The effect of reactive plasticizer on viscoelastic and mechanical properties of solid rocket propellants based on different types of HTPB resin

Conventional plasticizers deteriorate mechanical and viscoelastic properties of the propellants due to their migration upon aging and long-term storage,which affects reliability and safety properties during *** address this issue,conventional plasticizer,dioctyl adipate(DOA),is replaced by reactive one,castor oil(CO).In addition,three different types of HTPB were used to obtain propellants with designed viscoelastic and mechanical *** CO increased propellants viscosity,without a significant impact on the propellant processability,regardless to the type of ***,mechanical properties were different depending on the type of resin,which were further analyzed by gel permeation chromatography(GPC).Addition of CO formed a denser polymer network and shifted T_(g) to higher values,compared to the compositions with *** tensile strength of CO-containing propellants was lower at +20℃ and +50℃ compared to the reference compositions,while the strain at maximum load and strain at break were significantly increased with pronounced plastic deformation,especially for samples at -30℃.The inclusion of CO in the propellants composition gives more room for adjusting a wide range of mechanical properties.

Gardner's syndrome:Genetic testing and colonoscopy are indicated in adolescents and young adults with cranial osteomas:A case report

We present a case of a 25-year-old female with diagnosed familial adenomatous polyposis and elevated carcinoembryonic antigen with negative family history. The suspicion of Gardner's syndrome was raised because extirpation of an osteoma of the left temporo-occipital region was made 10 years ago. Restorative procto-colectomy and ileal pouch anal anastomosis was made but histology delineated adenocarcinoma of the rectum (Dukes C stage). We conclude that cranial osteomas often precede gastrointestinal manifestations of familial adenomatous polyposis or Gardner's syndrome and such patients should be evaluated with genetic testing followed by colonoscopy if results are positive to prevent the development of colorectal carcinoma. If the diagnosis is positive all family members should be evaluated for familial adenomatous polyposis.

Colonic duplication in an adult who presented with chronic constipation attributed to hypothyroidism

Gastrointestinal duplications are an uncommon congenital abnormality that manifest before the age of two in 80% of cases. Ileal duplication is the most common while colonic duplication, either cystic or tubular, occurs in 10%-15% of cases and remains asymptomatic and undiagnosed in most cases. Mostly occurring in pediatric patients, colonic duplication is encountered in adults in only a few cases. The most common clinical manifestations are abdominal pain and intestinal obstruction. Rarely, duplications present with signs of acute abdomen or acute bleeding. This study reports a case of colonic duplication in an adult who presented with chronic constipation. Complete diagnostic workup was made on several occasions during the previous eight year period, but no pathology was found and chronic constipation was attributed to hypothyroidism caused by long standing Hashimoto thyroiditis. Nultislice CT, performed because of abdominal distension, defined colonic pathology but the definite diagnosis of duplication of the transversal colon was made at operation. The cystic duplication and the adjacent part of the ascending and transversal colon were excised enblock. This study implies that colonic duplication, though uncommon, should be included in the differential diagnosis of chronic constipation even when precipitating factors for constipation, such as hypothyroidism are present.

Current diagnostic approach to patients with adnexal masses: which tools are relevant in routine praxis?

Objective： The aim of the study was to investigate which anamnestic, laboratory and ultrasound parameters used in routine practice could predict the nature of adnexal mass, thus enabling referral to relevant specialist. Methods： Study involved the women treated for adnexal tumors throughout a period of 2 years. On admission, detailed anamnestic and laboratory data were obtained, expert ultrasound scan was performed, and power Doppler index （PDI）, risk of malignancy index （RMI） and body mass index （BMI） were calculated for all patients. Obtained data were related to histopathological findings, and statistically analyzed. Results： The study included 689 women （112 malignant, 544 benignant, and 33 borderline tumors）. Malignant and borderline tumors were more frequent in postmenopausal women （P=0.000）. Women who had benignant tumors had the lowest BMI （P=0.000）. There were significant （P〈0.05） differences among tumor types regarding erythrocyte sedimentation rate, CA125 and carcinoembryonic antigen （CEA） levels. Among ultrasound findings, larger tumor diameter and ascites were more frequent in malignant tumors （P=0.000）. Women with malignant tumors had highest values of RMI and PDI （P=0.000）. Conclusions： Anamnestic data, ultrasound parameters and laboratory analyses were all found to be good discriminating factors among malignant, benignant and borderline tumors.

AIM To establish a rat model of anal sphincter injury and test different systems to provide stem cells to injured *** Adipose-derived stem cells(ASCs) were isolated from BDIX rats and were transfected with green fluorescent protein(GFP) for cell tracking. Biosutures(sutures covered with ASCs) were prepared with 1.5 × 10~6 GFPASCs, and solutions of 10~6 GFP-ASCs in normal saline were prepared for injection. Anorectal normal anatomy was studied on Wistar and BDIX female rats. Then, we designed an anal sphincter injury model consisting of a 1-cm extra-mucosal miotomy beginning at the anal verge in the anterior middle line. The sphincter lesion was confirmed with conventional histology(hematoxylin and eosin) and immunofluorescence with 4', 6-diamidino-2-phenylindole(commonly known as DAPI), GFP and α-actin. Functional effect was assessed with basal anal manometry, prior to and after injury. After sphincter damage, 36 BDIX rats were randomized to three groups for:(1) Cell injection without repair;(2) biosuture repair; and(3) conventional suture repair and cell injection. Functional and safety studies were conducted on all the animals. Rats were sacrificed after 1, 4 or 7 d. Then, histological and immunofluorescence studies were performed on the surgical *** With the described protocol, biosutures had been covered with at least 820000-860000 ASCs, with 100% viability. Our studies demonstrated that some ASCs remained adhered after suture passage through the muscle. Morphological assessment showed that the rat anal anatomy is comparable with human anatomy; two sphincters are present, but the external sphincter is poorly developed. Anal sphincter pressure data showed spontaneous, consistent, rhythmic anal contractions, taking the form of "plateaus" with multiple twitches(peaks) in each pressure wave. 达尔马提亚(Dalmatian)地区始新世一中新世复理石盆地底部(东亚得里亚海)中的一些巨厚层状碳酸盐岩的下伏地层和上覆地层均为扇形三角洲砾岩,而薄层浊积岩与扇形三角洲砾岩呈指状穿插关系。扇形三角洲和指状穿插的浊积岩被解释为低水位期或海平面上升早期的产物。认为巨厚层状沉积是海平面加速上升时期形成的发育不全的扇形三角洲。这基于以下观察:(1)它们是一些扇形三角洲砾岩的上覆地层;(2)巨厚层状沉积中的骨屑和岩屑来源于陆上风化的较老的沉积岩;(3)其巨大的厚度说明主要是碎屑堆积且流水频率较低。推测巨厚层状沉积与相关的典型薄层浊积岩形成时海平面是不同的。两者的区别对深海沉积中的层序地层学研究非常重要。
