Hip Fracture risk Assessment Based on Different Failure Criteria Using QCT-Based Finite Element Modeling

Precise evaluation of hip fracture risk leads to reduce hip fracture occurrence in individuals and assist to check the effect of a treatment.A subject-specific QCT-based finite element model is introduced to evaluate hip fracture risk using the strain energy,von-Mises stress,and von-Mises strain criteria during the single-leg stance and the sideways fall *** a proper failure criterion in hip fracture risk assessment is very *** aim of this study is to define hip fracture risk index using the strain energy,von Mises stress,and von Mises strain criteria and compare the calculated fracture risk indices using these criteria at the critical regions of the *** is found that based on these criteria,the hip fracture risk at the femoral neck and the intertrochanteric region is higher than other parts of the femur,probably due to the larger amount of cancellous bone in these *** study results also show that the strain energy criterion gives more reasonable assessment of hip fracture risk based on the bone failure mechanism and the von-Mises strain criterion is more conservative than two other criteria and leads to higher estimate of hip fracture risk indices.

Shear stress distribution prediction in open channels is of utmost importance in hydraulic structural engineering as it directly affects the design of stable *** this study,at first,a series of experimental tests were conducted to assess the shear stress distribution in prismatic compound *** shear stress values around the whole wetted perimeter were measured in the compound channel with different floodplain widths also in different flow depths in subcritical and supercritical conditions.A set of,data mining and machine learning algorithms including random Forest(rF),M5P,random Committee,KStar and Additive regression implemented on attained data to predict the shear stress distribution in the compound *** indicated among these five models;rF method indicated the most precise results with the highest r2 value of ***,the most powerful data mining method which studied in this research compared with two well-known analytical models of Shiono and Knight method(SKM)and Shannon method to acquire the proposed model functioning in predicting the shear stress *** results showed that the rF model has the best prediction performance compared to SKM and Shannon models.

Cellular pathways are ordinarily diagnosed with pathway inhibitors,related gene regulation,or fuorescent protein *** are also suggested to be diagnosed with pathway activation modulation of photobiomod ulation(PBM)in this paper.A PBM on a biosystem function depends on whether the biosystem is in its function-specific homeostasis(FSH).An FSH,a negative feedback response for the function to be performed perfectly,is maintained by its FSH-essential subfunctions and its FSH-non-essential subfunctions(FNSs).A function in its FSH or far from its FSH is called a normal or dysfunctional function.A direct PBM may self-adaptatively modulate a dysfunctional function until it is normal so that it can be used to discover the optimum pathways for an FSH to be *** indirect PBM may self adaptatively modulate a dysfunctional FNS of a normal function until the FNS is normal,and the normal function is then upgraded so that it can be used to discover the redundant pathways for a normal function to be upgraded.

In modern physics and fabrication technology,simulation of projectile and target collision is vital to improve design in some critical applications,like;bulletproofing and medical ***,the most prominent member of two dimensional materials presents ultrahigh tensile strength and ***,polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)is one of the most important elastomeric materials with a high extensive application area,ranging from medical,fabric,and interface *** this work we considered graphene/PDMS structures to explore the bullet resistance of resulting *** this aim,extensive molecular dynamic simulations were carried out to identify the penetration of bullet through the graphene and PDMS composite *** this paper,we simulate the impact of a diamond bullet with different velocities on the composites made of single-or bi-layer graphene placed in different positions of PDMS *** underlying mechanism concerning how the PDMS improves the resistance of graphene against impact loading is *** discuss that with the same content of graphene,placing the graphene in between the PDMS result in enhanced bullet *** work comparatively examines the enhancement in design of polymer nanocomposites to improve their bulletproofing response and the obtained results may serve as valuable guide for future experimental and theoretical studies.

Biometrics of the Cervical Spinal Canal and Cord by Computer Tomography in Togo

Studies on the canal dimensions of the cervical spinal are rare in Africa. The aim of this study is to provide normal values of the cervical spinal canal and spinal cord dimensions of adult people in Togo. It was about a twelve-year prospective study conducted in the main Hospitals of Campus Teaching Hospital. This study involved people of more than 18 years who neither presented any clinical sign nor rachis defect. The distances measured were antero-posterior 1 (APD1) and inter-pedicular (IPD) of the cervical spinal canal, the antero-posterior 2 (APD2) and the transverse (TD) diameters of the cervical spinal cord, followed with APD2/APD1 (r1) and TD/IPD (r2) research reports. The mean age was 38 +/- 9.34 years old. The average of APD1 of the cervical spinal canal stood at 15.41 ± 0.55 mm, with a minimum of 10.48 ± 0.57 mm and a maximum of 25.00 ± 2.60 mm. The IPD average stood at 23.27 ± 1.67 mm with a minimal average of 13.68 ± 1.46 mm and a maximal average of 33.68 ± 1.46 mm. The average of DAP2 was 11.66 ± 0.66 mm, with a minimum of 10.7 ± 0.66 mm and a maximum of 12.77 ± 0.66 mm. The DT average stood at 15.55 ± 1.54 mm, with a minimal average of 14.03 ± 2.43 mm and a maximal average of 17.63 ± 1.82 mm. The ratio r1 (APD2/APD1) average was 0.80 ± 0.04, with a minimum of 0.76 ± 0.06 and a maximum of 0.85 ± 0.07. The ratio r2 (TD/IPD) average stood at 0.69 ± 0.14, with a minimum of 0.5 ± 0.12 and a maximum of 0.84 ± 0.08. The cervical spinal canal and the cervical spinal cord diameters in Togo are not significantly different from those described above.
