Influence of tributaries on downstream bed sediment grain sizes under flysch conditions

Tributaries are one of the most important factors contributing to variability in the downstream evolution of bed sediment grain *** primary aim of this work is to evaluate the response of the bed sediment texture in the recipient channel induced by ten tributaries of the?ernáOstravice stream and find reach-scale and catchment-scale parameters that would be able to predict this *** research was based on collecting information on the grain size distributions at sites adjacent to confluence zones.A significant change in sediment texture occurred in the vicinity of five *** the other factors contributing to grain size variability(e.g.,local channel geometry,lithology,and lateral sediment sources),it was assumed that only four of them were associated with a sufficient bedload influx to alter the sediment calibre below the ***,a significant morphological effect in the form of a large confluence bar was observed in one *** tributaries had several common features:(i)they had a larger relative catchment area than that of nonsignificant tributaries;(ii)they were characterized by different bed grain sizes,with some exceptions;and(iii)they had a higher unit stream power close to the confluence in relation to that of the *** characteristics were represented by the proposed relative parameters,including the relative unit stream power and bed material texture,which allowed the best classification of significant and nonsignificant *** their simplified form,the parameters described the transport capacity and grain size distribution,which were generally considered to be primary factors responsible for a redefinition of the sediment texture in the recipient ***,it should be noted that these results are subject to some degree of uncertainty due to the relatively small sample size of only 10 tributaries.

Quine＇s justly famous paper ＂On What There Is＂ introduced a criterion of ontological commitment which has been almost universally accepted by analytic philosophers ever since. In this paper 1 try to unpack some of the substantive and controversial philosophical commitments that are presupposed by this criterion. The aim is not to show that the criterion is incorrect, but merely that it is not as obvious as it is taken to be by many, and that we might have reasons to explore alternative ways of thinking about ontological commitments.

In this study,the fibers of invasive species Agave americana *** Ricinus communis *** successfully used for the first time as new sources to produce cytocompatible and highly crystalline cellulose *** nanofibers were obtained by two methods,based on either alkaline or acid *** morphology,chemical composition,and crystallinity of the obtained materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(sEM)together with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX),dynamic light scattering(DLs),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)*** crystallinity indexes(CIs)of the cellulose nanofibers extracted from *** and *** were very high(94.1%and 92.7%,respectively).Biological studies evaluating the cytotoxic effects of the prepared cellulose nanofibers on human embryonic kidney 293 T(HEK293 T)cells were also *** nanofibers obtained using the two different extraction methods were all shown to be cytocompatible in the concentration range assayed(i.e.,0-500μg/mL).Our results showed that the nanocellulose extracted from *** and *** fibers has high potential as a new renewable green source of highly crystalline cellulose-based cytocompatible nanomaterials for biomedical applications.

Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PsC) is a chronic progressive inflammatory disease affecting the bile ducts, leading to f ibrosis and eventually cirrhosis in most patients. Its etiology is unknown and so far no effective medical therapy is available. Liver transplantation (LTX) is the only curative treatment and at present PsC is the main indication for LTX in the scandinavian countries. Close to half of the PsC patients experience one or more episodes of acute cellular rejection (ACR) following transplantation and approximately 1/5 of the transplanted patients develop recurrent disease in the graft. In addition, some reports indicate that ACR early after LTX for PsC can infl uence the risk for recurrent disease. For these important post-transplantation entities affecting PsC patients, we have reviewed the current literature on epidemiology, pathogenesis, treatment and the possible infl uence of rejection on the risk of recurrent disease in the allograft.

Background Virtual reality(VR)in healthcare training has increased adoption and support,but efforts are still required to mitigate usability *** This study conducted a usability study of an in-use emergency medicine VR training application,available on commercially available VR hardware and with a standard interaction *** users without prior VR experience but with relevant medical expertise completed two simulation scenarios for a total of 18 recorded *** completed NAsA Task Load Index and system Usability scale questionnaires after each session,and their performance was recorded for the tracking of user *** and Conclusions Our results showed a medium(and potentially optimal)Workload and an above average system Usability *** was significant improvement in several factors between users'first and second sessions,notably increased Performance *** errors with the strongest correlation to usability were not directly tied to interaction design,however,but to a limited'possibility space'.suggestions for closing this'gulf of execution'were presented,including'voice control'and'hand-tracking',which are only feasible for this commercial product now with the availability of the Oculus Quest ***,wider implications for VR medical training were outlined,and potential next steps towards a standardized design identified.

Genome-wide association studies (GWAs) have been applied to various gastrointestinal and liver diseases in recent years. A large number of susceptibility genes and key biological pathways in disease development have been identified. so far, studies in inflammatory bowel diseases, and in particular Crohn’s disease, have been especially successful in def ining new susceptibility loci using the GWAs design. The identification of associations related to autophagy as well as several genes involved in immunological response will be important to future research on Crohn’s disease. In this review, key methodological aspects of GWAs, the importance of proper cohort collection, genotyping issues and statistical methods are summarized. Ways of addressing the shortcomings of the GWAs design, when it comes to rare variants, are also discussed. For each of the relevant conditions, fi ndings from the various GWAs are summarized with a focus on the affected biological systems.
