Expanded graphite(EG) films exhibit potential use in a wide field including thermal management, conductive applications,and electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding. However, their poor tensile strength and brittleness are crucial deficiencies for commercial applications. To address these defects, in our work, natural rubber(NR) is employed to improve EG films for better mechanical strength and flexibility. The origin of the strengthening effect of EG films by the addition of natural rubber mainly arises from the formation of a simulate shell structure. Compared to the neat EG films, the addition of merely 2 wt% NR can give rise to superior ductility. Further, the loading of 10 wt% NR realizes a significant mechanical enhancement of the EG/NR films, i.e., 2.4 and 11.4 times increase in tensile strength and elongation at break, respectively. Besides, EG/NR films containing 10 wt% NR can still sustain excellent thermal and electric conductivities of 173 W·m^-1·K^-1 and 75 S·cm^-1, respectively. Furthermore, a very high EMI of 41.4 dB is achieved as the film thickness reaches 50 μm. Thus, the lightweight EG/NR films with comprehensive performance as well as their virtue of green and simple large-scale preparation endow them with the possibility of designing next-generation flexible electronics.

Bis(15-crown-5)-stilbenes containing crown ether parts have been widely used in a variety of chemical applications,such as cation detectors,because of their ability to selectively bind to alkali metal cations,Bis(15-crown-5)-stilbenes and its derivatives with complexation of one-or two-alkali metal cation(Li^(+),Na^(+)and K^(+))have been theoretically investigat-ed by quantum chemistry *** coordination of alkali cations results in partial shrinkage of crown ethers,which directly affected natural distribution analysis charges and molecular orbital energy *** number of alkali metal ions has significant effects on absorption spectra and mean second *** one alkali metal ion was added to the anticonformer of bis(15-crown-5)-stilbene,the absorption spectra were obvious-ly redshifted and the mean second hyperpolarizability values were slightly increased;while two alkali metal ions were added to bis(15-crown-5)-stilbene,the absorption spectra were ob-viously blue shifted and the mean second hyperpolarizability values *** the other hand,as the radius of the alkali ions increased,the mean second hyperpolarizability values of the compounds increased *** is indicated that the mean second hyperpolarizability value is sensitive to the number and radius of the alkali metal cations,thus the third order nonlinear optical response can be used as a signal to detect the number and type of alkali met-al ions.

Biological activity of a red-tide alga—A. tamarense under co-cultured condition with bacteria

The relationship between Alexandrium tamarense （Lebour） Balech, one of red-tide alga, and two strains of marine bacteria, Bacillius megaterium（S7 ） and B. halmapulus（ S10 ） isolated from Xiamen Western Sea, was investigated by evaluating the growth state of A. tamarense and the variation of β-glucosidase activity in co-culture system. The results showed the growth and multiplication of the alga were related with the concentration, genus speciality of the bacteria, and growth stage of the alga itself. The growth of A. tamarense was obviously inhibited by S7 and S10 at high concentration. Either inhibition or promotion contributed much more clearly in earlier than in later stageof the growth of the alga. Furthermore, there was a roughly similar variation trend of the activity of extra-cellular enzyme, β- glucosidase, in the water of the separately co-cultured bacteria S7 and S10 with the alga. The β-glucosidase activity（β-GlcA） rapidly increased during the later algal growth accompanying the increase of the lysis of the alga cells. The obvious inhibition of A. tamarense by marine bacteria at high concentration and evident increase of β-GlcA in co-colture system would help us in better understanding the relationship between red-tide alga and bacteria, and also enlightened us the possible use of bacteria in the bio-control of red-tide.

The reactive electrophilic species(RES), typically the molecules bearing α,β-unsaturated carbonyl group, are widespread in living organisms and notoriously known for their damaging effects. Many of the mycotoxins released from phytopathogenic fungi are RES and their contamination to cereals threatens food safety worldwide. However, due to their high reactivity, RES are also used by host organisms to synthesize specific metabolites. The evolutionary conserved glyoxalase(GLX) system scavenges the cytotoxic α-oxoaldehydes that bear RES groups, which cause host disorders and diseases. In cotton, a specialized enzyme derived from glyoxalase I(GLXI) through gene duplications and named as specialized GLXI(SPG), acts as a distinct type of aromatase in the gossypol pathway to transform the RES intermediates into the phenolic products. In this review, we briefly introduce the research progress in understanding the RES, especially the RES-type mycotoxins, the GLX system and SPG, and discuss their application potential in detoxification and synthetic biology.

To improve the coding performance of H.264/AVC, this paper proposes a rate control scheme composed of a novel flame complexity optimized selection and a quantization parameter （QP） value computation approach. First, it extracts the frame coding complexity from two rate distortion models, and then introduces five statistic modes to estimate the frame coding complexity. An optimal mode is selected according to the coding efficiency. Finally the paper presents a novel QP calculation method for the H.264/AVC rate control. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithra outperforms the algorithm integrated in the 3M model in obtaining precise frame coding complexity, achieving robust buffer control and improving coding quality. And the improving visual quality is high up to 0.90dB for CIF sequences.

The nanoparticle(NP) functionalization is an effective method for enhancing their compatibility with polymer which can influence the fracture property of the polymer nanocomposites(PNCs). This work aims to further understand the cavitation and crazing process, hoping to uncover the fracture mechanism on the molecular level. By adopting a coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulation, the fracture energy of PNCs first increases and then decreases with increasing the NP functionalization degree α while it shows a continuous increase with increasing the interaction εpA between polymer and modified beads. The bond orientation degree is first characterized which is referred to as the elongation. Meanwhile, the stress by polymer chains is gradually reduced with increasing the α or the εpA while that by NPs is ***, the percentage of stress by polymer chains first increases and then decreases with increasing the strain while that by NPs shows a contrast trend. Moreover, the number of voids is quantified which first increases and then decreases with increasing the strain which reflects their nucleation and coalescence process. The voids prefer to generate from the polymer-NP interface to the polymer matrix with increasing α o r ε*** a result, the number of voids first increases and then decreases with increasing α while it continuously declines with the εpA. In summary, our work provides a clear understanding on how the NP functionalization influences the cavitation and crazing process during the fracture process.
