The activated sludge process to remove nitrogen and biochemical oxygen demand （BOD） is reportedly cost-effective for swine wastewater treatment, and it use has thus increased in pig farming. Nitrous oxide （N20） is generated on farms as an intermediate product in nitrification and denitrification, and methane （CH4） is also generated from organic degradation under anaerobic conditions by microorganisms in manure or wastewater. This study was carried out at five activated sludge treatment facilities across Japan between August 2014 and January 2015. Measurements were conducted over several weeks at wastewater purification facilities for swine farms： two in Chiba prefecture （East Japan）, two in Okayama prefecture （West Japan）, and one in Saga （Southern Japan）. Taking several environmental fluctuations into account, we collected measurement data continuously day and night, during both high-temperature and low-temperature periods. The results indicated that CH4 and N20 emission factors were 0.91% （kgCHa·kg volatile solids^-1） and 2.87% （g N2O-N·kg total N^-1）, respectively. Ammonia emissions were negligible in all of the measurements from the wastewater facilities. The N20 emission factor calculated under this experiment was low compared to our previous finding （5.0%; g N2O-N·kg N^-1） in a laboratory experiment. In contrast, the CH4 emission factor calculated herein was rather high compared to the laboratory measurements. There was great variation in daily GHG emission factors measured in the actual wastewater treatment facilities. In particular, the N2O emission rate was affected by several environmental conditions at each facility location, as well as by the management of the wastewater treatment.

Ultrasound plays an important role not only in preoperative diagnosis but also in intraoperative guidance for liver *** ultrasound(IOUS)has become an indispensable tool for modern liver surgeons,especially for minimally invasive surgeries,partially substituting for the surgeon’s *** fundamental mode,Doppler mode,contrast enhancement,elastography,and real-time virtual sonography,IOUS can provide additional real-time information regarding the intrahepatic anatomy,tumor site and characteristics,macrovascular invasion,resection margin,transection plane,perfusion and outflow of the remnant liver,and local ablation efficacy for both open and minimally invasive liver *** and localization of intrahepatic lesions and surrounding structures are crucial for performing liver resection,preserving the adjacent vital vascular and bile ducts,and sparing the functional liver *** ultrasound can provide critical information for intraoperative decision-making and ***,all liver surgeons must master IOUS techniques,and IOUS should be included in the training of modern liver *** investigation of the potential benefits and advances in these techniques will increase the use of IOUS in modern liver surgeries *** study comprehensively reviews the current use of IOUS in modern liver surgeries.

In recent years,oxygen storage materials(OSMs)have been widely used in many *** would be particularly important for researchers to design high-oxygen-uptake/release-rate *** this study,various synthesis processes were used to successfully synthesize YBaCo_(4)O_(7+δ)and comprehensively investigate their potential *** red with traditional solid-state reaction method and co-precipitation method,the results demonstrated that the utilization of mechanical ball milling treatment on co-precipitated precursors could lead to samples with reversible oxygen uptake/release under an oxidative atmosphere at low *** resultant materials exhibited fast oxygen absorption/desorption rate that could uptake/release oxygen directly to the equilibrium state within 9 min and20 min,*** mechanochemically ball-milled sample possessed outstanding oxygen sto rage performance,which could be attributed to their small particle size,the active outer surface of particles,large specific surface area,and relatively low activation ***,the ball-milled sample also exhibited excellent cycling stability during relatively short time *** results also demonstrated that the ball-milled samples could reversibly uptake/release 2.90 wt.%of excess oxygen(while only 0.70 wt.%for solid-state samples)by adjusting the ambient temperature under pure O_(2) atmosphere,which would make them promising candidates in various *** research demonstrated that mechanical treatment could be an effective strategy to tune the properties and oxygen storage capacity(OSC)performances of YBaCo_(4)O_(7+δ).

Objective: To investigate whether the extract from the nacreous layer of pearl oysters(nacre extract) improves impairments in memory caused by scopolamine administration in ***: Nacre extract was prepared from the inner shell layer of pearl oyster. Effects of nacre extract on scopolamine-induced memory impairment were estimated using novel object recognition test, Y-maze test, and Barnes maze test Effect of nacre extract on mRNA expressions which are genes associated with memory in the hippocampus was investigated using semi-quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) ***: Administration of nacre extract led to the protection against scopolamine-induced impairments in object recognition, short-term memory, and spatial memory. Treatment with nacre extract reversed the mRNA expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) and Homer protein homolog 1(Homer-1 a) in the hippocampus, which decreased with the treatment of scopolamine. Conclusions: These results suggest that nacre extract has attenuating effects on memory impairments induced by scopolamine through the increase in mRNA expression of BDNF and Homer-1 a.

Objective: To investigate the influence of calcium carbonate supplementation on cognitive function in mice. Methods: Mice were fed diets containing 1.0% calcium carbonate for 8 weeks, following which they were evaluated for memory function using object recognition, Y-maze, and Barnes maze tests. Next, the expression levels of cAMP response element binding protein(CREB) and phosphorylated CREB, which is involved in the memory process were investigated in both the hippocampus and cerebral cortex using western blotting methods. Results: Mice fed on a diet containing calcium carbonate showed memory impairments in object recognition, Y-maze, and Barnes maze tests with respect to the mice that were on a control diet. Further, mice that were fed a diet containing calcium carbonate and a nimodipine(an L-type calcium channel antagonist), reversed calcium carbonate-induced memory impairments, thus suggesting that excessive entry of calcium in cells may cause memory impairments. A study using western blot revealed that expression of CREB and phosphorylated CREB in hippocampus and cerebral cortex was significantly lower in the calcium carbonatefed mice than in the control-diet-fed mice. Conclusions: These results suggest that a calcium carbonate diet may cause memory impairment by decreasing CREB expression. This is the first report of calcium carbonate supplementation causing memory impairment. This simple animal model may be useful as a novel cognitive impairment model for drug development.

BACKGROUND Gambling disorder is characterized by excessive and recurrent gambling and can have serious negative social *** several psychotherapeutic and pharmacological approaches have been used to treat gambling disorder,new treatment strategies are *** evidence suggests that dopamine D3 receptor plays a specific role in the brain reward *** To investigate if blonanserin,a dopamine D3 receptor antagonist,would be effective in reducing gambling impulses in patients with gambling *** We developed a study protocol to measure the efficacy and safety of blonanserin as a potential drug for gambling disorder,in which up to 12 mg/d of blonanserin was prescribed for 8 *** A 37-year-old female patient with gambling disorder,intellectual disability,and other physical diseases participated in the pilot *** case showed improvement of gambling symptoms without any ***,blonanserin was discontinued owing to excessive saliva *** This case suggests that blonanserin is potentially an effective treatment for patients with gambling disorder who resist standard therapies,but it also carries a risk of adverse effects. Further studies are needed to confirm the findings.

The vacuolar (H+)-ATPases (V-ATPases) are ATP-driven proton pumps with multiple functions in many organisms. In this study, we performed structural and functional analysis of vha55 gene that encodes V-ATPase subunit B in the smokybrown cockroach Periplaneta fuliginosa (Blattodea). We observed a high homology score of the deduced amino acid sequences between 10 species in seven orders. RNAi of the vha55 gene in R fuliginosa caused nymphal/nymphal molting defects with incomplete shedding of old cuticles, growth inhibition, as well as bent and wrinkled cuticles of thoraxes and abdominal segments. Since growth inhibition caused by vha55 RNAi did not interfere in the commencement of cockroach molting, molting timing and body growth might be controlled by independent mechanism. Our study suggested V-ATPases might be a good candidate molecule for evolutionary and developmental studies of insect molting.
