Background： The destruction and fragmentation of forest in Southeast Asia is accelerating biodiversity loss, resulting in a range of management and conservation actions. For some species, a detailed understanding of microhabitat selection is critical for this, especially in the breeding ***： To understand the factors that explain how specific habitats are used by the Grey Peacock-pheasant（Polyplectron bicalcaratum） in the breeding season, we used camera trapping and microhabitat sampling to assess the microhabitat selection of males. We also looked at their interaction with predators in an area of 1200 m × 1200 m at the Hua Kha Khaeng Wildl fe Sanctuary, Tha land, between January and May ***： We show that display scrapes are situated on flatter open areas with small saplings and some vines, typified by low horizontal understory density. We hypothesise that this allows a trade-off between courtship display and the avoidance of predators. Our study showed that the position of Grey Peacock-pheasant display scrapes regularly overlapped with predators within the same microhabitat. We hypothesise that the species＇ behavioural responses to temporal variation in predation risk allows them to avoid most ***： Particular microhabitats are required for Grey Peacock-pheasant *** avoid predators at these places by being active when predators are not.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate capacitive actuation of a graphene–silicon micro-ring add/drop filter. The mechanism is based on a silicon–SiO_2–graphene capacitor on top of the ring waveguide. We show the capacitive actuation of the add/drop functionality by a voltage-driven change of the graphene optical absorption. The proposed capacitive solution overcomes the need for continuous heating to keep tuned the filter's in/out resonance and therefore eliminates "in operation" energy consumption.

Hepatocellular carcinoma represents an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. It is the sixth most common cancer and the fourth leading cause of cancer death. Liver transplantation is a key tool for the treatment of this disease in human therefore hepatocellular carcinoma is increasing as primary indication for grafting. Although liver transplantation represents an outstanding therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma, due to organ shortage, the careful selection and management of patients who may have a major survival benefit after grafting remains a fundamental question. In fact, only some stages of the disease seem amenable of this therapeutic option, stimulating the debate on the appropriate criteria to select candidates. In this review we focused on current criteria to select patients with hepatocellular carcinoma for liver transplantation as well as on the strategies (bridging) to avoid disease progression and exclusion from grafting during the stay on wait list. The treatments used to bring patients within acceptable criteria (down-staging), when their tumor burden exceeds the standard criteria for transplant, are also reported. Finally, we examined tumor reappearance following liver transplantation. This occurrence is estimated to be approximately 8%-20% in different studies. The possible approaches to prevent this outcome after transplant are reported with the corresponding results.

The importance of integrated quantum photonics in the telecom band is based on the possibility of interfacing with the optical network infrastructure that was developed for classical *** this framework,femtosecond laser-written integrated photonic circuits,which have already been assessed for use in quantum information experiments in the 800-nm wavelength range,have great *** fact,these circuits,being written in glass,can be perfectly mode-matched at telecom wavelength to the in/out coupling fibers,which is a key requirement for a low-loss processing node in future quantum optical *** addition,for several applications,quantum photonic devices must be dynamically ***,we experimentally demonstrate the high performance of femtosecond laser-written photonic circuits for use in quantum experiments in the telecom band,and we demonstrate the use of thermal shifters,which were also fabricated using the same femtosecond laser,to accurately tune such ***-of-the-art manipulation of single-and two-photon states is demonstrated,with fringe visibilities greater than 95%.The results of this work open the way to the realization of reconfigurable quantum photonic circuits based on this technological platform.

In this paper,we describe the data management practices and services developed for making FAIR compliant a scientific archive of Scanning Tunneling Microscopy(STM)*** a first step,we extracted the instrument metadata of each image of the dataset to create a structured *** then enriched these metadata with information on the structure and composition of the surface by means of a pipeline that leverages human annotation,machine learning techniques,and instrument metadata *** visually explore both images and metadata,as well as to improve the accessibility and usability of the dataset,we developed"STM explorer"as a web service integrated within the Trieste Advanced data services(TridAS)*** top of these data services and tools,we propose an implementation of the W3C PROV standard to describe provenance metadata of STM images.

Wilson’s disease(Wd)is a rare inherited disorder of human copper metabolism,with an estimated prevalence of 1:30000-1:50000 and a broad spectrum of hepatic and neuropsychiatric *** healthy individuals,the bile is the main route of elimination of *** Wd patients,copper accumulates in the liver,it is released into the bloodstream,and is excreted in *** can also be accumulated in the brain,kidneys,heart,and osseous matter and causes damage due to direct toxicity or oxidative *** Wd is commonly but not exclusively diagnosed in childhood or young ***,non-cirrhotic Wd patients seem to have a normal life ***,chronic management of patients with Wilson’s disease is challenging,as available biochemical tests have many limitations and do not allow a clear identification of non-compliance,overtreatment,or treatment *** provide optimal care,clinicians should have a complete understanding of these limitations and counterbalance them with a thorough clinical *** aim of this review is to provide clinicians with practical tools and suggestions which may answer doubts that can arise during chronic management of patients with hepatic *** particular,it summarises current knowledge on Wilson’s disease clinical and biochemical monitoring and *** also analyses available evidence on pregnancy and the role of low-copper diet in *** research should focus on trying to provide new copper metabolism tests which could help to guide treatment adjustments.

Many scientific fields increasingly use high-performance computing(HPC)to process and analyze massive amounts of experimental data while storage systems in today's HPC environments have to cope with new access *** patterns include many metadata operations,small I/O requests,or randomized file I/O,while general-purpose parallel file systems have been optimized for sequential shared access to large *** buffer file systems create a separate file system that applications can use to store temporary *** aggregate node-local storage available within the compute nodes or use dedicated SSd clusters and offer a peak bandwidth higher than that of the backend parallel file system without interfering with ***,burst buffer file systems typically offer many features that a scientific application,running in isolation for a limited amount of time,does not *** present GekkoFS,a temporary,highly-scalable file system which has been specifically optimized for the aforementioned use *** provides relaxed POSIX semantics which only offers features which are actually required by most(not all)*** is,therefore,able to provide scalable I/O performance and reaches millions of metadata operations already for a small number of nodes,significantly outperforming the capabilities of common parallel file systems.
