Sub-lines are one-dimensional diffraction patterns representing the light beams emerging from horizontal planes of an object image. Past research has demonstrated that the sub-lines can be encapsulated as a multi-bank filtering process, and implemented with a field programmable gate array （FPGA） device. As the complexity of the filters is high, their length and the number of input pins have to be reduced substantially, hence leading to degradation on the reconstructed images. We propose an enhanced method to overcome the problem by binarizing the filters＇ coefficients, and half-toning the pixel intensities of the object image. Experimental evaluation reveals that our method results in reconstructed images are superior to that obtained with the parent method.

We investigated the cardiovascular thrombotic risk after surgical castration （SC） versus genadotmpin-releasing hormone agonists （GnRHa） in Chinese men with prostate cancer. All Chinese prostate cancer patients who were treated with SC or GnRHa from year 2000 to 2009 were reviewed and compared. The primary outcome was any new-onset of cardiovascular thrombotic events after SC or GnRHa, which was defined as any event of acute myocardial infarction or ischemic stroke. The risk of new-onset cardiovascular thrombotic event was compared between the SC group and the GnRHa group using Kaplan-Meier method. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was performed to adjust for other potential confounding factors. A total of 684 Chinese patients was included in our study, including 387 patients in the SC group and 297 patients in the GnRHa group. The mean age in the SC group （75.3 ~ 7.5 years） was significantly higher than the GnRHa group （71.8 ~ 8.3 years）（P 〈 0.001）. There was increased risk of new cardiovascular thrombotic events in the SC group when compared to the GnRHa group upon Kaplan-Meier analysis （P= 0.014）. Upon multivariate Cox regression analysis, age （hazard ratio [HR] 1.072, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.04-1.11, P 〈 0.001）, hyperlipidemia （HR 2.455, 95% Cl 1.53-3.93, P 〈 0.001）, and SC （HR 1.648, 95% CI 1.05-2.59, P = 0.031） were significant risk factors of cardiovascular thrombotic events. In conclusion, SC was associated with increased risk of cardiovascular thrombotic events when compared to GnRHa. This is an important aspect to consider while deciding on the method of androgen deprivation therapy, especially in elderly men with known history of hyperlipidemia.

AIM： To investigate the correlation between tissue ST6Gal I and serum msAFP in HCC patients, and to investigate their prognostic significance. METHODS： Preoperative sera, paired tumorous and non-tumorous tissues were collected from 19 consecutive patients who had undergone surgical resection of HCC. ST6Gal I activities in the tissues were measured by an in vitro microsomal enzyme activity assay. The percentages of tumor-specific msAFP in the sera were also estimated by an isoelectric focusing-immunoblotting assay. RESULTS： The tumor ST6Gal I activity was negatively correlated with serum msAFP percentage （r = -0.53, P = 0.019）. Both decreased tumor ST6Gal I activity and increased serum msAFP percentage were associated with poor tumor cell differentiation. Univariate analyses showed that both decreased tumor ST6Gal I activity （P = 0.028）, increased serum msAFP percentage （P = 0.034） and poor tumor cell differentiation （P = 0.031）were associated with shorter overall survival. Multivariate analysis using the Cox regression model showed that the preoperative serum msAFP percentage （P = 0.022） and tumor cell differentiation status （P = 0.048） were independent prognostic indicators for patient overall survival. CONCLUSION： Our results indicate that the presence of msAFP in blood circulation is associated with a decreased activity of ST6Gal I activity in HCC. Both tissue ST6Gal I and serum msAFP are potential prognostic markers for patients with operable HCC.

＜正＞This study attempts to improve the properties of recycled concrete aggregates（RCA）.It reports on the influence of polyvinyl alcohol（PVA）improved RCA（PI-RCA）on the strength development and durability properties of *** this study,the experimental investigation was conducted in two ***,the RCA was improved by treatment with a solufion of 10% PVA and the properties including density,10% fine value,impact value and water absorption of the RCA were ***,the fresh properties,such as slump,slump loss,and hardened properties including compressive and tensile splitting strength,drying shrinkage and chloride penetrability of the concretes prepared at a water-to-cement（W/C）ratio of 0.50 were *** is found that the density,impact value and 10% fine value of PI-RCA was higher,and the water absorption of the PI-RCA was lower when compared with RCA without PVA ***, the mechanical properties of the concrete made with PI-RCA were improved,and PI-RCA decreased the drying shrinkage and increased the resistance to chloride ion penetration of the concrete.
