Application and discussion of statistical seismology in probabilistic seismic hazard assessment studies

Earthquakes are one of the natural disasters that pose a major threat to human lives and property. Earthquake prediction propels the construction and development of modern seismology;however, current deterministic earthquake prediction is limited by numerous difficulties. Identifying the temporal and spatial statistical characteristics of earthquake occurrences and constructing earthquake risk statistical prediction models have become significant;particularly for evaluating earthquake risks and addressing seismic planning requirements such as the design of cities and lifeline projects based on the obtained insight. Since the 21 st century, the occurrence of a series of strong earthquakes represented by the Wenchuan M8 earthquake in 2008 in certain low-risk prediction areas has caused seismologists to reflect on traditional seismic hazard assessment globally. This article briefly reviews the development of statistical seismology, emphatically analyzes the research results and existing problems of statistical seismology in seismic hazard assessment, and discusses the direction of its development. The analysis shows that the seismic hazard assessment based on modern earthquake catalogues in most regions should be effective. Particularly, the application of seismic hazard assessment based on ETAS(epidemic type aftershock sequence)should be the easiest and most effective method for the compilation of seismic hazard maps in large urban agglomeration areas and low seismic hazard areas with thick sedimentary zones.

β-Phase Crystallization of Poly(vinylidene fluoride) in Poly(vinylidene fluoride)/Poly(ethyl methacrylate) Blends

The nature of the crystalline phase of poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF) in compatible blends with poly(ethyl methacrylate)(PEMA) was investigated by using X-ray diffraction(XRD), infrared microscopy(IR) and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). The βphase of PVDF was observed after quenching from the melt and further annealing above the glass transition temperature over a composition range. The PVDF/PEMA blend with weight ratio of 3:2 has formed higher content of PVDF β crystals than others. By taking advantage of fast cooling rate of ultrafast differential scanning calorimeter(UFDSC), the quenching process of blends was modeled and tested simultaneously, and the melting behavior of β crystals in all blends was investigated. Three types of crystallization behavior of βphase PVDF in blends were found after quenching-annealing at different temperatures.

Using a Gaussian mathematical model to define eruptive stages of young volcanic rocks in Tengchong based on laser 40Ar/39Ar dating

Reconstruction of Quaternary environments,late Cenozoic geodynamics and evaluation of volcanic hazards,all depend on the precise delineation of eruptive *** recent years,laser 40Ar/39Ar dating methods have been widely used for dating young volcanic rocks,given their stable automated testing process,very low background level and high sensitivity,which meet the requirements for precise dating of young *** paper applied high-precision laser 40Ar/39Ar dating to the main volcanic units in the Tengchong area and obtained ages in the range of 0.025–5.1 Ma using conventional data processing ***,conventional dating highlighted issues related to very low radiogenic 40Ar content,accidental errors and poor data stability,which led to huge age ***,lacking a unified timescale,conventional methods were unable to strictly define the stages of the Tengchong volcanic eruptions,leading to ongoing *** this study,we applied a Gaussian mathematical model to deal with all 378 original ages from 13 *** apparent age-probability diagram,consisting of three independent waveforms,have been *** corresponding isochron ages of these three waveforms suggest there were three volcanic eruptive stages,namely during the Pliocene(3.78±0.04 Ma),early Middle Pleistocene(0.63±0.03 Ma)and late Middle Pleistocene to early Late Pleistocene(0.139±0.005 Ma).These results accurately define eruptive stages in the Tengchong area.

Degradation modeling of degradable copolymers for biomimetic scaffolds

Biomimetic scaffolds provide a suitable growth environment for tissue engineering and demonstrate good potential for application in biomedical ***-sized copolymerized biomimetic scaffolds degrade differently,and the degradation rate is affected by the copolymerization *** study of the degradation property is the foundational research necessary for realizing individualized biomimetic scaffold *** degradation performance of polyesters with different copolymerization ratios has been widely reported;however,the modeling of this performance has been rarely *** this research,the degradation of copolymers was studied with multi-scale modeling,in which the copolymers were dispersed in a cellular manner,the chain break time was simulated,and the chain selection was based on the Monte Carlo(MC)*** probability model of the copolymer's chain break position was established as a//roulette,/model,whose probability values were estimated by the calculation of the potential energy difference at different chain break positions by molecular dynamics that determined the position of chain shear,thereby fully realizing the simulation of the chain micro-break *** diffusion of the oligomers was then calculated using the macro diffusion equation,and the degradation process of the copolymer was simulated by three-scale coupling *** calculation results were in good agreement with the experimental data,demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Synergistic effect of electrode defect regulation and Bi catalyst deposition on the performance of iron–chromium redox flow battery

Iron-chromium redox flow batteries (ICRFBs) possess advantages of high safety,long cycle time,and *** Cr^(3+)/Cr^(2+)reaction activity is suggested as one of the most promising strategies to improve the performance and prolong the lifetime of *** improve the slow reaction kinetics of the negative electrode,a type of defected carbon cloth with Bismuth (Bi) catalyst introduction is prepared by defect engineering method and electrochemical deposition,which provided defect sites and active sites to catalyze the redox couple’s reaction of ***,this modified carbon cloth adsorbs Cr(Ⅲ)hydrate more easily,which has a more stable structure and can significantly improve the performance of *** experimental analysis and theoretical calculation indicated that the modified electrode has excellent electrocatalytic ability,which can enhance the reaction rate of Cr^(3+)/Cr^(2+),improve capacity retention and stabilize cycling *** capacity degradation rate of an ICRFB single cell with the modified electrodes is just 0.23%per cycle at a current density of 140 m A/cm^(2).Additionally,the energy efficiency (EE) remains around 83%,which is 8.45%higher than that of the pristine electrode assembled battery under 60 *** work supplies a simple method to obtain a high-performance electrode material for ICRFBs and makes it a practical solution to promote ICFRBs large-scale commercialization process.

Cascade two-stage tumor re-oxygenation and immune re-sensitization mediated by self-assembled albumin-sorafenib nanoparticles for enhanced photodynamic immunotherapy

As a promising modality for cancer therapy, photodynamic therapy(PDT) still acquired limited success in clinical nowadays due to the extremely serious hypoxia and immunosuppression tumor microenvironment. To ameliorate such a situation, we rationally designed and prepared cascade two-stage re-oxygenation and immune re-sensitization BSA-MHI148@SRF nanoparticles via hydrophilic and hydrophobic self-assembly strategy by using near-infrared photodynamic dye MHI148 chemically modified bovine serum albumin(BSA-MHI148) and multi-kinase inhibitor Sorafenib(SRF) as a novel tumor oxygen and immune microenvironment regulation drug. Benefiting from the accumulation of SRF in tumors, BSA-MHI148@SRF nanoparticles dramatically enhanced the PDT efficacy by promoting cascade two-stage tumor re-oxygenation mechanisms:(i) SRF decreased tumor oxygen consumption via inhibiting mitochondria respiratory.(ii) SRF increased the oxygen supply via inducing tumor vessel normalization. Meanwhile, the immunosuppression micro-environment was also obviously reversed by two-stage immune re-sensitization as follows:(i) Enhanced immunogenic cell death(ICD) production amplified by BSA-MHI148@SRF induced reactive oxygen species(ROS) generation enhanced T cell infiltration and improve its tumor cell killing ability.(ii) BSA-MHI148@SRF amplified tumor vessel normalization by VEGF inhibition also obviously reversed the tumor immune-suppression microenvironment. Finally, the growth of solid tumors was significantly depressed by such well-designed BSAMHI148@SRF nanoparticles, which could be potential for clinical cancer therapy.

Kinetics study of the N-formylation of aniline with DMF catalyzed by temperature-controlled Brùnsted ionic liquids

A series of SO_(3)-functional Br?nsted acidic ionic liquids(SBAILs)were prepared to catalyze the Nformylation of aniline with *** reaction conditions such as ionic liquid type,reaction *** loading and molar ratio of reactants were *** the best of our knowledge,kinetic model for the N-formylation of aniline with DMF using SBAIL was firstly built and *** studies on the reaction order of the reaction were evaluated by initial concentration method,and the kinetic parameters such as reaction rate constant and activation energy were proposed and used to explain the catalytic activities of the SBAILs ***,the recycling experiments showed that the SBAIL[Bsmim][HSO_(4)]can be easily recovered and reused with stable ***,the temperature-controlled study emphasized that the ionic liquid was easy to be separated and environmentally friendly.

Electron-enriched Pt induced by CoSe_(2)promoted bifunctional catalytic ability for low carbon alcohol fuel electro-reforming of hydrogen evolution

Alcohol fuel electro-reforming is promising for green hydrogen generation while developing efficient bifunctional catalysts for alcohol fuel electrolysis is still very ***,we for the first time proposed the electron-enriched Pt induced by CoSe_(2)has an efficient bi-functional catalytic ability for alcohol fuels electro-reforming of hydrogen in acid *** theoretical calculation revealed the advantages of electron-enriched Pt surface for the adsorption of intermediate,which is well supported by spectroscopic analysis and CO-stripping *** improved catalytic performances of activity,durability,and kinetics are demonstrated compared to the conventional alloy system and commercial Pt/C catalyst,due to the efficient synergism of Pt and CoSe_(2);the peak current density of Pt/CoSe_(2)for methanol(ethanol)oxidation is 87.61(48.27)m A cm^(-2),which is about 3.3(2.0)times higher than that of Pt/C catalyst and 2.0(1.5)times that of the traditional PtCo alloy ***,about 80%of the initial current was found after 1000 cycles of stability test for alcohol fuel oxidation of Pt/CoSe_(2)catalyst,higher than that of Pt/C(ca.50%)and PtCo catalyst(65%).When Pt/CoSe_(2)catalyst serviced as bi-functional catalysts for electrolyzer,a low cell potential of 0.65(0.78)V for methanol(ethanol)electrolysis was required to reach 10 m A cm^(-2),which was about 1030(900)m V less than that of conventional water electrolysis using Pt/C as the *** current result is instructive for the design of novel bifunctional catalyst and the understanding of hydrogen generation via alcohol fuel electro-reforming.
