Facial expressions are the straight link for showing human emotions. Psychologists have established the universality of six prototypic basic facial expressions of emotions which they believe are consistent among cultures and races. However, some recent cross-cultural studies have questioned and to some degree refuted this cultural universality. Therefore, in order to contribute to the theory of cultural specificity of basic expressions, from a composite viewpoint of psychology and HCI (Human Computer Interaction), this paper presents a methodical analysis of Western-Caucasian and East-Asian prototypic expressions focused on four facial regions: forehead, eyes-eyebrows, mouth and nose. Our analysis is based on facial expression recognition and visual analysis of facial expression images of two datasets composed by four standard databases CK+, JAFFE, TFEID and JACFEE. A hybrid feature extraction method based on Fourier coefficients is proposed for the recognition analysis. In addition, we present a cross-cultural human study applied to 40 subjects as a baseline, as well as one comparison of facial expression recognition performance between the previous cross-cultural tests from the literature. With this work, it is possible to clarify the prior considerations for working with multicultural facial expression recognition and contribute to identifying the specific facial expression differences between Western-Caucasian and East-Asian basic expressions of emotions.

The recent boom of mass media communication (such as social media and mobiles) has boosted more applications of automatic facial expression recognition (FER). Thus, human facial expressions have to be encoded and recognized through digital devices. However, this process has to be done under recurrent problems of image illumination changes and partial occlusions. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a fully automated FER system based on Local Fourier Coefficients and Facial Fourier Descriptors. The combined power of appearance and geometric features is used for describing the specific facial regions of eyes-eyebrows, nose and mouth. All based on the attributes of the Fourier Transform and Support Vector Machines. Hence, our proposal overcomes FER problems such as illumination changes, partial occlusion, image rotation, redundancy and dimensionality reduction. Several tests were performed in order to demonstrate the efficiency of our proposal, which were evaluated using three standard databases: CK+, MUG and TFEID. In addition, evaluation results showed that the average recognition rate of each database reaches higher performance than most of the state-of-the-art techniques surveyed in this paper.

TSP and PM samples were simultaneously collected in typical pollution episodes, including haze,dust storm events,biomass burning,and fireworks periods,and normal days from October 2006 to September 2007 in Xi’an,*** samples were mainly analyzed by ion chromatography to investigate the variations of characteristics of inorganic water-soluble ions (Na, NH,K,Mg,Ca,F,Cl,Br,NO,NO,and SO).The results showed that the mass concentrations both for TSP and PM during the typical pollution events were much higher than those in normal ***-soluble ions were one of major components in atmospheric particles during pollution events except dust storm ***,K,F,Cl,NO,and SO were more abundance in the fine size particles,while Mg and Ca were *** chemical profiles of PM ions were disparity in these four kinds of pollution *** collected during haze days were enriched with secondary aerosol species of NH,NO,and *** dust storm events,secondary aerosol components reduced to the lowest level among the pollution events and normal days,while Ca,which represent soil dust,were more *** particles collected during Straw combustion periods showed a remarkable high K and Cl mass *** traditional spring festival dates in China,fireworks brought more K and secondary species in the aerosol *** prevailed to SO can be taken as the fingerprint of firework *** ionic ratios of S/K,NO/SO,and Cl/K were proved effective as the tracer to differ the pollution *** ions composition influence heavily on the acidity of aerosol *** and straw combustion samples were more acidity compared to DS and firework burning,while DS was alkaline and firework is likely to neutral. Meteorological observation showed these typical pollution episodes were all associated with low visibility comparing with normal days.

A morphotropic phase boundary(MPB)with temperature-independent behavior,the so-called vertical MPB was investigated in lead-free(K,Na,Li)NbO_(3)–BaZrO_(3)–(La,Na)TiO_(3)ternary ceramic *** specimens were synthesized by a conventional solid-state reaction method,and their crystal structures as well as their MPB were determined from X-ray diffraction patterns measured from room temperature to 300℃.The vertical MPB composition was determined to be 0.9025(K_(0:45)Na0:5Li_(0:05))NbO_(3)–0.09BaZrO_(3)–0.0075(La,Na)TiO_(3)and the Curie temperature was found to be about 195℃.It was successfully confirmed that ceramic samples of this system could be sintered in a reducing *** lead-free piezoceramic applications of multilayer actuators using Ni inner electrodes,the results obtained in this work have important practical implications.

＜正＞Nanosized perovskite ferroelectric lead strontium titanate（ PbxSr1-x） TiO3 （ PST） powders were successfully prepared by a simple coprecipitation method. Lead-strontium titanyl oxalate（ PSTO） precursor was first synthesized at room temperature, and the precursor was then calcined at a temperature higher than 600℃ for 1 h to produce the single-phase perovskite PST powders. The average diameter was ranging from 10 to 200 nm. PST powders with desired composition could be synthesized by adding 25 mol% excess Sr. Then, Ziegler-Natta catalysts were supported on the PST powders and PST/polyethylene（PST/PE）nanocomposites were prepared by in-situ polymerization. PST/PE nano-composites with different volume fractions of PST were obtained by changing the polymerization time. The dispersion and element distribution of the PST powder in the PST/PE nanocomposite were investigated by analyses and observations of energy dispersion X-ray （ EDX） and transmission electron microscopy（TEM）. The results indicated that the PST powder homogeneously dispersed in the PE matrix. The dielectric properties and Curie temperatures of the PST powders and PST/PE nanocomposites were also evaluated.

Since ancient times,humans have bred several plants that we rely on ***,little is known about the divergence of most of these *** the present study,we investigated the divergence of Mibuna(Brassica rapa *** ***),a traditional leafy vegetable in Kyoto(Japan),by combining genetic analysis and a survey of ancient *** is considered to have been bred 200 years ago from Mizuna,another traditional leafy vegetable in *** has simple spatulate leaves,whereas Mizuna has characteristic serrated *** quantitative trait loci(QTL)and gene expression analyses suggested that the downregulation of BrTCP15 expression contributed to the change in the leaf shape from serrated to simple ***,the SNP analysis indicated that the genomic region containing the BrTCP15 locus was transferred to Mibuna by ***,we conducted a survey of ancient literature to reveal the divergence of Mibuna and found that hybridization between Mizuna and a simple-leaved turnip might have occurred in the ***,the genomic analysis of multiple turnip cultivars showed that one of the cultivars,Murasakihime,has almost the same sequence in the BrTCP15 region as *** results suggest that the hybridization between Mizuna and turnip has resulted in the establishment of Mibuna.

5-aminolevulinic acid(ALA) is a naturally occurring amino acid that is a protoporphyrin IX(Pp IX) precursor and a next-generation photosensitive substance. After exogenous administration of ALA, Pp IX specifically accumulates in cancer cells owing to the impaired metabolism of ALA to Pp IX in mitochondria, which results in a red fluorescence following irradiation with blue light and the formation of singlet oxygen. Fluorescence navigation by photodynamic diagnosis(PDD) using ALA provides good visualization and detection of gastric cancer lesions and is a potentially valuable diagnostic tool for gastric cancer for evaluating both the surgical resection margins and extension of the lesion. Furthermore, PDD using ALA might be used to detect peritoneal metastases during preoperative staging laparoscopy, where it could provide useful information for the selection of a therapeutic approach. Another promising application for this modality is in the evaluation of lymph node metastases. Photodynamic therapy(PDT) using ALA to cause selective damage based on the accumulation of a photosensitizer in malignant tissue is expected to be a non-invasive endoscopic treatment for superficial early gastric cancer. ALA has the potential to be used not only as a diagnostic agent but also as a therapeutic drug, resulting in a new strategy for cancer diagnosis and therapy. Here, we review the current use of PDD and PDT in gastric cancer and evaluate its future potential beyond conventional modalities combined with a light energy upconverter, a light-emitting diode and nearinfrared rays as light sources.

Objective: To determine the effect of family smoking habits on adolescent smoking experience for information for anti-smoking strategies. Subjects and Methods: We analyzed data from 4776 junior high school students and 5047 high school students responding to the “Survey on Prevention of Life-Style Related Diseases of Children” conducted in Nara Prefecture of Japan in 2004. The chi-square test determined the odds ratios (ORs) for smoking experience rates of the two groups of students according to the smoking habits of their fathers, mothers, older brothers, and older sisters. Logistic regression analysis was also performed for smoking experience according to school year, sex, and family smoking habit. Results: The OR for smoking in junior high school students with a father as the only smoking family member against all other cases was 0.60, and the OR with a mother as the only smoking family member was 2.50. The OR with a smoking father against cases with no smoking family members was 1.23, and the OR with a smoking mother against cases with no smoking family members was 3.50. The OR for smoking in high school students with a father as the only smoking family member against all other cases was 0.76, and the OR with a mother as the only smoking family member was 2.66. The OR with a smoking father against cases with no smoking family members was 1.59, and the OR with a smoking mother against cases with no smoking family member was 3.26. All these ORs showed significance. Conclusion: Maternal smoking was associated with a particularly high risk of smoking experience in junior high and high school students. Prevention of maternal smoking should be given high priority to reduce smoking rates in adolescents.
