High-performance interrogation systems for optical fiber sensors are extensively required for environmental condition monitoring *** this article,we propose and demonstrate a Michelson interferometer(MI)interrogation system based on an optoelectronic oscillator(OEO).The frequency of the OEO is related to the free spectral range(FSR)of the ***,when the FSR of the MI varies with a change in external physical factors,the frequency of the OEO shifts and can be used for *** demonstrate that the temperature sensitivity and interrogation resolution are 35.35 MHz/℃and 0.012℃,*** an OEO-based scheme enables wavelength-to-frequency mapping and promises a wide linear interrogation range,high resolution and high-speed interrogation.

Microwave photonic filter(MPF) as one of the key devices in the radio-on-fiber(ROF) system has attracted much interest recently. Some key technologies of MPF including the coherence, quality factor(Q) and reconfigurability are introduced. The difference between the incoherent and coherent MPF(ICMPF and CMPF) is given, and the methods to realize an ICMPF are also introduced. Higher Q factor MPF can be developed with more taps, and it is proved by simulation. Then the methods of finite and infinite impulse response MPF(FIRMPF and IIRMPF) are both given. At last, the reconfigurability is verified by four kinds of window functions.

By introducing a convergent lens in the phase mask setup and by tilting appropriately the fiber from the phase mask, a linearly chirped fiber grating with an appropriate chirp can be obtained conveniently. Using this method, two groups of fiber gratings, each of them is composed of 8 overlaped linearly chirped fiber gratings but with different center reflection wavelength separations (～0.8 nm and ～1.6 nm, respectively) are fabricated. Experimental results show that, the compensators based on the two groups of fiber gratings can be used to compensate for the dispersion of 8×2.5 Gb/s transmission over 100 km of standard single-mode fiber for multiple channels in optical time-division multiplexing (OTDM) and densed wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM).

This paper firstly and experimentally demonstrates an in-fiber axial micro-strain sensing head,combined with a Mach-Zehnder interferometer(MZI)based on the concentric multilayer elliptical-core fiber(CMECF).This MZI with a high extinction ratio(about 15dB)is successfully achieved with a CMECF-single mode fiber-CMECF(CSC)*** MZI sensor theory and the resonance demodulation technology are systematically described in this *** this CSC structure, two sections of the CMECF have a role as the mode generator and coupler,***01 and LPlleven,which have similar excitation coefficients,are two dominated propagating mode groups supported in the *** account of the distinct dual-mode property,a good stability of this sensor is *** detected resonance in the MZI shifts as the axial micro-strain variated due to the strong interaction between higher order *** sensitivity of^1.78pm/με is experimentally achieved within the range of 0με-1250με,meanwhile,the intensity fluctuation is below 0.38dB.

An optimal refractive index profile of pure silica core optical fiber (PSCF) was de- signed, in combination with the characters of the modified chemical vapor deposi- tion (MCVD) process. Techniques of preform fabrication by a new furnace round heating MCVD process and fiber drawing process were reviewed. Difficulties in doping fluorine in silica, widening the depressed-index cladding and maintaining the index of fiber core were discussed. Methods used to overcome these difficulties were given at the same time. Additionally, the optimal refractive index profiles of PSCF were presented.

A kind of erbium doped photosensitive fiber(EDPF) was proposed and fabricated,whose core was made of double layers named photosensitive layer and erbium doped *** double-layer core de-sign can overcome difficulties in fabrication of EDPF with single core design,*** conflict between the high consistency rare earth doping and high consistency germanium doping.A sample was fabri-cated through the modified chemical vapor deposition method combined with solution doping *** peak absorption coefficient was 48.80 dB/m at 1.53 μm,the background loss was lower than 0.1 dB/m,and the reflectivity of the fiber Brag gratings(FBG) written directly on the sample fiber was up to 97.3% by UV-writing ***,a C band tunable fiber laser was fabricated using the sample fiber,in which a uniform FBG was written directly on EDPFs as a reflector.A single wavelength lasing with a maximum wavelength tuning range of 1555.2―1558.0 nm was achieved *** this tuning range,the full-width at half maximum(FWHM) of the laser output was smaller than 0.015 nm and the side mode suppression ratio(SMSR) was better than 50 dB.

By optimizing the fabrication process of the chirped optical fiber Bragg grating（CFBG）, some key problems of CFBG are solved, such as fabrication repetition, temperature stability, group delay ripple（GDR）, fluctuation of the reflection spectrum, polarization mode dispersion（PMD）, interaction of cascaded CFBG,and so on. The CFBG we fabricated can attain a temperature coefficient less than 0.0005 nm/°C, and the smoothed GDR and the fluctuation of the reflection spectrum are smaller than 10 ps and 0.5 dB, respectively. The PMD of each CFBG is less than 1 ps and the dispersion of each grating is larger than– 2600 ps/（nm·km）. With dispersion compensated by the CFBGs we fabricated, a 13×10 Gbit/s 3100 km ultra long G.652 fiber transmission system is successfully implemented without electric regenerator. The bit error rate（BER） of the system is below 10–4without forward error correction（FEC）; when FEC is added, the BER is below 10–12. The power penalty of the carrier-suppressed returnto-zero（CSRZ） code transmission system is only 2.5 dB.

A high sensitivity D-shaped hole double-cladding fiber temperature sensor based on surface plasmon resonance(SPR)is designed and investigated by a full-vector finite element *** the D-shaped hole doublecladding fiber,the hollow D-section is coated with gold film and then injected in a high thermo-optic coefficient liquid to realize the high temperature sensitivity for the fiber SPR temperature *** numerical simulation results show that the peaking loss of the D-shaped hole double-cladding fiber SPR is hugely influenced by the distance between the D-shaped hole and fiber core and by the thickness of the gold film,but the temperature sensitivity is almost insensitive to the above *** the thermo-optic coefficient is -2.8×10^(-4)∕℃,the thickness of the gold film is 47 nm,and the distance between the D-shaped hole and fiber core is 5μm,the temperature sensitivity of the D-shaped hole fiber SPR sensor can reach to -3.635 nm∕℃.
