Background：To study lesions＇ location and prognosis of cubital tunnel syndrome （CubTS） by routine motor nerve conduction studies （MNCSs） and short-segment nerve conduction studies （SSNCSs,inching test）.Methods：Thirty healthy subjects were included and 60 ulnar nerves were studied by inching studies for normal ***-six patients who diagnosed CubTS clinically were performed bilaterally by routine MNCSs and ***-up for 1-year,the information of brief complaints,clinical symptoms,and physical examination were ***：Sixty-six patients were included,88 of nerves was abnormal by MNCS,while 105 was abnormal by the inching *** epicondyle to 2 cm above medial epicondyle is the most common segment to be detected abnormally （59.09％）,P ＜ ***-two patients were followed-up,17 patients＇ symptoms were *** of the patients were treated with drugs and modification of bad ***：（1） SSNCSs can detect lesions of compressive neuropathy in CubTS more precisely than the routine motor conduction studies.（2） SSNCSs can diagnose CubTS more sensitively than routine motor conduction studies.（3） In this study,we found that medial epicondyle to 2 cm above the medial epicondyle is the most vulnerable place that the ulnar nerve compressed.（4） The patients had a better prognosis who were abnormal in motor nerve conduction time only,but not amplitude in compressed lesions than those who were abnormal both in velocity and *** study suggests that SSNCSs is a practical method in detecting ulnar nerve compressed neuropathy,and sensitive in diagnosing *** compound muscle action potentials by SSNCSs may predict prognosis of CubTS.

The nutritional physiology of the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella, larvae was examined after parasitization by the solitary endoparasitoids Cotesia vestalis or Diadegma semiclausum. Examinations were performed in two phases, one was examined at the time point of 24 h post-parasitization, and the other was done at the end of the 4th instar larvae of host. Rates of growth, food consumption, assimilation, excretion, and respiration were calculated as well as approximate digestibility and the rate ratios ECI （percent efficiency of conversion of ingested food to body substance）, and ECD （percent efficiency of conversion of digested food to body substance）. Parasitization by C. vestalis resulted in significant decrease in the rates of growth, feeding, excretion, assimilation, and respiration, but the final dry rate of respiration at the end of last larval stadium was elevated. The ECI and ECD were also reduced as the result of parasitization, but digestibility was increased. All these parameters in the larvae parasitized by D. semiclausum at 24 h post-parasitization were also significantly changed compared to the control; however, these differences were quantitatively, but not qualitatively before pupation, similar to those resulted from parasitization by C. vestalis. In spite of the similarities of the parasitism-induced effects caused by these endoparasitoids, the final metabolic rate, that is, the rate of intake of nutrients required to compensate for metabolism, was much lower in the larvae parasitized by C. vestalis than that of the larvae parasitized by D. semiclausum. All of the results discussed here will contribute toward explaining the different ways these two wasps regulate the parasitoid-host relationship.

The dispersal of many plants depends on transportation by birds as seed dispersers. The birds play an important role in long distance seed dispersal and may also affect seed germination. However, for plants who have many bird dispersers, the influence of dominant and non-dominant dispersers on retention time （dispersal distance） and germination remains poorly understood. In this study we performed experiments with captive frugivorous birds and fruiting plant species to study the effects of dominant and non-dominant dispersers on seed retention time （SRT） and germination （seed germination percentage and germination speed）. Our study showed a great interspecific variation in the effects of frugivorous birds on both SRT and germination. Some birds enhance the germination of a given plant species, but others do not. Generally, the dominant visitors improved the seed germination and performed longer seed retention time.

Background An accelerated muscle wasting was the pivotal factor for protein-energy wasting in end stage renal disease. However, very few researches have examined the skeletal muscle quantity and quality in clinical patients. This study investigated the muscle morphologic changes by magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） and analyzed the related factors in hemodialysis patients. Methods Fifty-eight patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis （HD） were investigated and 28 healthy adults with gender and age matched were used as controls （Control）. Anthropometry, cytokine factors, and laboratory data were measured. The muscle and intermuscular adipose tissues （IMAT） were analyzed via a Thigh MRI. The bicep samples were observed after HE staining. Homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance （HOMA-IR） was measured and their association with muscle wasting was analyzed. Results HD patients tended to have a lower protein diet, anthropometry data, and serum albumin, but the C reactive protein and interleukin-6 increased significantly. The MRI showed that HD patients had less muscle mass and a lower muscle/total ratio, but the fat/muscle and IMAT was higher when compared to the Control group. The muscle fiber showed atrophy and fat accumulation in the biceps samples come from the HD patients. Moreover, we found that the HD patients presented with a high level of plasma fasting insulin and increased HOMA-IR which negatively correlated with the muscle/ total ratio, but positively with the fat/muscle ratio. Conclusions Muscle wasting presented early before an obvious malnutrition condition emerged in HD patients. The main morphological change was muscle atrophy along with intermuscular lipid accumulation. Insulin resistance was associated with muscle wasting in dialysis patients.

With the increase of elderly population, more and more implant operations need to be performed in osteoporotic bone, while different forms of microdamage will be produced in peri-implant bone intraoperatively, including high- and low-density diffuse damages, as well as linear cracks. The length and location of the microcracks are the main factors in affecting the biomechanical performance of bone. Suppression of bone remodeling by bisphosphonates may lead to microdamage accumulation, which is often accompanied with the decrease of bonestrength and the increase of bone fragility. Microdamage can be repaired by bone remodeling or mineralization to maintain the strength and structural integrity. Both remodeling and mineralization can affect the bone quality and long-term implant stability, In this paper, we make a brief summary of some important issues and research progresses in this field.

The scientific field test site of rainfall-soil moisture-groundwater conversion in Dabie Mountain Area–Jianghan Plain is located in the northern region of the Jianghan Plain,the transition zone between the Dabie Mountain Area and Jianghan ***’s a great field test site to study the material and energy exchange among rainfall,soil moisture,and groundwater of the Earth’s critical zone in subtropical monsoon climate plain *** paper analyzed the connection between rainfall and volume water content(VWC)of soil at different depths of several soil profiles,and the dynamic feature of groundwater was discussed,which reveals the rainfall infiltration recharge of Quaternary Upper Pleistocene *** results show that the Quaternary Upper Pleistocene aquifer groundwater accepts a little direct rainfall recharge,while the lateral recharge is the main supplement *** were 75 effective rainfall events among 120 rainfall events during the monitoring period,with an accumulated amount of 672.9 mm,and the percentages of effective rainfall amount and duration time were 62.50%and 91.56%,*** max evaporation depth at the upper part in Quaternary cohesive soil was no less than 1.4 *** soil profile was divided into four zones:(1)The sensitive zone of rainfall infiltration within 1.4 m,where the material and energy exchange frequently near the interface between atmosphere and soil;(2)the buffer zone of rainfall infiltration between 1.4 m and 3.5 m;(3)the migration zone of rainfall infiltration between 3.5 m and 5.0 m;and(4)the rainfall infiltration and groundwater level co-influenced zone below 5.0 *** results revealed the reaction of soil moisture and groundwater to rainfall in the area covered by cohesive soil under humid climate in Earth’s critical zone,which is of great theoretical and practical significance for groundwater resources evaluation and development,groundwater environmental protection,ecological environmental improvement,drought disaster
