Seasonal prediction of extreme high-temperature days over the Yangtze River basin

Extreme high temperatures occur frequently over the densely populated Yangtze River basin(YRB)in China during summer,significantly impacting the local economic development and ecological system.However,accurate prediction of extreme high-temperature days in this region remains a challenge.Unfortunately,the Climate Forecast System Version 2(CFSv2)exhibits poor performance in this regard.Thus,based on the interannual increment approach,we develop a hybrid seasonal prediction model over the YRB(HM_(YRB))to improve the prediction of extreme high-temperature days in summer.The HM_(YRB)relies on the following four predictors:the observed preceding April-May snowmelt in north western Europe;the snow depth in March over the central Siberian Plateau;the CFSv2-forecasted concurrent summer sea surface temperatures around the Maritime Continent;and the 200-hPa geopotential height over the Tibetan Plateau.The HM_(YRB)indicates good capabilities in predicting the interannual variability and trend of extreme high-temperature days,with a markable correlation coefficient of 0.58 and a percentage of the same sign(PSS)of 76% during 1983-2015 in the one-year-out cross-validation.Additionally,the HM_(YRB) maintains high PSS skill(86%)and robustness in the independent prediction period(2016-2022).Furthermore,the HM_(YRB) shows a good performance for years with high occurrence of extreme high-temperature days,with a hit ratio of 40%.These predictors used in HM_(YRB)are beneficial in terms of the prediction skill for the average daily maximum temperature in summer over the YRB,albeit with biases existing in the magnitude.Our study provides promising insights into the prediction of 2022-like hot extremes over the YRB in China.

In this letter,high power density AlGaN/GaN high electron-mobility transistors(HEMTs)on a freestanding GaN substrate are reported.An asymmetricΓ-shaped 500-nm gate with a field plate of 650 nm is introduced to improve microwave power performance.The breakdown voltage(BV)is increased to more than 200 V for the fabricated device with gate-to-source and gate-to-drain distances of 1.08 and 2.92μm.A record continuous-wave power density of 11.2 W/mm@10 GHz is realized with a drain bias of 70 V.The maximum oscillation frequency(f_(max))and unity current gain cut-off frequency(f_(t))of the AlGaN/GaN HEMTs exceed 30 and 20 GHz,respectively.The results demonstrate the potential of AlGaN/GaN HEMTs on freestanding GaN substrates for microwave power applications.

Aqueous sodium-ion batteries are known for poor rechargeability because of the competitive water decomposition reactions and the high electrode solubility.Improvements have been reported by saltconcentrated and organic-hybridized electrolyte designs,however,at the expense of cost and safety.Here,we report the prolonged cycling of ASIBs in routine dilute electrolytes by employing artificial electrode coatings consisting of NaX zeolite and NaOH-neutralized perfluorinated sulfonic polymer.The as-formed composite interphase exhibits a molecularsieving effect jointly played by zeolite channels and size-shrunken ionic domains in the polymer matrix,which enables high rejection of hydrated Na^(+)ions while allowing fast dehydrated Na^(+)permeance.Applying this coating to electrode surfaces expands the electrochemical window of a practically feasible 2 mol kg^(-1) sodium trifluoromethanesulfonate aqueous electrolyte to 2.70 V and affords Na_(2)MnFe(CN)_(6)//NaTi_(2)(PO_(4))_(3) full cells with an unprecedented cycling stability of 94.9%capacity retention after 200 cycles at 1 C.Combined with emerging electrolyte modifications,this molecular-sieving interphase brings amplified benefits in long-term operation of ASIBs.

Bacillus anthracis lethal toxin(LT)is a determinant of lethal anthrax.Its function in myeloid cells is required for bacterial dissemination,and LT itself can directly trigger dysfunction of the cardiovascular system.The interplay between LT and the host responses is important in the pathogenesis,but our knowledge on this interplay remains limited.Tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a)is a pleiotropic pro-inflammatory cytokine induced by bacterial infections.Since LT accumulates and cytokines,predominantly TNF,amass during B.anthracis infection,co-treatment of TNF+LT in mice was used to mimic in vivo conditions for LT to function in inflamed hosts.Bone marrow transplantation and genetically engineered mice showed unexpectedly that the death of intestinal epithelial cells(IECs)rather than that of hematopoietic cells led to LT+TNF-induced lethality.Inhibition of p38a mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)signaling by LT in IECs promoted TNF-induced apoptosis and necroptosis of IECs,leading to intestinal damage and mouse death.Consistently,p38a inhibition by LT enhanced TNF-mediated cell death in human colon epithelial HT-29 cells.As intestinal damage is one of the leading causes of lethality in anthrax patients,the IEC damage caused by LT+TNF would most likely be a mechanism underneath this clinical manifestation and could be a target for interventions.

Hydrothermally stable metal oxide-zeolite composite catalysts for low-temperature NO_(x) reduction with improved N_(2) selectivity

Development of hydrothermally stable,low-temperature catalysts for controlling nitrogen oxides emissions from mobile sources remains an urgent challenge.We have prepared a metal oxide-zeolite composite catalyst by depositing Mn active species on a mixture support of CeO_(2)/Al_(2)O_(3) and ZSM-5.This composite catalyst is hydrothermally stable and shows improved low-temperature SCR activity and significantly reduced N_(2)O formation than the corresponding metal oxide catalyst.Comparing with a Cu-CHA catalyst,the composite catalyst has a faster response to NH_(3) injection and less NH_(3) slip.Our characterization results reveal that such an oxide-zeolite composite catalyst contains more acidic sites and Mn^(3+)species as a result of oxide-zeolite interaction,and this interaction leads to the generation of more NH_(4)^(+)species bound to the Br?nsted acid sites and more reactive NOxspecies absorbed on the Mn sites.Herein,we report our mechanistic understanding of the oxide-zeolite composite catalyst and its molecular pathway for improving the low-temperature activity and N_(2) selectivity for NH_(3)-SCR reaction.Practically,this work may provide an alternative methodology for low-temperature NO_(x) control from diesel vehicles.

Context-aware API recommendation using tensor factorization

An activity constantly engaged by most programmers in coding is to search for appropriate application programming interfaces(APIs). Contextual information is widely recognized to play a crucial role in effective API recommendation, but it is largely overlooked in practice. In this paper, we propose contextaware API recommendation using tensor factorization(CARTF), a novel API recommendation approach in considering programmers’ working context. To this end, we use tensors to explicitly represent the queryAPI-context triadic relation. When a new query is made, CARTF harnesses word embeddings to retrieve similar user queries, based on which a third-order tensor is constructed. CARTF then applies non-negative tensor factorization to complete missing values in the tensor and the Smith-Waterman algorithm to identify the most matched context. Finally, the ranking of the candidate APIs can be derived based on which API sequences are recommended. Our evaluation confirms the effectiveness of CARTF for class-level and method-level API recommendations, outperforming state-of-the-art baseline approaches against a number of performance metrics, including SuccessRate, Precision, and Recall.

Carbon monoxide(CO)is primarily the result of incomplete combustion,which has impor-tant impacts on the atmospheric chemical cycle and climate.Improved quantitative char-acterization of long-term CO trends is important for both atmospheric modeling and the design and implementation of policies to efficiently control multiple pollutants.Due to the limitations of high time-resolution and high-quality long-term observational data,studies on long-term trends in the CO concentration in China are quite limited.In this study,the observational data of the concentration of CO in a rural site of Beijing during 2006-2018 was used to analyze the long-term trend in CO concentration in Beijing.The Theil-Sen method and the generalized additive model(GAM)-based method,were used to conduct the trend estimation analysis.We found that the concentration of CO at the Shangdianzi site showed a significant downward trend during 2006-2018,with a decline rate of 22.8±5.1 ppbV per year.The declining trend in CO also showed phasic characteristics,with a fast decreasing rate during the period of 2006-2008,stable variations during the period of 2009-2013 and a continuous downward trend after 2013.The declining trend in the CO concentration in the south to west(S-W)sectors where the polluted air masses come from is more rapid than that in the sectors where the clean air masses come from.The declining trend in the CO concentration implies the improved combustion efficiency and the successful air pollution control policies in Beijing and the surrounding area.

The analytical performance of H+-selective solid-contact ion-selective electrodes(SCISEs)based on solid contact polyaniline doped with chloride(PANI(Cl))and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)doped with poly(styrene sulfonate)(PEDOT(PSS))was characterized by a developed coulometric signal transduction method.PEDOT(PSS)solid contact is covered by PVC based H+-selective membrane.The obtained coulometric signal demonstrates that the cumulated charge can be amplified by increasing the capacitance of solid contact.SCISEs covered with spin-coated membrane behave faster amperometric response than electrodes with drop-cast mem-brane.In contrast to earlier works,the amperometric response and impedance spectrum demonstrates H+transfer through SCISEs is independent from the thickness of membrane.The exceptional behavior of PANI(Cl)H+-SCISEs shows that the capacitance estimated from impedance spectrum at low frequency 10 mHz and coulometric signal of PANI(Cl)based SCISEs is influenced by the applied po-tentials,whereas PEDOT(PSS)solid contact is independent from the chosen applied potentials.Furthermore,preliminary investiga-tions of coulometric signal transduction on flexible pH sensor implies its potential applications in wearable sensors for sweat ion concentration detection.
