Do networks of social interactions reflect patterns of kinship？

The underlying kin structure of groups of animals may be glimpsed from patterns of spatial position or temporal as- sociation between individuals, and is presumed to facilitate inclusive fitness benefits. Such structure may be evident at a finer, behavioural, scale with individuals preferentially interacting with kin. We tested whether kin structure within groups of meerkats Suricata suricatta matched three forms of social interaction networks： grooming, dominance or foraging competitions. Networks of dominance interactions were positively related to networks of kinship, with close relatives engaging in dominance interactions with each other. This relationship persisted even after excluding the breeding dominant pair and when we restricted the kinship network to only include links between first order kin, which are most likely to be able to discern kin through simple rules of thumb. Conversely, we found no relationship between kinship networks and either grooming networks or networks of foraging competitions. This is surprising because a positive association between kin in a grooming network, or a negative association be- tween kin in a network of foraging competitions offers opportunities for inclusive fitness benefits. Indeed, the positive association between kin in a network of dominance interactions that we did detect does not offer clear inclusive fitness benefits to group members. We conclude that kin structure in behavioural interactions in meerkats may be driven by factors other than indirect fit- ness benefits, and that networks of cooperative behaviours such as grooming may be driven by direct benefits accruing to indi- viduals perhaps through mutualism or manipulation

The combined effects of vertical overturning circulation(VOC) zonal length scale and moist static energy(MSE)tendency zonal asymmetry on MJO phase speed were investigated based on diagnosis of ERA-Interim data over a 40-year period(1979-2019).In a key region(80°-100°E),128 MJO events were *** was found that the larger the VOC zonal length scale,the faster the MJO eastward *** correlation coefficient between them was 0.52,exceeding the 99% confidence level.A significant positive correlation(0.59) was also identified between the phase speed and MSE tendency zonal asymmetry.A linear regression model based on the aforementioned two parameters was constructed,and the phase speed could be estimated based on the *** correlation coefficient between the reconstructed phase speed and its observed counterpart was 0.73,exceeding the 99% confidence level with an f-test.A composite analysis of the fast and slow groups indicated that the VOC zonal length scale was modulated by the background *** El Nino(La Ni?a)-like SST pattern and associated precipitation anomalies promoted a larger(smaller) VOC zonal length scale and thus a faster(slower)propagation speed.A sensitivity test with a reference point in a different longitudinal zone(120°-140°E) was ***,there were significant relationships between the MJO phase speed and the two *** correlation between the reconstructed and observed phase speed was 0.67,exceeding the 99% confidence level.

Microstructural impacts on ionic conductivity of oxide solid electrolytes from a combined atomistic-mesoscale approach

Effects of air-sea coupling on the eastward propagating boreal winter intraseasonal oscillation over the tropical Indian Ocean

The effects of air-sea coupling over the tropical Indian Ocean（TIO） on the eastward propagating boreal winter intraseasonal oscillation（MJO） are investigated by comparing a fully coupled and a partially decoupled Indian Ocean experiment using the SINTEX-f coupled ***-sea coupling over the TIO significantly enhances the intensity of the eastward propagations of the MJO along the5°-10°S zonal *** zonal asymmetry of the SST anomaly（SSTA） is responsible for the enhanced eastward propagation.A positive SSTA appears to the east of the MJO convection,which results in the boundary layer moisture convergence and positively feeds back to the MJO *** addition,the air-sea interaction effect on the eastward propagation of the MJO is related to the interannual variations of the ***-sea coupling enhances（reduces） the eastward-propagating spectrum during the negative Indian Ocean dipole mode and positive Indian Ocean basin *** phase dependence is attributed to the role of the background mean westerly in affecting the wind-evaporation-SST ***-sea coupling（decoupling） enhances（reduces） the zonal asymmetry of the low-level specific humidity,and thus the eastward propagation spectrum of the MJO.

Associations between meeting 24-hour movement guidelines and academic achievement in Australian primary school-aged children
