Colloid cysts are benign intracranial lesions located at the anterior roof of the third ventricle, which can result in the obstruction of the foramen of Monro and subsequent hydrocephalus or sudden death. Colloid cysts have been treated by mierosurgical resection or by stereotaetic aspiration. More recently, the use of rigid neuroendoscopy for colloid cysts has been attempted, but the efficacy of the flexible neuroendoscopic system is undetermined except for limited reports.

Objectives: Glioblastoma(GBM) is one of the worst cancers in terms of *** therapy consists of resection with concomitant *** to nimustine hydrochloride(ACNU),an alkylating agent,has been linked to methylguanine DNA methyltransferase(MGMt).Daily administration of procarbazine(PCZ) has been reported to decrease MGMt *** study investigated the efficacy of ACNU + PCZ compared to ACNU alone for GBM and anaplastic astrocytoma(AA).Methods: Patients(20-69 years) who had newly diagnosed AA and GBM were randomly assigned to receive radiotherapy with ACNU alone or with ACNU + *** primary endpoint was overall survival(OS).this was designed as a phase Ⅱ/Ⅲ trial with a total sample size of 310 patients and was registered as UMIN-CtR ***: After 111 patients from 19 centers in Japan were enrolled,this study was terminated early because temozolomide was newly approved in *** median OS and median progression-free survival(PFS) with ACNU alone(n = 55) or ACNU + PCZ(n = 56) in the intention-to-treat population were 27.4 and 22.4 months(P = 0.75),and 8.6 and 6.9 months,*** median OS and median PFS of the GBM subgroup treated with ACNU alone(n = 40) or ACNU + PCZ(n = 41) were 19.0 and 19.5 months,and 6.2 and 6.3 months,*** 3/4 hematologic adverse events occurred in more than 40% of patients in both arms,and 27% of patients discontinued treatment because of adverse ***: the addition of PCZ to ACNU was not beneficial,in comparison with ACNU alone,for patients with newly diagnosed AA and GBM.

Cost reduction in electric power generation is a major management concern, and it is therefore necessary to reduce maintenance expenses while upholding plant reliability. A maintenance optimization system 'FREEDOM', which uses RBM technique, DCF (discounted cash flow) and NPV (net present value) calculation functions, has been newly developed. this system probabilistically evaluates the lifetime of boiler and turbine and quantitatively calculates the risk defined as the cumulative probability of failure multiplied by the consequence of failure. Economically optimized timing of inspection and alternative countermeasure such as repair and replacement are then recommended. this system has already been applied to seven plants in Japan, and its effectiveness has been confirmed.

Vibrational dynamics of the CN stretching mode of [Ru(CN)_6]^(4-) in D_2O studied by nonlinear infrared spectroscopy

We have studied vibrational dynamics of the t1u mode of the CN stretching mode of [Ru(CN)6 ]4- in D2O by infrared(IR) nonlinear spectroscopy such as an IR three-pulse photon echo experiment and polarization-sensitive IR pump-probe spectroscopy. the isotropic component of the pump-probe signal shows a bi-exponential decay with time constants of 0.8 ps and 20.8 ps. the fast and slow components correspond to the rapid equilibration between the t1u mode and the Raman active modes of the CN stretching mode and the vibrational population relaxation from the v=1 state of the t1u mode,respectively. Anisotropy of the pump-probe signal decays with a time constant of 3.1 ps,which is due to the time evolution of the superposition states of the triply degenerate t1u modes. three pulse photon echo measurements showed that the time correlation function of the frequency fluctuation decays bi-exponentially with time constants of 80 fs and 1.4 ps. these time constants depend only on the solute and are independent of the solvent,whereas the amplitudes depend on both the solute and solvent.

St2 protein is a soluble splicing variant of St2L protein, which is the receptor for interleukin-33 （IL-33）. Previously, we reported that soluble St2 suppressed the signal transduction of lipopolysaccharide （LPS） and cytokine production in monocytic cells. to investigate whether or not this inhibitory effect occurs in dendritic cells, which are the key players in innate and adaptive immunity, human monocyte-derived dendritic cells were pre-treated with soluble St2 protein before LPS stimulation. Although soluble St2 did not attenuate the LPS-induced maturation of dendritic cells, pre-treatment with soluble St2 suppressed cytokine production and inhibited LPS signaling. Moreover, the proliferation of naive t cells was inhibited significantly by soluble St2 pre-treatment. IL-33 had little effect on the cytokine production of immature monocyte-derived dendritic cells. Furthermore, soluble St2 protein was internalized into dendritic cells, suggesting that soluble St2 protein acts by a noncanonical mechanism other than the sequestration of IL-33.

traditional "magic numbers" were once regarded as immutable throughout the nuclear chart. However, unexpected changes were found for unstable nuclei around N = 20. With both proton and neutron numbers around the magic number of 20, the neutron-rich ^(39)Cl isotope provides a good test case for the study of the quantumstate evolution across the major shell. In the present work, the negative parity states in ^(39)Cl are investigated through the β decay spectroscopy of 39 S. Newly observed γ transitions together with a new state are assigned into the level scheme of ^(39)Cl. the spin parity of 5/2^- for the lowest negative parity state in ^(39)Cl is reconfirmed using the combined γ transition information. these systematic observations of the negative parity states in ^(39)Cl allow a comprehensive comparison with the theoretical descriptions. the lowest 5/2^- state in ^(39)Cl remains exotic in terms of comparisons with existing theoretical calculations and with the neighboring isotopes having similar single-particle configurations. Further experimental and theoretical investigations are suggested.

Methylation and Expression Status of <i>SOCS</i>1 and <i>SOCS</i>3 in Oral Lichen Planus

Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a disease of unknown etiology affecting oral mucosa by mediated chronic inflammation and is classified as a potentially malignant oral disorder. SOCS1 and SOCS3 in the SOCS family have been identified as negative regulators of the cytokine-activated JAK/StAt pathway responsible for inflammatory reaction. the DNA methylation in the promoter regions of SOCS1 and SOCS3 have been reported to correlate with carcinogenesis. In this study, we performed methylation-specific PCR (MSP) to investigate the methylation status of the promoter regions in SOCS1 and SOCS3 genes using biopsy samples from OLP and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients. SOCS1 was methylated in 14/29 (48.3%) cases with OLP and 7/15 (46.7%) cases with OSCC. At the same time, SOCS3 was methylated in 25/29 (86.2%) cases with OLP and 11/15 (73.3%) cases with OSCC. We didn’t recognize any DNA methylation in SOCS1 or SOCS3 genes from the exfoliated cytological specimens of normal buccal mucosa. Furthermore, mRNA expression level was analyzed using real-time Rt-PCR method to evaluate the correlation with DNA methylation status. DNA methylation status of SOCS1 seemed not to affect the expression level of SOCS1 mRNA. At the same time, DNA methylation status of SOCS3 was negatively correlated with the expression level of SOCS3 mRNA (p t frequent methylation of the SOCS3 gene promoter, theoretically resulting in the increase of cytokines expression, might be associated with the etiological mechanism of OLP.

Superficial non-ampullary duodenal epithelial tumor(SNADEt) is defined as a sporadic tumor that is confined to the mucosa or submucosa that does not arise from Vater's papilla, and it includes adenoma a n d a d e n o c a r c i n o m a. R e c e n t d e v e l o p m e n t s i n endoscopic technology, such as high-resolution endoscopy and image-enhanced endoscopy, may increase the chances of detecting SNADEt lesions. However, because SNADEt is rare, little is known about its preoperative endoscopic diagnosis. the use of endoscopic resection for SNADEt, which has no risk of metastasis, is increasing, but the incidence of complications, such as perforation, is significantly higher than in any other part of the digestive tract. A preoperative diagnosis is required to distinguish between lesions that should be followed up and those that require treatment. Retrospective studies have revealed certain endoscopic findings that suggest malignancy. In recent years, several new imaging modalities have been developed and explored for realtime diagnosis of these lesion types. Establishing an endoscopic diagnostic tool to differentiate between adenoma and adenocarcinoma in SNADEt lesions is required to select the most appropriate treatment. this review describes the current state of knowledge about preoperative endoscopic diagnosis of SNADEts, such as duodenal adenoma and duodenal adenocarcinoma. Newer endoscopic techniques, including magnifying endoscopy, may help to guide these diagnostics, but their additional advantages remain unclear, and further studies are required to clarify these issues.

目的;F-fluciclovine(anti-;F-FACBC)氨基酸代谢显像诊断脑肿瘤的效能较好,而;FFDG诊断脑肿瘤存在局限性。该研究通过Ⅱa期临床研究来评价anti-;F-FACBC在脑胶质瘤患者肿瘤中的分布和安全性。方法 5例脑胶质瘤拟行手术切除的患者术前静脉注射anti-;F-FACBC后行PEt显像,同时行钆增强t;加权（CE-t;W）MRI。根据CE-t;MRI和anti-;F-FACBC PEt显像结果,取术中标本行组织病理学分析。比较MRI和PEt/Ct图像上的肿瘤范围。Anti-;F-FACBC显像时绘制肿瘤和正常脑组织的时间-放射性曲线,在肿瘤、对侧正常脑组织和小脑部位勾画ROI,并计算上述部位SUV。根据患者主观症状、客观体征、心电图、生命体征、实验室检查结果和不良反应发生情况评价anti-;F-FACBC的安全性。结果所有患者的胶质瘤病灶均摄取anti-;F-FACBC,CE-t;W MRI也可显示病灶,但前者显像的病灶范围大于后者。组织病理学结果证实,有2例患者的病灶在anti-;F-FACBC显像的病灶范围内,但在CE-t;W MRI显示的范围外。2例患者出现轻度不良反应:1例头部隐痛到轻度头痛,1例全身不适;上述症状均自行缓解。轻度头痛和anti-;F-FACBC的因果关系无法排除。该研究还发现,肿瘤与正常组织存在较高的t/N比值。结论 Anti-;F-FACBC PEt/Ct显像可以显示胶质瘤的病灶范围,其准确性比CE-t;W MRI高。Anti-;F-FACBC用于脑胶质瘤患者显像有较好的安全性。
