Advances in the neurobiology of.growth f.ctors, neural development, and prevention of.cell death have resulted in a heightened clinical interest f.r the development of.protective and regenerative neuromodulatory strategies f.r the cavernous nerves （CNs）, as therapies f.r prostate cancer and other pelvic malignancies of.en result in neuronal damage and debilitating loss of.sexual f.nction. Nitric oxide released f.om the axonal end plates of.these nerves within the corpora cavernosa causes relaxation of.smooth muscle, initiating the haemodynamic changes of.penile erection as well as contributing to maintained tumescence; the loss of.CN f.nction is primarily responsible f.r the development of.erectile dysf.nction （ED） af.er pelvic surgery and serves as the primary target f.r potential neuroprotective or regenerative strategies. Evidence f.om pre-clinical studies f.r select neuromodulatory approaches is reviewed, including neurotrophins, glial cell line-derived neurotrophic f.ctors （GDNf., bone morphogenic proteins, immunophilin ligands, erythropoetin （EPO）, and stem cells.

Stem cells hold great promise f.r regenerative medicine because of.their ability to self.renew and to dif.erentiate into various cell types. Although embryonic stem cells （BSC） have greater dif.erentiation potential than adult stem cells, the f.rmer is lagging in reaching clinical applications because of.ethical concerns and governmental restrictions. Bone marrow stem cells （BMSC） are the best-studied adult stem cells （ASC） and have the potential to treat a wide variety of.diseases, including erectile dysf.nction （ED） and male inf.rtility. More recently discovered adipose tissuederived stem cells （ADSC） are virtually identical to bone marrow stem cells in dif.erentiation and therapeutic potential, but are easier and saf.r to obtain, can be harvested in larger quantities, and have the associated benef.t of.reducing obesity. Theref.re, ADSC appear to be a better choice f.r f.ture clinical applications. We have previously shown that ESC could restore the erectile f.nction of.neurogenic ED in rats, and we now have evidence that ADSC could do so as well. We are also investigating whether ADSC can dif.erentiate into Leydig, Sertoli and male germ cells. Over the past f.w years,the development of.nonf.llerene acceptors(Nf.s)has become a prominent f.cus in both organic and perovskite solar cell(OSCs and PSCs,respectively)research *** this context,porphyrinoids,compounds structurally related to porphyrins,have emerged as promising solar cell *** contrast to the widely used f.llerene acceptors,porphyrinoids exhibit strong,broad absorption properties across the UV–vis/NIR spectrum,which can be easily tuned through chemical ***,they can be prepared and derivatized using cost-ef.ective and straightf.rward methodologies,allowing f.r convenient adjustments in thin-f.lm morphology,processability,supramolecular organization,and energy ***,these compounds of.er higher thermal and photochemical stability,resulting in longer device lif.times compared to their f.llerene-based *** this review,we outline the utilization of.porphyrinoids as Nf.s in OSCs and PSCs,discussing essential aspects such as design guidelines,molecular properties,and device *** goal is to inspire and f.rther promote the development of.n-type porphyrinoids,which have not yet f.lly unleashed their potential.

Schwann cells （SCs） are the principal gila of.the peripheral nervous system. The end point of.SC development is the f.rmation of.myelinating and nonmyelinating cells which ensheath large and small diameter axons, respectively. They play an important role in axon regeneration af.er injury, including cavernous nerve injury that leads to erectile dysf.nction （ED）. Despite improvement in radical prostatectomy surgical techniques, many patients still suf.er f.om ED postoperatively as surgical trauma causes traction injuries and local inf.ammatory changes in the neuronal microenvironment of.the autonomic f.bers innervating the penis resulting in pathophysiological alterations in the end organ. The aim of.this review is to summarize contemporary evidence regarding：（1） the origin and development of.SCs in the peripheral and penile nerve system; （2） Wallerian degeneration and SC plastic change f.llowing peripheral and penile nerve injury; （3） how SCs promote peripheral and penile nerve regeneration by secreting neurotrophic f.ctors; （4） and strategies targeting SCs to accelerate peripheral nerve regeneration. We searched PubMed f.r articles related to these topics in both animal models and human research and f.und numerous studies suggesting that SCs could be a novel target f.r treatment of.nerve injury-induced ED.
