Controlled Self-assembly of Thermo-responsive Amphiphilic H-shaped Polymer for Adjustable Drug Release

Despite the fact that some progress has been made in the self-assembly of H-shaped polymers, the corresponding self-assemblies that respond to external stimulus and are further utilized to adjust the release of drugs are still deficient. The stimuli-responsive segments with amphiphilic H-shaped structure are generally expected to enhance the controllability of self-assembly process. The synthesis and self-assembly behavior of thermo-responsive amphiphilic H-shaped polymers with poly（ethylene glycol）（PEG）, polytetrahydrofuran （PTHF） and poly（N-isopropyl acrylamide）（PNIPAM） as building blocks are reported in this paper. The inner architecture structure and size of complex micelles formed by H-shaped self-assemblies were effectively adjusted when the solution temperature was increased above the lower critical solution temperature of PNIPAM segments. Furthermore, it was found that the architecture of self-assemblies underwent a transition from the complex micelles based on primary micelles with hybrid PEG/PNIPAM shells to large complex micelles based on primary micelles with hybrid PTHF/PNIPAM cores and PEG shells during the thermal-induced self-assembly process. The adjustable release rate ofdoxorubicin （DOX） from the DOX-loaded complex micelles and basic cell experiments further proved the feasibility of these self-assemblies as the thermal-responsive drug delivery system.

Coherent variations of the obliquity components in global ice volume and ocean carbon reservoir over the past 5 Ma

The Milankovid theory stresses that the summer insolation in the high northern latitudes that is dominated by the precession cycle controls the glacial/interglacial cycles in global climate change. If the climate system responds linearly to the external insolation forcing, the precession cycle of 23 or 19 ka should dominate the variations in the climatic proxy records. I per- formed spectral and evolutive cross spectral analyses on the high resolution benthic ~80 and oa3C records from the South China Sea and the North Atlantic, the proxies of global ice volume and ocean carbon reservoir respectively. I found that the obliquity instead of the eccentricity or the precession is the most marked cycle in the global ice volume and ocean carbon res- ervoir variations over the past 5 Ma. The analysis further reveals that only at the obliquity band instead of the eccentricity or the precession band does the global ice volume and ocean carbon reservoir display consistently high coherency and stable phase relationship over the past 5 Ma. The consistently positive or near-zero phases of the benthic -o^SO relative to the benthic ff3C at the obliquity band suggest that the global carbon cycle is involved in the polar ice sheet growth as an important internal feedback, not a determinative driving factor. The obliquity instead of the precession or the eccentricity takes the dominant role of driving the global climate change during the Pliocene and Pleistocene.

Development of an ultrahard nanotwinned cBN micro tool for cutting hardened steel

Binderless nanotwinned cubic boron nitride(nt-cBN) synthesized from onion-structured BN precursors under high pressure and high temperature shows a very fine microstructure consisting of densely lamellar nanotwins(average thickness of 4 nm) within nanograins. The unique nanotwinned microstructure offers high hardness, wear resistance, fracture toughness, and thermal stability which are essential for advanced cBN tool materials. Thus, a circular micro tool of nt-cBN was fabricated using femtosecond laser contour machining followed by focused ion beam precision milling. Thereafter turning tests were performed on hardened steel using the studied micro tool. To evaluate the cutting performance, the machined surface quality and subsurface damage of the hardened steel were characterized. The wear mechanism of the nt-cBN micro tool was also investigated. It is found that the fabricated nt-cBN micro tool can generate high quality surface with surface roughness less than 7 nm and nanograin subsurface of about 500 nm deep. In addition, abrasive wear is found to be the dominant wear mechanism of the nt-cBN micro tool in turning hardened steel. These results indicate that nt-cBN has outstanding potential for ultra-precision cutting hardened steel.

Supplementation with dimethylglycine sodium salt improves lipid metabolism disorder in intrauterine growth-retarded pigs

An Isotropic SPPP Model for Femtocells Networks with Outage Probability Constraints

Femtocells have been considered as a costeffective solution to unload traffic from already overburdened macrocell networks in 4G cellular networks. The severe interference in spectrum-sharing macro and femto networks may cause User-equipment(UE) to experience outage. We derive an utmost isotropic Spatial Poisson point process(SPPP) density for Femtocell access points(FAPs) under the UEs’ outage constraints. Based on the derived isotropic SPPP density, we propose a distributed transmit probability self-regulation scheme for an FAP to adapt its transmit probability per Transmission time interval(TTI). The scheme adjusts the homogeneous distributed FAPs in practice deployment to the proposed isotropic one. Simulation results show that the derived density can fulfill the outage probability constraints of UEs while accommodating the maximum femtocells. The selfregulation scheme can adapt the femtocell transmit probabilities to provide reliable downlink service, for even a large number of femtocells per cell site.

Impact of Phenanthrene on Denitrification Activity and Transcription of Related Functional Genes in Estuarine and Marine Sediments

The effects of phenanthrene(Phe)on the denitrification activity and denitrifying genes(narG,nirS and nosZ)were evaluated by dose-response experiments in sediments of Dagu River Estuary(DRE)and Jiaozhou Bay(JZB).The results showed that potential denitrification activity(PDA),N2O,NO3−and NO2−reduction rates of both areas were inhibited with an increase of Phe *** PDA,N2O,NO3−and NO2−reduction rates of both areas was highest and lowest in the control(DRE:0.453,0.427,7.439 and 3.222mgNkg−1 h−1,JZB:0.592,0.555,8.470 and 3.793mgNkg−1 h−1)and highest Phe amended treatments(DRE:0.069,0.001,4.486,and 1.563 mgNkg−1 h−1;JZB:0.114,0.024,5.527 and 2.200 mgNkg−1 h−1).The inhibition rate of PDA was highest,follow by NO2−reduction and then NO3−***,with the increasing of Phe concentrations,total bacteria count and the abundance of denitrifying genes were *** N2O accumulation was promoted with the addition of Phe for both *** on the comparison of EC50 values,denitrifiers harboring three genes were more sensitive to Phe than PDA,and denitrifiers harboring nirS gene were more sensitive,followed by nosZ gene,and then narG ***,according to correlation analysis,the relative abundance of denitrifying genes was much more positively correlated with PDA,NO3−and NO2−reduction than total bacteria *** addition,the denitrification activity and total bacteria count in JZB were more inhibited than that of *** study is useful for understanding the impact of Phe pollution on denitrification in estuary and marine sediments,with profound implications for the management of aquatic ecosystems regarding eutrophication(N-removal)and greenhouse effect.

Evolution of pore systems in low-maturity oil shales during thermal upgrading--Quantified by dynamic SEM and machine learning
