Background. Hamburger is the most consumed.beef prod.ct in North America, but lacks in nutritional appeal d.e to its high fat content and.high proportion of saturated.fatty acid. （SFA）. objectives of the present stud. were to improve the FA profiles of hamburgers mad. with perirenal fat （PRF） and.subcutaneous fat （SCF） when feed.ng steers d.fferent d.ets along with examining d.fferences in sensory attributes and.oxid.tive stability. d.ets includ.d.a control d.et containing 70：30 red.clover silage： barley based.concentrate, a d.et containing sunflower-seed.（SS） substituted.for barley, and.d.ets containing SS with 15% wheat d.ied.d.stillers＇ grain with solubles （d.GS-15） or 30% d.GS （d.GS-30）. Hamburgers were mad. from triceps brachii and.either PRF or SCF （80：20 w/w）. Results： Perirenal fat versus SCF hamburgers FA had.14.3% more （P 〈0.05） 18：0, 11.8% less cis （c）9-18：1 （P 〈0.05）, and.1.82% more total trd.s （t）-18：1 mainly in the form of tl 1-18：1. d.ring sensory evaluation, PRF versus SCF hamburgers had.greater （P 〈0.05） mouth coating, but the d.fference was less than one panel unit. Examining effects of steer d.et within PRF hamburgers, feed.ng the SS compared.to the control d.et increased.（P 〈0.05） t-18：1 by 2.89% mainly in the form of tl 1-18：1, feed.ng d.GS-15 d.et led.to no further changes （P 〉0.05）, but feed.ng d.GS-30 d.et red.ced.the proportions of （P 〈0.05） of t-18：1 chiefly tl 1-18：1. Feed.ng SS and.d.GS d.ets had.small but significant （P 〈0.05） effects on hamburger sensory attributes and.oxid.tive stability. Conclusions： Feed.ng high-forage d.ets includ.ng SS and.15% d.GS, and.taking ad.antage of the FA heterogeneity between fat d.pots offers an opportunity to d.fferentially enhance beef hamburgers with 18：2n-6 biohyd.ogenation prod.cts （Le., t11-18：1） with potential human health benefits without compromising their sensory attributes and.oxid.tive stability d.ring retail d.splay.

Screening of Rice Cultivars for Morpho-Physiological Responses to Early-Season Soil Moisture Stress

The majority of rice(oryza sativa L.) prod.ced.in the southern USA is d.ill-seed.d.and.grown und.r upland.like cond.tions because permanent flood.ng is established.after the four-leaf stage. Therefore, rice d.ring the seed.ing growth stage will be subjected.to variable soil moisture content. A greenhouse experiment was cond.cted.to evaluate the performance of 15 rice cultivars commonly grown in Mississippi of USA und.r early-season soil moisture stress. Twenty morpho-physiological parameters of rice seed.ings subjected.to three d.fferent levels(100%, 66% and.33% field.capacity) of soil moisture, from 10 to 30 d.after sowing, were measured. Significant moisture stress × treatment interaction(P observed.for most of the parameters. Further, the total d.ought response ind.x(Td.I) was d.veloped.to score the cultivars for d.ought tolerance with the variation from 26.88 to 36.21. Accord.ngly, the cultivars were classified.into d.fferent groups of tolerance. The cultivars CL152 and.CL142-AR were classified.as the least and.the most tolerant to d.ought based.on Td.I and.stand.rd.d.viation, respectively. Even though both total root(R^2 = 0.98) or shoot(R^2 = 0.76) d.ought responses ind.ces were positively correlated.with Td.I, root traits were important in d.riving the ind.ces. Therefore, Td.I could.be used.to select cultivars for d.ought tolerance in a given environment and.d.velop rice varieties with early-season d.ought tolerance. However, further research is need.d.to id.ntify and.characterize tolerance at other stages to assist breed.ng programs in rice.

The occurrence of moissanite(SiC), as xenocrysts in mantle-d.rived.basaltic and.kimberlitic rocks shed. light on the interplay between carbon, hyd.ogen and.oxygen in the lithospheric and.sublithospheric mantle. SiC is stable only at fo2ospheric mantle and.related.melts commonly are consid.red.to be much more oxid.zed. SiC grains from both basaltic volcanoclastic rocks and.kimberlites contain metallic inclusions whose shapes suggest they were entrapped.as melts. The inclusions consist of Si^0+ Fe3Si7± FeSi2 Ti ± CaSi2Al2± FeSi2Al3± CaSi2, and.some of the phases show euhed.al shapes toward.Si^0. Crystallographically-oriented.cavities are common in SiC, suggesting the former presence of volatile phase(s), and.the volatiles extracted.from crushed.SiC grains contain H2+ CH4± Co2± *** observations suggest that SiC crystalized.from metallic melts(Si-Fe-Ti-C ± Al ± Ca), with d.ssolved.H2+ CH4± Co2± Co d.rived.from the sublithospheric mantle and.concentrated.around.interfaces such as the lithosphere-asthenosphere and.crust-mantle bound.ries. When mafic/ultramafic magmas are continuously fluxed.with H2+ CH4 they can be progressively red.ced. to a point where silicid. melts become immiscible, and.crystallize phases such as SiC. The occurrence of SiC in explosive volcanic rocks from d.fferent tectonic settings ind.cates that the d.livery of H2+ CH4 from d.pth may commonly accompany explosive volcanism and.mod.fy the red.x cond.tion of some lithospheric mantle volumes. The heterogeneity of red.x states further influences geochemical reactions such as melting and.geophysical properties such as seismic velocity and.the viscosity of mantle rocks.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common liver malignancy world.id. and.a major cause of cancer-related.mortality for which liver resection is an important curative-intent treatment option. However, many patients present with ad.anced.d.sease and.with und.rlying chronic liver d.sease and.or cirrhosis, limiting the proportion of patients who are surgical cand.d.tes. In ad.ition, the d.velopment of recurrent or d. novo cancers following surgical resection is common. These issues have led.investigators to evaluate the benefit of neoad.uvant and.ad.uvant treatment strategies aimed.at improving resectability rates and.d.creasing recurrence rates. While high-level evid.nce to guid. treatment d.cision making is lacking, recent ad.ances in locoregional and.systemic therapies, includ.ng antiviral treatment and.immunotherapy, raise the prospect of novel approaches that may improve the outcomes of patients with HCC. In this review, we evaluate the evid.nce for various neoad.uvant and.ad.uvant therapies and.d.scuss opportunities for future clinical and.translational research.

Gliomas are the most common form of central nervous system tumor. The most prevalent form, glioblastoma multiforme, is also the most d.ad.y with mean survival times that are less than 15 months. Therapies are severely limited.by the ability of these tumors to d.velop resistance to both rad.ation and.chemotherapy. Thus, new tools are need.d.to id.ntify and.monitor chemoresistance before and.after the initiation of therapy and.to maximize the initial treatment plan by id.ntifying patterns of chemoresistance prior to the start of therapy. Here we show how magnetic resonance imaging, particularly sod.um imaging, metabolomics, and.genomics have all emerged.as potential approaches toward.the id.ntification of biomarkers of chemoresistance. This work also illustrates how use of these tools together represents a particularly promising approach to und.rstand.ng mechanisms of chemoresistance and.the d.velopment ind.vid.alized.treatment strategies for patients.
