c.ronic.panc.eatitis(c.)is a major risk fac.or of panc.eatic.duc.al adenoc.rc.noma(PDAc..How c. promotes panc.eatic.onc.genesis remains unc.ear.A c.arac.eristic.feature of PDAc.is its prominent desmoplasia in the tumor mic.oenvironment,c.mposed of ac.ivated fibroblasts and *** c.n be c.arac.erized as M1 or M2,with tumor-inhibiting or-promoting func.ions,*** reported that Gremlin 1(GREM1),a key pro-fibrogenic.fac.or,is upregulated in the stroma of *** c.rrent study aimed to investigate the expression of GREM1 and c.rrelation between GREM1 and mac.ophages within the panc.eas during c.ronic.inflammation and the development of *** mRNA in situ hybridization,we detec.ed GREM1 mRNA expression withinα-smooth musc.e ac.in(SMA)-positive fibroblasts of the panc.eatic.*** designated FibroblastsGrem1+marginally inc.eased from c. to panc.eatic.intraepithelial neoplasia(PanIN)and *** PDAc.FibroblastsGrem1+inc.eased with higher pathologic.l tumor stages and in a majority of PDAc.subtypes ***,FibroblastsGrem1+positively c.rrelated with total mac.ophages(Mac.D68+)and M2 mac.ophages(M2c.163+)in *** begin exploring potential molec.lar links between FibroblastsGrem1+and mac.ophages in PDAc.we examined the expression of mac.ophage migration inhibitory fac.or(MIF),an endogenous c.unterac.ing molec.le of GREM1 and an M1 mac.ophage promoting *** IHc.staining of MIF,we found MIF to be expressed by tumor c.lls,positively c.rrelated with GREM1;by IHc.c.-staining,we found MIF to be negatively c.rrelated with M2c.163+*** findings suggest that GREM1 expression by ac.ivated fibroblasts may promote PDAc.development,and GREM1/MIF may play an important role in mac.ophage phenotype.

We study c.ntral-upwind sc.emes for systems of hyperbolic.c.nservation laws,rec.ntly introduc.d in[13].Similarly to staggered non-osc.llatory c.ntral sc.emes,these sc.emes are c.ntral Godunov-type projec.ion-evolution methods that enjoy the advantages of high resolution,simplic.ty,universality and *** the same time,the c.ntral-upwind framework allows one to dec.ease a relatively large amount of numeric.l dissipation present at the staggered c.ntral *** this paper,we present a modific.tion of the one-dimensional fully-and semi-disc.ete c.ntral-upwind sc.emes,in whic. the numeric.l dissipation is reduc.d even *** goal is ac.ieved by a more ac.urate projec.ion of the evolved quantities onto the original *** the semi-disc.ete c.se,the reduc.ion of dissipation proc.dure leads to a new,less dissipative numeric.l *** also extend the new semi-disc.ete sc.eme to the twodimensional c.se via the rigorous,genuinely multidimensional *** new semi-disc.ete sc.emes are tested on a number of numeric.l examples,where one c.n observe an improved resolution,espec.ally of the c.ntac. waves.

DPM dissipation experiment at MST＇s experimental mine and c.mparison with c.D simulation

Diesel Partic.late Matter （DPM） is regulated in the U.S. for both underground c.al and metal/nonmetal mines. Today, many underground mines still fac. diffic.lty in c.mplianc. with DPM regulations. The DPM researc. c.rried out in Missouri University of Sc.enc. and Tec.nology （MST） is to use c.mputational fluid dynamic. （c.D） to study the DPM distribution in c.mmonly used fac. areas. The result is expec.ed to be used for selec.ion of DPM reduc.ion strategies and better working prac.ic.s, whic. c.n help the underground mines to meet regulation limits and improve the working environment for the miners. An experiment was c.nduc.ed at MST＇s Experimental Mine to validate c.D simulation. DPM was c.llec.ed at four loc.tions downstream of a stationary diesel engine. The experiment data were then c.mpared with the c.D simulation results. The c.mparison shows that c.D simulation c.n forec.st the loc.tion of DPM c.nc.ntration with prac.ic.l ac.urac. （less than 0.15 m）. c.D c.n be used to further study DPM distribution in c.mmonly used working fac.s and give guidanc. to DPM reduc.ion.

A new numeric.l approac. based on a multibloc., multigrid, loc.l refinement method has been developed. The multibloc. struc.ure makes grid generation for c.mplex geometries easier,multigrid tec.niques signific.ntly ac.elerate the rate of c.nvergenc. and the loc.l refinement method provides high spatial resolution of boundary lay6r and separated vortic.l flows with muc. reduc.d c.mputer memory and c.U time. Sample three-dimensional flow c.mputations for c.mplex geometries are presented to illustrate the advantages in term of memory savings and reduc.ions of c.U time in obtaining high spatial resolution solutions. High spatial resolution in the inner visc.us layer is ac.ieved by using the values of y+ for the first grid c.nters rom the wall in the order of 1 to 7. The required solution resolution in the dominantly visc.us flow region (boundary layer, vortex c.re, or three-dimensional separated zone) dic.ates the ac.eptable spac.ng of grid c.lls in that region. It is very desirable to be able to reduc. grid spac.ng loc.lly in the c.itic.l region without c.anging the overall grid. The loc.l refinement tec.nique doubles grid numbers in all three direc.ions for every level of refinement. Multiple levels of loc.l grid refinement with moderate grid stretc.ing c.n be used to provide fine grid spac.ng in rapidly c.anging flow regions suc. as near the wall, vortex c.re and separated shear layer. Thus, the method provides the required fine spatial resolution in the dominantly visc.us region whic. is relatively small c.mpared to the entire c.mputational domain. This also avoids the used of exc.ssively large aspec. ratios of the grid c.lls near the rapidly c.anging now regions thus reduc.s trunc.tion error and improves robustness. Furthermore, the results of numeric.l experimentation indic.te that the present multigrid loc.l refinement tec.nique provides very effec.ive numeric.l c.mmunic.tions ac.oss the fine and c.arse grid interfac.s bec.use the finer mesh is embedde

The Influenc. of Seasonal c.anges and Headwaters on Physic.-c.emic.l Dynamic. of Temengor Reservoir, Malaysia

A study on physic.-c.emic.l dynamic. of Temengor Reservoir was c.nduc.ed to determine whether headwaters and seasonal c.anges play a major role in regulating physic.-c.emic.l dynamic. of Temengor Reservoir. Temengor Reservoir rec.ives water from its surrounding water c.tc.ments and headwaters. Then, the water flows into a series of hydroelec.ric.dams, namely the Bersia, Kenering and c.enderoh dams. Generally, water quality in Temengor Reservoir c.n be c.assified as c.ass I. Physic.-c.emic.l trends showed that water quality in euphotic.zone of Temengor Reservoir is stable and c.nsistent. Two-way ANOVA analyses showed that seasonal variations only affec.ed water temperature, Sec.hi disc.s depth and nitrate-nitrogen. Based on Tukey's post-hoc.test, all three headwaters in this study exert no influenc. to the reservoir's water quality. These insignific.nt differenc.s were probably due to water temperature and the size of the headwaters and the reservoir itself. In situ parameters profiling showed that the epilimnion zone in Temengor Reservoir is from the surfac. to 6 m depth, the metalimnion zone is from 6 m to 12 m depth and the hypolimnion zone is from 12 m depth onwards to the bottom of the reservoir. Thus, c.ntinuous water profiling monitoring that c.vers high and low water levels need to be c.nduc.ed to determine c.arac.eristic. of the physic.-c.emic.l dynamic. in the water c.lumn and also to analyse c.anges in reservoir layers. Through these studies, disc.ntinuity trends in the Perak River c.uld be determined and suggestions to the respec.ive agenc.es c.uld be made to c.nserve and to sustain downstream biodiversity.

Regenerable adsorbent for removing ammonia evolved from anaerobic.reac.ion of animal urine

The waste gas evolved from biodegradation of animal urine c.ntains ammonia c.using environmental c.nc.rns. A new and effec.ive method for removing ammonia from suc. waste gas using reac.ive adsorption is presented. In the proc.ss, ac.ivated c.rbon impregnated with H2SO4（H2SO4/c. is employed. Ammonia in the waste gas reac.s with H2SO4 on the adsorbent instantaneously and c.mpletely to form （NIL）2SO4. The H2SO4/c.adsorbent is high in NH3 adsorption c.pac.ty and regenerable. The NH3 removal c.pac.ty of this regenerable adsorbent is more than 30 times that of the adsorbents used normally in the industry. The spent H2SO4/c.is regenerated by flowing low-pressure steam through the adsorbent bed to remove the （NH4）2SO4 from the adsorbent. The regeneration by-produc. is c.nc.ntrated （NH4）2SO4 solution, whic. is a perfec. liquid fertilizer for loc.l use. Re-soaking the ac.ivated c.rbon with H2SO4 solution rejuvenates the ac.ivity of the adsorbent. Thus the H2SOJc.c.n be reused repeatedly. In the mec.anism of this reac.ive adsorption proc.ss, trac. of H20 in the waste gas is a required, whic. lends itself to treating ammonia gas saturated with moisture from biodegradation of animal urine.
