the total force capacity, which represented the information of driver physiological output of the primary muscles. This research develops a novel estimating method for driver steering efficiency of driver physiological output, including the estimation of both steering force and the force capacity of primary muscles with EMG signals, and will benefit to evaluate the steering comfort with an objective perspective.

Optimization of causative factors using logistic regression and artificial neural network models for landslide susceptibility assessment in Ujung Loe Watershed, South Sulawesi Indonesia

Landslide susceptibility maps(LSMs) play a vital role in assisting land use planning and risk mitigation. This study aims to optimize causative factors using logistic regression(LR) and an artificial neural network(ANN) to produce a LSM. The LSM is produced with 11 causative factors and then optimized using forward-stepwise LR(FSLR), ANN, and their combination(FSLR-ANN) until eight causative factors were found for each method. The ANN method produced superior validation results compared with LR. The ROC values for the training data set ranges between 0.8 and 0.9. On the other hand, validation with the percentage of landslide fall into LSM class high and very high, ANN method was higher(92.59%) than LR(82.12%). FSLR-ANN with nine causative factors gave the best validation results with respect to area under curve(AUC) values, and validation with the percentage of landslide fall into LSM class high and very high. In conclusion, ANN was found to be better than LR when producing LSMs. The best Optimization was combination of FSLR-ANN with nine causative factors and AUC success rate 0.847, predictive rate 0.844 and validation with landslide fall into high and very high class with 91.30%. It is an encouraging preliminary model towards a systematic introduction of FSLR-ANN model for optimization causative factors in landslide susceptibility assessment in the mountainous area of Ujung Loe Watershed.
