Observing nuclear neutrinoless double beta (0vββ) decay would be a revolutionary result in particle physics.Observing such a decay would prove that the neutrinos are their own antiparticles,help to study the absolute mass of neutrinos,explore the origin of their mass,and may explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry in our universe by lepton number violation.We propose developing a time projection chamber (TPC) using high-pressure ^(82)SeF_(6) gas and Topmetal silicon sensors for readout in the China Jinping Underground Laboratory (CJPL) to search for neutrinoless double beta decay of82Se,called the NvDEx experiment.Besides being located at CJPL with the world’s thickest rock shielding,NvDEx combines the advantages of the high Qββ(2.996 MeV) of82Se and the TPC’s ability to distinguish signal and background events using their different topological characteristics.This makes NvDEx unique,with great potential for low-background and high-sensitivity 0 vββsearches.NvDEx-100,a NvDEx experiment phase with 100 kg of SeF_(6)gas,is being built,with plans to complete installation at CJPL by 2025.This report introduces 0 vββ physics,the NvDEx concept and its advantages,and the schematic design of NvDEx-100,its subsystems,and background and sensitivity estimation.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)is a common and clinically devastating disease that causes respiratory failure.Morbidity and mortality of patients in intensive care units are stubbornly high,and various complications severely affect the quality of life of survivors.The pathophysiology of ARDS includes increased alveolar–capillary membrane permeability,an influx of protein-rich pulmonary edema fluid,and surfactant dysfunction leading to severe hypoxemia.At present,the main treatment for ARDS is mechanical treatment combined with diuretics to reduce pulmonary edema,which primarily improves symptoms,but the prognosis of patients with ARDS is still very poor.Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)are stromal cells that possess the capacity to self-renew and also exhibit multilineage differentiation.MSCs can be isolated from a variety of tissues,such as the umbilical cord,endometrial polyps,menstrual blood,bone marrow,and adipose tissues.Studies have confirmed the critical healing and immunomodulatory properties of MSCs in the treatment of a variety of diseases.Recently,the potential of stem cells in treating ARDS has been explored via basic research and clinical trials.The efficacy of MSCs has been shown in a variety of in vivo models of ARDS,reducing bacterial pneumonia and ischemia-reperfusion injury while promoting the repair of ventilator-induced lung injury.This article reviews the current basic research findings and clinical applications of MSCs in the treatment of ARDS in order to emphasize the clinical prospects of MSCs.

Experimental study on the effect of cryoablation on lung cancer mice based on MAPK/ERK signaling pathway

Objective:To study the regulatory effect of cryoablation on MAPK/ERK signaling pathway in mice with lung adenocarcinoma.Methods:Lewis mouse lung adenocarcinoma cell line was used to establish subcutaneous transplanted tumor model in C57BL/6 mice.Ten mice were randomly divided into two groups:sham operation group and cryoablation group,with 5 mice in each group.The cryoablation group was treated with double circulation-rewarming ablation,and the sham operation group was treated with incision and suture at the transplanted tumor.The tumor tissues were taken 14 days after operation.Detect the effect of cryoablation on MAPK/ERK pathway related proteins by Western blot,such as KRAS,RAF1,MEK1,ERK1/2,P-RAF1,P-MEK1,P-ERK1/2.The expression of KRAS gene was further verified by qRt-PCR.Results:Compared with the sham operation group,the phosphorylated proteins P-RAF1,P-MEK1 and P-ERK1/2 in tumor tissue after cryoablation were decreased(P<0.05),and the key molecule KRAS in MAPK/ERK pathway was decreased in protein and gene expression(P<0.05).Conclusion:Cryoablation can negatively regulate MAPK/ERK signaling pathway by down-regulating KRas expression.

Comparison of various prediction models in the effect of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy on type 2 diabetes mellitus in the Chinese population 5 years after surgery

Background:The effect of bariatric surgery on type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)control can be assessed based on predictive models of T2DM remission.Various models have been externally verified internationally.However,long-term validated results after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy(LSG)surgery are lacking.The best model for the Chinese population is also unknown.Methods:We retrospectively analyzed Chinese population data 5 years after LSG at Beijing Shijitan Hospital in China between March 2009 and December 2016.The independent t-test,Mann–Whitney U test,and chi-squared test were used to compare characteristics between T2DM remission and non-remission groups.We evaluated the predictive efficacy of each model for longterm T2DM remission after LSG by calculating the area under the curve(AUC),sensitivity,specificity,Youden index,positive predictive value(PPV),negative predictive value(NPV),and predicted-to-observed ratio,and performed calibration using Hosmer–Lemeshow test for 11 prediction models.Results:We enrolled 108 patients,including 44(40.7%)men,with a mean age of 35.5 years.The mean body mass index was 40.3±9.1 kg/m^(2),the percentage of excess weight loss(%EWL)was(75.9±30.4)%,and the percentage of total weight loss(%TWL)was(29.1±10.6)%.The mean glycated hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)level was(7.3±1.8)%preoperatively and decreased to(5.9±1.0)%5 years after LSG.The 5-year postoperative complete and partial remission rates of T2DM were 50.9%[55/108]and 27.8%[30/108],respectively.Six models,i.e.,"ABCD",individualized metabolic surgery(IMS),advanced-DiaRem,DiaBetter,Dixon et al’s regression model,and Panunzi et al’s regression model,showed a good discrimination ability(all AUC>0.8).The"ABCD"(sensitivity,74%;specificity,80%;AUC,0.82[95%confidence interval[CI]:0.74–0.89]),IMS(sensitivity,78%;specificity,84%;AUC,0.82[95%CI:0.73–0.89]),and Panunzi et al’s regression models(sensitivity,78%;specificity,91%;AUC,0.86[95%CI:0.78–0.92])showed good discernibility.In the Hosmer–Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test,except for DiaRem(P<0.01),Di

Small-diameter acellular porcine corneal stroma for peripheral corneal ulceration treatment

AIM:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of small-diameter acellular porcine corneal stroma(SAPS)for the treatment of peripheral corneal ulceration(PCU).METHODS:This retrospective clinical study included 18 patients(18 eyes)with PCU between April 2018 and December 2020.All patients had PCU and underwent lamellar keratoplasty with SAPS.Observation indicators included preoperative and postoperative best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA)and transparency of SAPS.The infection control rate in the surgical eye-lesion area was also calculated.RESULTS:Eighteen patients underwent lamellar keratoplasty with SAPS to treat PCU.None of the patients experienced rejection after 6mo(18/18)and 12mo(16/16)of follow-up.The BCVA(0.47±0.30)at the 6mo followup after operation was significantly improved compared with the baseline(0.99±0.80),and the difference was statistically significant(Z=-3.415,P<0.05).The BCVA at the 12mo follow-up after operation was not statistically significant compared to the 6mo(Z=0,P=1).With time,the SAPS graft gradually became transparent.At the 6mo(18/18)and 12mo(16/16)follow-up,none of the patients had recurrent corneal infection.CONCLUSION:SAPS is clinically effective in the treatment of PCU,improving the patient’s BCVA and reducing the incidence of rejection after keratoplasty.

First Passage Density of Brownian Motion with Two-sided Piecewise Linear Boundaries

The first passage time has many applications in fields like finance,econometrics,statistics,and biology.However,explicit formulas for the first passage density have only been obtained for a few cases.This paper derives an explicit formula for the first passage density of Brownian motion with twosided piecewise continuous boundaries which may have some points of discontinuity.Approximations are used to obtain a simplified formula for estimating the first passage density.Moreover,the results are also generalized to the case of two-sided general nonlinear boundaries.Simulations can be easily carried out with Monte Carlo method and it is demonstrated for several typical two-sided boundaries that the proposed approximation method offers a highly accurate approximation of first passage density.

Analysis and experimental study on resistance-increasing behavior of composite high efficiency autonomous inflow control device

Bottom water coning is the main reason to reduce the recovery of horizontal bottom water reservoir. By water coning, we mean the oil-water interface changes from a horizontal state to a mound-shaped cone and breaks through to the wellbore. Autonomous inflow control device(AICD) is an important instrument maintain normal production after bottom water coning, however, the resistance increasing ability of the swirl type AICD is insufficient at present, which seriously affects the water control effect. Aiming this problem, this paper designs a multi-stage resistance-increasing and composite type AICD. The separation mechanism of oil-water two phases in this structure, the resistance form of oil-water single phase and the resistance-increasing principle of water phase are analyzed. Establishing the dual-phase multi-stage separation and resistance-increasing model, and verified by measuring the throttling pressure drop and oil-water volume fraction of the AICD, it is found that the composite type AICD has the effect of ICD and AICD at the same time, which can balance the production rate of each well section at the initial stage of production, delay the occurrence of bottom water coning. In the middle and later stages of production, water-blocking can be effectively increased to achieve water control and stable production.After structural sensitivity analysis, the influence law of various structural parameters on the water control performance of composite AICD was obtained. The simulation calculation results show that,compared with the existing swirl type AICD, composite AICD has higher sensitivity to moisture content,the water phase throttling pressure drop is increased by 4.5 times on average. The composite AICD is suitable for the entire stage of horizontal well production.

BACKGROUND Crohn’s disease(CD)is often misdiagnosed as intestinal tuberculosis(ITB).However,the treatment and prognosis of these two diseases are dramatically different.Therefore,it is important to develop a method to identify CD and ITB with high accuracy,specificity,and speed.AIM To develop a method to identify CD and ITB with high accuracy,specificity,and speed.METHODS A total of 72 paraffin wax-embedded tissue sections were pathologically and clinically diagnosed as CD or ITB.Paraffin wax-embedded tissue sections were attached to a metal coating and measured using attenuated total reflectance fourier transform infrared spectroscopy at mid-infrared wavelengths combined with XGBoost for differential diagnosis.RESULTS The results showed that the paraffin wax-embedded specimens of CD and ITB were significantly different in their spectral signals at 1074 cm^(-1) and 1234 cm^(-1) bands,and the differential diagnosis model based on spectral characteristics combined with machine learning showed accuracy,specificity,and sensitivity of 91.84%,92.59%,and 90.90%,respectively,for the differential diagnosis of CD and ITB.CONCLUSION Information on the mid-infrared region can reveal the different histological components of CD and ITB at the molecular level,and spectral analysis combined with machine learning to establish a diagnostic model is expected to become a new method for the differential diagnosis of CD and ITB.

Classifying Chinese Medicine Constitution Using Multimodal Deep-Learning Model

Objective:To develop a multimodal deep-learning model for classifying Chinese medicine constitution,i.e.,the balanced and unbalanced constitutions,based on inspection of tongue and face images,pulse waves from palpation,and health information from a total of 540 subjects.Methods:This study data consisted of tongue and face images,pulse waves obtained by palpation,and health information,including personal information,life habits,medical history,and current symptoms,from 540 subjects(202 males and 338 females).Convolutional neural networks,recurrent neural networks,and fully connected neural networks were used to extract deep features from the data.Feature fusion and decision fusion models were constructed for the multimodal data.Results:The optimal models for tongue and face images,pulse waves and health information were ResNet18,Gate Recurrent Unit,and entity embedding,respectively.Feature fusion was superior to decision fusion.The multimodal analysis revealed that multimodal data compensated for the loss of information from a single mode,resulting in improved classification performance.Conclusions:Multimodal data fusion can supplement single model information and improve classification performance.Our research underscores the effectiveness of multimodal deep learning technology to identify body constitution for modernizing and improving the intelligent application of Chinese medicine.

Fracture geometry and breakdown pressure of radial borehole fracturing in multiple layers

Radial borehole fracturing that combines radial boreholes with hydraulic fracturing is anticipated to improve the output of tight oil and gas reservoirs.This paper aims to investigate fracture propagation and pressure characteristics of radial borehole fracturing in multiple layers.A series of laboratory experiments with artificial rock samples(395 mm×395 mm×395 mm)was conducted using a true triaxial fracturing device.Three crucial factors corresponding to the vertical distance of adjacent radial borehole layers(vertical distance),the azimuth and diameter of the radial borehole are examined.Experimental results show that radial borehole fracturing in multiple layers generates diverse fracture geometries.Four types of fractures are identified based on the connectivity between hydraulic fractures and radial boreholes.The vertical distance significantly influences fracture propagation perpendicular to the radial borehole axis.An increase in the vertical distance impedes fracture connection across multiple radial borehole layers and reduces the fracture propagation distance along the radial borehole axis.The azimuth also influences fracture propagation along the radial borehole axis.Increasing the azimuth reduces the guiding ability of radial boreholes,which makes the fracture quickly curve to the maximum horizontal stress direction.The breakdown pressure correlates with diverse fracture geometries observed.When the fractures connect multi-layer radial boreholes,increasing the vertical distance decreases the breakdown pressure.Decreasing the azimuth and increasing the diameter also decrease the breakdown pressure.The extrusion force exists between the adjacent fractures generated in radial boreholes in multiple rows,which plays a crucial role in enhancing the guiding ability of radial boreholes and results in higher breakdown pressure.The research provides valuable theoretical insights for the field application of radial borehole fracturing technology in tight oil and gas reservoirs.
