Proton beam therapy (PBRT) is an essential tool in the treatment of certain ocular tumors due to its characteristic fall-off and sharp beam parameters at critical structures. Review of clinical cases in our ocular PBRT program identified patients with silicone oil used as an intraocular tamponade following pars plana vitrectomy for repair of retinal detachment. Patient’s eye may be filled with silicone oil prior to PBRT for an ocular tumor. The objective of this study was to extend our knowledge of the physical characteristics of proton beams in silicone oil by measuring dose within a silicone tank itself, hence better representing the surgical eye, as well as applying the range changes to EYEPLAN software to estimate clinical impact. The relevant proton beam physical parameters in silicone oil were studied using a 67.5 MeV un-modulated proton beam. The beam parameters being defined included: 1) residual range;2) peak/plateau ratio;3) full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the Bragg peak;and 4) distal penumbra. Initially, the dose uniformity of the proton beam was confirmed at 10 mm and 28 mm depth, corresponding to plateau and peak region of the Bragg peak using Gefchromic film. Once the beam was established as expected, three sets of measurements of the beam parameters were taken in: a) water (control);b) silicone-1000 oil and water;and c) silicone-1000 oil only. Central-axis depth-ionization measurements were performed in a tank (“main tank”) with a 0.1cc ionization chamber (Model IC-18, Far west) having walls made of Shonka A150 plastic. The tank was 92 mm (length) × 40 mm (height) × 40 mm (depth). The tank had a 0.13 mm thick kapton entrance window through which the proton beam was incident. The ionization chamber was always positioned in the center of the circular field of diameter 30 mm with the phantom surface at isocenter. Comparative quantitative analysis of fruit oil from Hippophae rhamnoides(seabuckthorn) by qNMR, FTIR and GC–MS

Objective: To develop a qNMR method for quantitative analysis of triacylglycerols in fruit oil of Hippophae rhamnoides(seabuckthorn, SBT) and analyze commercial samples of SBT oils using GC–MS and ***: SBT fruit oil(IPHRFH) was extracted with hexane and the triglyceride(TAG) was isolated by vacuum liquid chromatography. Six different branded SBT oils purchased from e-commerce suppliers(Amazon) and in-house prepared SBT oil was analyzed by qNMR and fatty acyl composition of TAGs determined by using NMR. In-house oil was also analysed by GC–MS and FTIR ***: The qNMR results showed that the oil contained 80.3% of triacylglycerol(TAG). The SBT oil TAGs comprised of linolenate 6.6%, palmitoleate/oleate 65.4%, and total saturated fatty acyl chain including palmitate 28% as determined by qNMR. GC–MS analysis revealed that the major acyl functionalities present in the TAG were palmitoleic acid 36.5%, oleic acid 12.9%, palmitic acid 21.2%, and linoleic acid 18%. Of the six commercial samples analyzed, samples from only one supplier(SW) were fruit oil;All others were the seed oils or mix of fruit oil and seed oil. The labels for samples except for the SW did not indicate whether it was fruit oil or seed ***: The results suggest that SBT oil should be analyzed by combination of GC–MS, FTIR and qNMR for factual content of free fatty acid or TAGs, which are chemically different in nature and affect the quality of oil. GC–MS showed the content of omega free fatty acids after hydrolysis, while qNMR and FTIR showed the content of TAGs. The major acyl functionalities found in SBT fruit oil TAGs are palmitoleate/palmitate/oleate, while linoleate and linonelate make up a minor fraction. Furthermore,analysis of commercial samples showed discrepancies between label claims and actual content.

General solution of normal equations in the general intra-block analysis of partially balanced incomplete block designs involving four associates is presented in this talk as they are quite useful in practice. Only intra-block estimates are given as the necessary formulae for inter-block estimates can be derived from them by changing the parameters as discussed in Rao[5]. We have obtained the general formulae for computation of four types of efficiencies, the average efficiency factor and the variance of the estimated elementary treatment contrast of the four types of comparisons irrespective of the type of association scheme a PBIB Design follows.

Since 1978, the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Ocular Tumor Program has been using particle therapy for treating ocular patients with malignant as well as benign eye disease. Helium ion beams were used initially and were produced by two synchrotron-based systems: first by the 184-inch synchro-cyclotron and later by the Bevalac, at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). Since 1994, protons, produced by a cyclotron-based system at the Crocker Nuclear Laboratory (CNL) Eye Treatment Facility (ETF), have been used for this purpose. The CNL cyclotron produces a 67.5 MeV beam, allowing for a uniquely homogeneous beam for eye treatment, without degradation of the beam or manipulation of the beam line. This paper describes, in detail, the control system for beam delivery, as implemented for measuring and delivering the radiation to ocular tumors at CNL. The control system allows for optimal delivery and rapid termination of the irradiation after the desired dose is achieved. In addition, several safeguard systems are discussed, as these are essential for such a system in the event of failure of software, electronics, or other hardware. The QA analysis shows that the total range of the proton beam is 30.7 ± 1.0 mm in water at iso-center. The beam distal penumbra (80% - 20%) is 1.1 mm for a range-modulated beam at a collimator to iso-center distance of 50 mm. Daily QA checks confirm that the range and modulation is within 0.1 mm. The beam flatness and symmetry in a 25 mm diameter beam are ±1% - 2%. Variation in the daily dosimetry system, as compared to standard dosimetry, is within ±3.5%, with a mean variation of 0.72(±1.9)% and 0.85(±2.3)% for segmented transmission ionization chambers IC1 (upstream) and IC2 (downstream), respectively. From May 1994 to the end of 2015, UCSF has treated 1838 proton ocular patients at the Davis ETF. During this period, no treatments were missed due to any cyclotron or control system failures. Plant growth hormone BAP (benzyl amino purine), kIN (kinetin), NAA (1-naphthalene acetic acid) and IBA (indole-3 butyric acid) effect was studied on in vitro multiplication of shoots and rooting of Drepanostachyum falcatum. In vitro micropropagation of himalayan weeping bamboo is explained by in vitro shoot induction and proliferation. Excised explant with axillary bud is surface sterilized with 0.1% HgCl2 for 10 - 12 minutes, cleaned with 90% ethanol and inoculated on liquid Murashige and Skoog (MS) culture medium supplemented with different concentrations of BAP/ kIN. Effect of BAP/kIN on shoot induction is with different rate and number of shoots produced by explants with axillary bud cultured on MS media supplemented with 0.0 mg/L BAP/kIN - 5.5 mg/L BAP/kIN. Shoot multiplication with highest rate is achieved on MS medium supplemented with 3.5 mg/L BAP after 4th sub-culturing. The most effective with highest rate and number of root induction combination is 6.5 mg/L IBA after 5 weeks. The roots produced by 6.5 mg/L IBA is best compared with other combination of auxin NAA (1-naphthalene acetic acid).

Aurora kinases play an important role in the cell cycle. These enzymes help establish mitotic spindles by directing centrosome duplication and separation and by regulating the spindle assembly checkpoint thereby helping control cytokinesis. An over-expression of aurora kinases has been reported in a variety of human tumors. In this study, we identified the expression of aurora-A and aurora-B kinases in canine malignant lymphoid cells. We also evaluated the effects of the aurora kinase inhibitor (ZM447439), and found that this inhibitor decreases cell viability, increases DNA content change, and leads to apoptosis in canine B- and T-cell lymphoid cell lines. The lymphotoxicity induced by ZM447439 in these canine lymphoid cell lines suggests that further in vivo evaluation of aurora kinase inhibitors as a potential treatment for canine malignant lymphoid tumors is warranted.

Giant Loose Body of knee Joint Presenting as Accessory Patella<br/>—A Case Report

Loose bodies are freely floating fragments of cartilage or bone inside the knee joint space. This is commonly seen in association with degenerative joint disease (DJD), direct or indirect trauma, synovial chondromatosis, osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) and size of the loose body may vary from few millimeters to few centimeters. Patients with loose bodies in knee joint presented to orthopaedists with knee pain, swelling and restricted movement, with intermittent locking or catching of the joint. This is managed surgically most of the times when it becomes symptomatic. The surgical technique most commonly utilized is arthroscopy. Open arthrotomy should be done when the loose bodies are very large/numerous/located in posterior joint space. In review of literature, we found very few cases of giant loose body in knee joint due to DJD reported in last 70 years. We are hereby reporting our case of 60-year-old male with a giant loose body of same size as of patella in the supra-patellar pouch of left knee joint and managed by arthrotomy to remove the giant loose body. Post-operatively patient recovered significantly over the period of 6-week follow-up. In conclusion, giant loose body should be removed through arthrotomy and all such cases should be thoroughly evaluated to diagnose the cause of giant loose body.
