In this work,impact of low level of uranium(U)atom substitution on thermal cond.ctivity of thorium d.oxid.(ThO_(2))is ***_(2)is an electronic insulator with a wid. optical band.gap and.no unpaired.electrons whose thermal transport is governed.by phonons.U-substitution introd.ces unpaired.f-electrons resulting in paramagnetic behavior of UeThO_(2)at room temperature,which significantly suppresses its thermal cond.ctivity.A single crystal of UeThO_(2)with grad.d.composition of U is grown using a hyd.othermal synthesis method.and.thermal cond.ctivity measurements are performed.in re-gions with uniform composition of U at levels of 0%,6%,9%and.16%.Measured.thermal cond.ctivity profiles over 77e300 K temperature range are analyzed.using an analytical expression for phonon-med.ated.thermal transport based.on Klemens-Callaway *** d.pend.nt thermal con-d.ctivity is found.to d.viate significantly from the Rayleigh scattering trend.expected.for a simple substitutional point d.fect with a small perturbation to mass and.interatomic *** the resonant scattering term,observed.large suppression of thermal cond.ctivity at low temperatures can be closely ***,the extracted.phonon-spin coupling constants imply a nonlinear relation of phonon-spin interaction intensity with respect to U d.ping *** stud. reveals how phonon-spin scattering contributed.by unpaired.f-electrons in U atoms influences thermal transport in the UeThO_(2)system.

A prototype climate service was d.veloped.and.trialled.in early 2019 to provid. seasonal forecast of the June–July–August(JJA) tropical cyclone(TC) land.all risk for the East China region ahead.of the forthcoming typhoon *** forecasts were prod.ced.in both March and.April 2019 and.a final forecast was released.to the China Meteorological Ad.inistration(CMA) on 1 May 2019. The trial service was prod.ced.by using the Met Office Global Seasonal forecast system(GloSea5), and.a forecast of the western Pacific subtropical high(WPSH) ind.x was used.to infer the TC land.all risk based.on a simple linear regression between historical mod.l WPSH ind.ces and.observed.TC land.alls in East China. The forecast method.shows significant skill for forecasting the JJA TC land.all risk in East China with up to three-month lead.time, with the greatest skill for pred.ctions initialized.in May. The 2019 forecast provid.d.good.guid.nce of the near-average TC activity observed.in East China in JJA 2019. Success of the forecast ad.s confid.nce to an improved.climate service ahead.of the 2020 typhoon season.
