The formation and control of a room-temperature magnetic order in two- dimensional （2D） materials is a challenging quest for the advent of innovative magnetic- and spintronic-based technologies. To date, edge magnetism in 2D materials has been experimentally observed in hydrogen （H）-terminated graphene nanoribbons （GNRs） and graphene nanomeshes （GNMs）, but the measured magnetization remains far too small to allow envisioning practical applications. Herein, we report experimental evidences of large room-temperature edge ferromagnetism （FM） obtained from oxygen （O）-terminated zigzag pore edges of few-layer black phosphorus （P） nanomeshes （BPNMs）. The magnetization values per unit area are -100 times larger than those reported for H-terminated GNMs, while the magnetism is absent for H-terminated BPNMs. The magnetization measurements and the first-principles simulations suggest that the origin of such a magnetic order could stem from ferromagnetic spin coupling between edge P with O atoms, resulting in a strong spin localization at the edge valence band, and from uniform oxidation of full pore edges over a large area and interlayer spin interaction. Our findings pave the way for realizing high-efficiency 2D flexible magnetic and spintronic devices without the use of rare magnetic elements.

Effects of elevated [CO_2] on stem and root lodging among rice cultivars

Studies showed that elevated [CO2] would improve photosynthetic rates and enhance yields of rice;however,few studies have focused on the response of rice lodging,which is a major cause of cereal yield loss and quality reduction,under elevated [CO2].In this study,we examined the effects of elevated [CO2] on stem and root lodging using 4 rice cultivars(86Y8,japonica hybrid;LYP9,2-line indica hybrid;variety 9311,type of indica inbred rice,and SY63,3-line indica hybrid) grown under two [CO2] levels:400 and 680 μmol *** results indicated that under elevated [CO2],the stem-lodging risk(SLR) of 9311 decreased,while in SY63 the SLR increased,86Y8 and LYP9 were not significantly affected;the risk of root lodging was reduced for all cultivars,because root biomass(instead of root number) and bending strength were increased significantly,and then the increase of anti-lodging ability is far higher than that of self-weight mass moment for all *** findings suggested that higher [CO2] can enhance the risk of stem-lodging for cultivars with strong-[CO2]-responses,but may not aggravate the root lodging for all rice cultivars.

Metal oxides have been used as the supports for heterogeneous catalysis formany years,but they still suffer from coking in some high-temperature *** main reasons for coking are the uncontrollable dissociation of C-H and the overbalance between carbon deposition and ***,we find a boron nitride(BN)-immobilized Ni catalyst shows unprecedented coking resistance in dry reforming of methane via the incomplete decomposition of *** the Ni-based catalysts supported by traditional metal oxides,BN-supported Ni accelerates the first C-H dissociation while inhibiting the breaking of the final C-H bond;hence,the suppression of the complete decomposition of methane thoroughly addresses the coking *** work reveals the fundamental reason for the coking resistance over BN-supported Ni catalysts is selective activation of the C-H bond,which can provide an inspiring idea for other applications.

Proposal and Analyses of Resonant Bilateral Converter Employing Simple Zero Current Switches

With the development of devices for high performance, the circuit technologies have been also studied. One of the main streams concerns a soft switching technology to mitigate switching stress, leading to the reduction in switching losses or electro-magnetic noise. On the other hand, as a characterized orthodox technology＇, the existing chopper circuit is used for the electric vehicles, etc.. Such technologies have a tendency to go out of vogue as power supplies for such vehicles. However, as a boost chopper for the battery charger for an electric vehicle, those technologies become a main stream, where a bilateral function is required. With the foregoing in mind, the authors have devised and analyzed the bilateral chopper using the soft-switch technology, which could be applied to a battery charger for an electric vehicle or similar.

The Relationship between Major Components of PM2.5 and Meteorological Factors in Urban Tokyo, Japan

In this research, the main purpose is to estimate the variation of PM2.5 mass concentration and study the influence of meteorological characteristics on major components of PM2.5 concentrations in urban Tokyo, Japan. The results shown that the annual mean mass concentration of PM2.5 in urban Tokyo was higher than JEQS （Japanese Environmental Quality Standard） of the MOEJ （Ministry of the Environment Japan）（15 μg/m^3）, and 41.1% of the daily PM2.5 mass concentration exceeded the annual JEQS concentration during observation period. The major components of PM2.5 including SO4^2-, NO3^-, NH4^＋, OC and EC were tightly related to the meteorological conditions, the correlations results shown that the wind speed and relative humidity had significant correlations with major components of PM2.5 than the other meteorological factors. Higher relative humidity, windless and less rainfall conditions were favorable for elimination of PM2.5 concentration. Higher temperature was beneficial to the formation of SO42＂, but higher temperature and stronger sunshine duration were not conducive to the formation of NO3^-.

Active Stall Control System on NACA0012 by Using Synthetic Jet Actuator

Flow separation is typically an undesirable phenomenon, and boundary layer control is an important technique for the separation problems on airfoils. The synthetic jet actuator is considered as a promising candidate for flow control applications because of its compact nature and ability to generate momentum without the need for fluidic plumbing. In the present study, an active separation control system using synthetic jets is proposed and practically applied to the stall control of the NACA0012 airfoil in a wind tunnel test. In our proposed system, the flow conditions (stalled or unstalled) can be judged by calculating from two static pressure holes on the airfoil upper surface alone. The experimental results indicate that the maximum lift coefficient increases by 11% and the stall angle rises by 4°in contrast to the case under no control. It is confirmed that our proposed system can suppress the stall on the NACA0012 airfoil and that the aerodynamic performance of the airfoil can be enhanced. The proposed system can also be operated prior to the onset of stall. Therefore, separation control is always attained with no stall for all flow fields produced by changing the angle of attack that were examined.

Usefulness of the clip-flap method of endoscopic submucosal dissection: A randomized controlled trial

AIM To prospectively investigate the efficacy and safety of clipflap assisted endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) for gastric *** From May 2015 to October 2016, we enrolled 104 patients with gastric cancer or adenoma scheduled for ESD at Shiga University of Medical Science Hospital. We randomized patients into two subgroups using the minimization method based on location of the tumor(upper, middle or lower third of the stomach), tumor size( 20 mm) and ulcer status: ESD using an endoclip(the clip-flap group) and ESD without an endoclip(the conventional group). Therapeutic efficacy(procedure time) and safety(complication: Gastrointestinal bleeding and perforation) were assessed. RESULTS En bloc resection was performed in all patients. Four patients had delayed bleeding(3.8%) and two had perforation(1.9%). No significant differences in en bloc resection rate(conventional group: 100%, clip flap group: 100%), curative endoscopic resection rate(conventional group: 90.9%, clip flap group: 89.8%, P = 0.85), procedure time(conventional group: 70.8 ± 46.2 min, clip flap group: 74.7 ± 53.3 min, P = 0.69), area of resected specimen(conventional group: 884.6 ± 792.1 mm^2, clip flap group: 1006.4 ± 1004.8 mm^2, P = 0.49), delayed bleeding rate(conventional group: 5.5%, clip flap group: 2.0%, P = 0.49), or perforation rate(conventional group: 1.8%, clip flap group: 2.0%, P = 0.93) were found between the two groups. Lessexperienced endoscopists did not show any differences in procedure time between the two *** For patients with early-stage gastric tumors, the clipflap method has no advantage in efficacy or safety compared with the conventional method.

Measurement of Surface SH-Wave Velocities Generated on the Surface of Japanese Cypress Column

Polyetherimide resin wedge transducers were used to generate a shear wave that was obliquely incident relative to the surface of a Japanese cypress column for measuring the surface SH-wave velocity. As the inter-transducer distance increased, the propagation time increased and the am-plitude became smaller. The propagation time and the amplitude were significantly correlated with the inter-transducer distance. The SH-wave velocity ranged from 1270 m/s to 1496 m/s. Surface SH-wave velocity was lower in the central part of the column and higher in the outer part. Velocity was negatively correlated with moisture content at 1% of significance level. These results suggest the accomplishment of the first target for applying the surface SH-wave acoustoelastic technique to nondestructive evaluation of drying stress in wood.
