Purpose:Olecranon fractures are particularly vulnerable to distraction and subsequent fracture dislocation due to the high tensile *** treatment aims at reducing the fracture and restoring the anatomical joint surface condition,as well as neutralizing the strain inhibiting fracture *** XS nail®(Intercus GmbH,Bad Blankenberg,Germany),an intramedullary implant exerting compression across the entire fracture surface,unlike plates,leaves a minimal extra-cortical profile,and can be secured with threaded locking wires,thereby retaining the anatomical reduction without displacement or steps within the articular surface,which was often found in tension band *** encouraging initial results,the long-term outcome was ***:This retrospective study evaluated the long-term outcome of patients surgically treated at our trauma center between January 2002 and December 2005 using the XS nail®.Patients over the age of 18 years eligible for the study must have undergone surgery for isolated,recent(less than 14 days)traumatic olecranon fractures,without concomitant injuries to the ipsilateral elbow and *** exclusion criteria were pseudarthrosis,re-fractures and osteotomy for distal humerus surgery,as well as polytraumatized patients unable to aid in their own *** were retrospectively gathered by standardised questionnaire and patient records,as well as surgery and anesthesiology *** analysis was performed using Microsoft Office Excel?***:There were 32 patients,13 males(mean age 49.0 years)and 19 females(mean age 68.9 years)with 11 Schatzkers type D,7 each type A and C,5 type B and 2 type E at an average of 55.2 months,all showing complete *** them,6 patients had a loss of range of motion with more than 10°in the sagittal plane,and only 1 patient exceeded 10°reduction of ***-five patients reported being pain-free under all circumstances,and all but 2 patients(93.75%)had returned to

Eye tracking is growing in popularity for multiple application areas,yet analysing and exploring the large volume of complex data remains difficult for most *** present a comprehensive eye tracking visual analytics system to enable the exploration and presentation of eye-tracking data across time and space in an efficient *** application allows the user to gain an overview of general patterns and perform deep visual analysis of local gaze *** ability to link directly to the video of the underlying scene allows the visualisation insights to be verified on the *** system was motivated by the need to analyse eye-tracking data collected from an‘in the wild’study with energy network operators and has been further evaluated via interviews with 14 eye-tracking experts in multiple *** suggest that,thanks to state-of-the-art visualisation techniques and by providing context with videos,our system could enable an improved analysis of eye-tracking data through interactive exploration,facilitating comparison between different participants or conditions,thus enhancing the presentation of complex data analysis to *** research paper provides four contributions:(1)analysis of a motivational use case demonstrating the need for rich visual-analytics workflow tools for eye-tracking data;(2)a highly dynamic system to visually explore and present complex eye-tracking data;(3)insights from our applied use case evaluation and interviews with experienced users demonstrating the potential for the system and visual analytics for the wider eye-tracking community.

Nuclear grade 304 stainless steel was irradiated by 3.5 MeV Fe ions,with fluxes of 3.05E+15 ions/cm^(2)and 1.55E+16 ions/cm^(2).Irradiation effects were studied by positron annihilation spectroscopy(PAS),transmission electron microscope(TEM)and nanoindentation *** results showed that different types of defects were produced after irradiation and that there was significant variance in defects formed when the samples were subjected to different irradiation *** characterization showed that the irradiation-induced dislocation loops enlarged in average size,but decreased in number density at higher irradiation *** test showed obvious irradiation hardening phenomenon,which was in good agreement with the PAS and TEM *** hardening effect increased with an increase in irradiation dose and saturation occurred with an increase in irradiation dose from 3.2 to 16 *** statistical analysis showed that barrier strength of the Frank loop depends on the loop size and density produced by the ion irradiation.

The Design of a Mobile Phone-Based Remote-Control Application to Submersible Motor for Effective Water Supply

In the last few decades, several monitoring systems integrated with water level detection have been the major research focus. Production boost and its sustainability depend mainly on sustainable water supply, measuring water level, and avoiding waste of water is an essential task for all stakeholders. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to design and implement a mobile phone-based remote control. This will be applied to control the operation of a submersible motor in a water tank. The water level in the tank is detected and the device remotely turns the motor pump on/off. The design process is accomplished by developing an android application that works on GSM technology to manage the filling of water tank. An AT89C51 microcontroller is used for the desired programming. At the transmitting end, sensor is used for level detection and GSM module is used to send the information to user. According to this information, user controls the on/off operation of the pump. A SIM card is required for its operation and it works on attention (AT) commands. After the design and implementation of the device, the test results showed that all features of the device worked properly, and the device functions exactly as expected. More significantly, the paper has shown that ultrasonic sensors can be used to determine the level of water in a water tank and a GSM module can be used to control a submersible pump. The design and implementation of this device can help to reduce waste of time and power. Ultimately, it avoids water wastage thereby ensuring availability, conservation, and sustainability of water supply.

Distribution of Respiratory Tract Infectious Diseases in Relation to Particulate Matter(PM_(2.5))Concentration in Selected Urban Centres in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria

Due to the visibility of soot in the environment of the Niger Delta especially Rivers State that has led to the increase of Respiratory Tract Infections(RTIs)in the region,this study was undertaken to determine the relationship between Particulate Matter(PM_(2.5))concentration and the incident of Respiratory Tract Infections(RTIs)in selected urban centres of the Niger *** on RTIs were collected from the Hospital Management Boards of the Ministries of Health of Rivers,Bayelsa and Delta States and the data for PM_(2.5)were remotely sensed from 2016 to 2019,and subsequently analyzed with ANOVA and Spearman’s rank correlation *** findings of this study revealed that there was significant variation in the occurrence of PM_(2.5)across the selected urban centres in the Niger Delta *** PM_(2.5)for the reviewed years was far above the World Health Organization(WHO)annual permissible limit of 10μg/m^(3)thereby exacerbating Respiratory Tract Infections(RTIs).The epidemiology of the RTIs showed that there are basically four(4)prominent RTI diseases:Asthma,Tuberculosis,Pneumonia and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD).The result of this study showed that the concentration of PM_(2.5)varies in all the selected cities,and the mean monthly variation(2016-2019)showed that Port Harcourt had 47.27μg/m^(3)for January while Yenagoa and Asaba had 46μg/m^(3)and 47.51μg/m^(3)respectively for January;while the lowest mean value in the cities were seen within the month of September and October,which also had a strong seasonal influence on the concentration of PM_(2.5).The concentration of PM_(2.5)and the numbers of RTIs also gradually increases in the study areas from 2016 to *** study recommends that the necessary regulatory bodies should closely monitor the activities of the companies likely to cause such pollution;guild them through their operations and give prompt sanctions and heavy fines to defaulters of the accepted standards.

In a sharp contrast to tropical cyclone(TC) genesis over the main development region of the western North Pacific(WNP), near-equatorial(0°-5°N) TCs exhibit a distinctive annual cycle, peaking in boreal winter and being inactive in boreal summer. The relative roles of dynamic and thermodynamic background states on near-equatorial TCs formation were investigated based on the observational diagnosis of the genesis potential index(GPI) and high-resolution model simulations. It is found that the background vorticity makes a major contribution to the distinctive annual cycle, while mean temperature and specific humidity fields are not critical. Numerical simulations further indicate that seasonal mean cyclonic vorticity in boreal winter has three effects on TC genesis near the equator. First, the environmental cyclonic vorticity interacts with TC vortex to promote a mid-level outflow, which strengthens boundary layer friction induced ascending motion and thus condensational heating. Second, it produces an equivalent Coriolis effect(via enhanced absolute vorticity), which strengthens positive feedback between primary and secondary circulation. Third, it helps to merge small-scale vortical hot towers(VHTs) into a mesoscale core through vorticity segregation process. However, background vorticity in boreal summer has an opposite effect on TC development near the equator.

Physical Processes Responsible for the Interannual Variability of Sea Ice Concentration in Arctic in Boreal Autumn since 1979

Arctic sea ice concentration （ASIC） in boreal autumn exhibits prominent interannual variability since 1979. The physical mechanism responsible for the year-to-year variation of ASIC is investigated through observational data analyses and idealized numerical modeling. It is found that the ASIC interannual variability is closely associated with the anomalous meridional circulations over the Northern Hemisphere, which is further linked with the tropical sea surface temperature （SST） forcing. A tropics-wide SST cooling anomaly leads to an enhanced meridional SST gradi- ent to the north of the equator in boreal summer, generating strengthened and northward shifting Hadley circulation over the Northern Hemisphere. Consequently, the meridional circulations are enhanced and pushed poleward, lead- ing to an enhanced descending motion at the North Pole, surrounded by an ascending motion anomaly; the surface outflow turns into easterly anomalies, opposing the mean-state winds. As a result, positive cloudiness and weakened surface wind speed emerge, which reduce ASIC through changes in the surface latent heat flux and the downward longwave radiation.
