Laboratory and field testing of bolting systems subjected to highly corrosive environments

The capacity of ground support components which have been affected by corrosion is reduced and may ultimately lead to dynamic failure of the component and the strata. In order to maintain an effective,long-term ground support system, significant campaigns of rehabilitation are often required in corrosion affected areas which also expose the workers to hazardous conditions. The most common corrosion protection for steel ground support utilises sacrificial systems such as galvanising. Galvanising has previously been proven to be susceptible to some corrosion processes. Stainless steel is the most effective in resistance to corrosion, but can be cost prohibitive, and its mechanical properties often make it unsuited to use in ground support components. Providing an outer protective plastic coating to bolts has proven to be an effective means of protecting the inner steel bar from corrosion. However, these support systems tend to be susceptible to coating damage, and require post cement grouting to provide full encapsulation. In comparison to a standard bolt/resin system, they can be slow to install and *** systems have also been shown to reduce overall load transfer performance of the bolting system. In order to provide a higher level of corrosion protection whilst maintaining current installation practices and bolting cycle times, Minova has developed the Enduro^(TM)steel ground support range. The Enduro^(TM) range consists of standard Minova steel ground support components which have been treated with a unique coating process. The Enduro^(TM)coating has been tested in the harshest of conditions, in laboratory controlled conditions and in underground trials. It has been proven to effectively resist or completely eliminate the formation of corrosion, even in the most aggressive environments. This paper explains the process and provides the details of the laboratory and underground corrosion performance testing carried out on Enduro^(TM)ground support product

A new 'superassemblage' model explaining proximal-to-distal and lateral facies changes in fluvial environments,based on the Proterozoic Sanjauli Formation(Lesser Himalaya,India)

Facies analysis of fluvial deposits of the Proterozoic Sanjauli Formation in the Lesser Himalaya was combined with an architectural analysis. On this basis, a model was developed that may be applied to other fluvial systems as well, whether old or recent. The new model, which might be considered as an assemblage of previous models, explains lateral variations in architecture and facies but is not in all respects consistent with the standard fluvial models. The Sanjauli fluvial model is unique in that it deals with lateral facies variations due to shifts of the base-level along with fluctuations in accommodation space owing to changes in palaeoclimate.

Diversified traffic participants and complex traffic environment(e.g.,roadblocks or road damage exist)challenge the decision-making accuracy of a single connected and autonomous vehicle(CAV)due to its limited sensing and computing *** Internet of Vehicles(IoV)to share driving rules between CAVs can break limitations of a single CAV,but at the same time may cause privacy and safety *** tackle this problem,this paper proposes to combine IoV and blockchain technologies to form an efficient and accurate autonomous guidance ***,we first use reinforcement learning for driving decision learning,and give the corresponding driving rule extraction ***,an architecture combining IoV and blockchain is designed to ensure secure driving rule ***,the shared rules will form an effective autonomous driving guidance strategy through driving rules selection and action *** simulation proves that the proposed strategy performs well in complex traffic environment,mainly in terms of accuracy,safety,and robustness.

Genetic epidemiology of primary sclerosing cholangitis

The aetiology of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is not known. A more than 80-fold increased risk of PSC among first-degree relatives emphasizes the importance of genetic factors. Genetic associations within the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) complex on chromosome 6p21 were detected in PSC 25 years ago. Subsequent studies have substantiated beyond doubt that one or more genetic variants located within this genetic region are important. The true identities of these variants,however,remain to be identified. Several candidate genes at other chromosomal loci have also been investigated. However,according to strict criteria for what may be denominated a susceptibility gene in complex diseases,no such gene exists for PSC today. This review summarises present knowledge on the genetic susceptibility to PSC,as well as genetic associations with disease progression and clinical subsets of particular interest (inflammatory bowel disease and cholangiocarcinoma).

Cardiovascular dysfunction following spinal cord injury

Both sensorimotor and autonomic dysfunctions often occur after spinal cord injury（SCI）. Particularly, a high thoracic or cervical SCI interrupts supraspinal vasomotor pathways and results in disordered hemodynamics due to deregulated sympathetic outflow. As a result of the reduced sympathetic activity, patients with SCI may experience hypotension, cardiac dysrhythmias, and hypothermia post-injury. In the chronic phase, changes within the CNS and blood vessels lead to orthostatic hypotension and life-threatening autonomic dysreflexia（AD）. AD is characterized by an episodic, massive sympathetic discharge that causes severe hypertension associated with bradycardia. The syndrome is often triggered by unpleasant visceral or sensory stimuli below the injury level. Currently the only treatments are palliative - once a stimulus elicits AD, pharmacological vasodilators are administered to help reduce the spike in arterial blood pressure. However, a more effective means would be to mitigate AD development by attenuating contributing mechanisms, such as the reorganization of intraspinal circuits below the level of injury. A better understanding of the neuropathophysiology underlying cardiovascular dysfunction after SCI is essential to better develop novel therapeutic approaches to restore hemodynamic performance.

Antibiotic use in early childhood and risk of obesity: longitudinal analysis of a national cohort

Autoantibodies in primary sclerosing cholangitis

The aetiology of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is not known and controversy exists as to whether PSC should be denominated an autoimmune disease. A large number of autoantibodies have been detected in PSC patients,but the specifi city of these antibodies is generally low,and the frequencies vary largely between different studies. The presence of autoantibodies in PSC may be the result of a nonspecifi c dysregulation of the immune system,but the literature in PSC points to the possible presence of specifi c antibody targets in the biliary epithelium and in neutrophil granulocytes. The present review aims to give an overview of the studies of autoantibodies in PSC,with a particular emphasis on the prevalence,clinical relevance and possible pathogenetic importance of each individual marker.

A pathophysiology-based approach to the management ot early priapism

Priapism is a rare condition that involves persistent penile erection for greater than 4 h. Distinct variants exist, each with unique characteristics. Ischemic priapism is a painful medical emergency that may occur as a result of veno-occlusion leading to hypoxia and tissue death. Recurrent bouts of ischemic priapism, or stuttering priapism, require treatment for individual attacks as well as long-term prevention. Non-ischemic priapism is associated with trauma and may be managed conservatively. Recent advances into the pathophysiology of priapism have allowed the development of treatment algorithms that specifically target the mechanisms involved. In this review, we outline the basics of smooth muscle contraction and describe how derangement of these pathways results in priapism. A pathophysiological approach to the treatment of priapism is proposed with duration-based algorithms presented to assist in management.
