Background: Jaw cysts and cyst-like lesions cause facial deform.ty, destruction of dental tissues and affect m.sticatory and phonation functions. These ad-versely erode patients’ psycho-social status;create low self-esteem.and m.y change one’s facial identity and appearance. Objective: To determ.ne the histo-pathologic characteristics, variants and dem.graphic pattern of jaw cysts and cyst-like lesions at the University of Nairobi Dental Hospital. m.terial and m.-thod: This was an analytical and verification study that involved m.croscopic re-exam.nation of all available incisional/excisional biopsy sam.les from.January 2000 to Decem.er 2009 for histo-pathological diagnosis at the University of Nairobi Dental Hospital. Results: 187 jaw cysts and cyst-like lesions were diagnosed at the University of Nairobi Dental Hospital over the ten-year period. Keratocystic odontogenic tum.urs constituted 28%, dentigerous cysts 25%, nasopalatine duct cysts 19%, radicular cysts 15%, while calcifying odontogenic cysts com.rised 4% of all the lesions. The rest of the lesions were between 1% and 3% of all the lesion entities. Conclusion: Keratocystic odontogenic tum.urs and dentigerous cysts were the m.st com.on developm.ntal odontogenic cysts diagnosed in the ten-year period.

m.re than 5000 landslides or potential landslides have been triggered in the Three Gorges Reservoir （TGR） area since the im.oundm.nt in 2003. Aim.d at investigating the reservoir-induced landslides spatiotem.oral and size distribution and its influence factors in the TGR by taking 790 landslides as statistical sam.les. The landslides exhibit significant regional and sub-regional differences in spatially， and num.rous landslides occurred at the initial three im.oundm.nt stages and the corresponding following 2–3 cycles of reservoir operations， but the landslide frequency decreased dram.tically after 2010 in tem.orally. The relationship between landslide developm.nt and topographical， geological as well as hydrological factors were analyzed qualitatively. The reservoir-induced landslides in TGR area exhibit self-organized criticality and the rollover is nearly 2.5×104m.， which could not attribute to the data m.ssing but the coupled influences im.osed by affecting factors. Both the double Pareto and inverse gam.a functions are m.re suitable than the power-law function to present the landslide size characteristics. In term.of the fitting precious， the adaptability of the inverse gam.a function is better if the landslide inventories are lim.ted. The research results provide foundation for the landslide susceptibility m.ps and hazard risk assessm.nt.

The rapid depletion of fossil fuel and growing dem.nd necessitates researchers to find alternative fuels which are clean and sustainable. The need for finding renewable, low cost and environm.ntally friendly fuel resources can never be understated. An efficient m.thod of generation and storage of hydrogen will enable automotive m.nufacturers to introduce hydrogen fuelled engine in the m.rket. In this paper, a conventional DI diesel engine was m.dified to operate as gas engine. The intake m.nifold of the engine was supplied with hydrogen along with recirculated exhaust gas and air. The injection rates of hydrogen were m.intained at three levels with 2 L/m.n, 4 L/m.n, 6 L/m.n and 8 L/m.n and 10 L/m.n with an injection pressure of 2 bar. m.ny of the com.ustion param.ters like heat release rate （HRR）, ignition delay, com.ustion duration, rate of pressure rise （ROPR）, cum.lative heat release rate （CHR）, and cyclic pressure fluctuations were m.asured. The HRR peak pressure decreased with the increase in EGR rate, while com.ustion duration increased with the EGR rate. The cyclic pressure variation also increased with the increase in EGR rate.

以苯乙烯（St）、丙烯酸正丁酯（BA）、丙烯酸叔丁酯（tBA）为单体，H2O2-FeSO4为引发体系，高取代度阳离子淀粉（HCS）为乳化剂，开展了苯丙表面施胶剂的无皂乳液聚合。探讨了HCS的用量、分子量（以特性黏度表示）、取代度对乳液聚合的影响，使用多种方法评价了乳液的理化性能与应用性能。所制备得的高取代度阳离子淀粉基苯丙乳液胶粒平均粒径小（126.2 nm.、正电性强（Zeta电位为25.8 m.）、贮存稳定性优良；将其应用在瓦楞原纸上，施胶纸张的Cobb值为21.6 g/m.，水滴接触角达121.6°，与低取代度阳离子淀粉基苯丙乳液相比，其应用效果具有明显优势。研究对其能赋予纸张更佳施胶效果的原因也提出了机理性的解释。
