In the Mediterranean region,despite bamboo being an alien species that can seriously alter plant and ani-mal biocoenosis,the area occupied by bamboo plantations continues to increase,especially for the purpose to seques-ter carbon(c).However,the c dynamics in the soil-plant system when bamboo is grown outside its native area are poorly *** we investigated the c mitigation potential of the fast-growing Moso bamboo(Phyllostachys edulis)introduced in Italy for climate-change *** analyzed aboveground(AGB)and belowground(as root/shoot ratio)biomass,litter and soil organic c(SOc)at O-15-and 15-30-cm depths in a 4-year-old bamboo plantation in comparison with the former annual cropland on which the bamboo was *** have an idea of the maximum c stored at an ecosystem level,a natural forest adjacent the two sites was also *** the plantation,c accumulation as AGB was stimulated,with 14.8±3.1 Mg c ha^(-1) stored in 3 years;because thinning was done to remove culms from the first year,the mean sequestration rate was 4.9 Mg c ha^(-1) a^(-1).The sequestration rates were high but comparable to other fast-growing tree species in Italy(e.g.,Pinus nigra).SOc was significantly higher in the bamboo plantation than in the cropland only at the 0-15 cm depth,but SOc stock did not *** 4 years were not enough time for a clear increase in SOc,or the high nutrient uptake by bamboos might have depleted the soil nutrients,thus inhibiting the soil organic matter formation by *** comparison,the natural forest had significantly higher c levels in all the *** c dynamics at an ecosystem level,the bamboo plantation on the former annual cropland led to substantial c removal from the atmosphere(about 12 Mg c ha^(-1) a^(-1)).However,despite the promising c sequestration rates by bamboo,its introduction should be carefully considered due to potential ecological problems caused by this species in overexploited environments such as the Med

Diatomic catalysts(DAcs)with two adjacent metal atoms supported on graphene can offer diverse functionalities,overcoming the inherent limitations of single atom catalysts(SAcs).In this study,density functional theory calculations were conducted to investigate the reactivity of the carbon dioxide(cO_(2))reduction reaction(cO_(2)RR)on metal sites of both DAcs and SAcs,as well as their synergistic effects on activity and *** of the Gibbs free energies of cO_(2)RR and associated values of the limiting potentials to generate c_(1) products showed that cu acts as a promoter rather than an active catalytic centre in the catalytic cO_(2)conversion on heteronuclear DAcs(cuN_(4)-MN_(4)),improving the catalytic activity on the other metal compared to the related SAc MN_(4).cu enhances the initial reduction of cO_(2)by promoting orbital hybridization between the key intermediate*cOOH 2p-orbitals and the metals 3d-orbitals around the Fermi *** degree of hybridization in the DAcs cuN_(4)-MN_(4) decreases from Fe to co,Ni,and *** work demonstrates how cu regulates the cO_(2)RR performance of heteronuclear DAcs,offering an effective approach to designing practical,stable,and high-performing diatomic catalysts for cO_(2)electroreduction.

Abstract In shock wave theory there are two considerations in selecting the physically relevant shock waves. There is the admissibility criterion for the well-posedness of hyperbolic conservation laws. Another consideration concerns the entropy production across the shocks. The latter is natural from the physical point of view, but is not sufficient in its straightforward formulation, if the system is not genuinely nonlinear. In this paper we propose the principles of increasing entropy production and that of the superposition of shocks. These principles are shown to be equivalent to the admissibility criterion.

In this paper,we describe the data management practices and services developed for making FAIR compliant a scientific archive of Scanning Tunneling Microscopy(STM)*** a first step,we extracted the instrument metadata of each image of the dataset to create a structured *** then enriched these metadata with information on the structure and composition of the surface by means of a pipeline that leverages human annotation,machine learning techniques,and instrument metadata *** visually explore both images and metadata,as well as to improve the accessibility and usability of the dataset,we developed"STM explorer"as a web service integrated within the Trieste Advanced Data services(TriDAS)*** top of these data services and tools,we propose an implementation of the W3c PROV standard to describe provenance metadata of STM images.

Background： Adaptive response includes a variety of physiological modifications to face changes in external or internal conditions and adapt to a new situation. The acute phase proteins（APPs） are reactants synthesized against environmental stimuli like stress, infection, ***： To delineate the differences in molecular constituents of adaptive response to the environment we performed the whole-blood transcriptome analysis in Italian Holstein（IH） and Italian Simmental（IS） breeds. For this, 663 IH and IS cows from six commercial farms were clustered according to the blood level of APPs. Ten extreme individuals（five APP＋ and APP-variants） from each farm were selected for the RNA-seq using the Illumina sequencing technology. Differentially expressed（DE） genes were analyzed using dynamic impact approach（DIA）and DAVID annotation clustering. Milk production data were statistically elaborated to assess the association of APP＋ and APP-gene expression patterns with variations in milk ***： The overall de novo assembly of cDNA sequence data generated 13,665 genes expressed in bovine blood cells. comparative genomic analysis revealed 1,152 DE genes in the comparison of all APP＋ vs. all APP-variants; 531 and 217 DE genes specific for IH and IS comparison respectively. In all comparisons overexpressed genes were more represented than underexpressed ones. DAVID analysis revealed 369 DE genes across breeds, 173 and 73 DE genes in IH and IS comparison respectively.
