The impact of oceanic processes on the transient climate response: a tidal forcing experiment

In this study, the impact of oceanic processes on the sensitivity of transient climate change is investigated using two sets of coupled experiments with and without tidal forcing, which are termed ExpTide and ExpControl,respectively. After introducing tidal forcing, the transient climate response(TCR) decreases from 2.32 K to 1.90 K,and the surface air temperature warming at high latitudes decreases by 29%. Large ocean heat uptake efficiency and heat storage can explain the low TCR in ExpTide. Approximately 21% more heat is stored in the ocean in ExpTide(1.10×10^24 J) than in ExpControl(0.91×10^24 J). Most of the large ocean warming occurs in the upper 1 000 m between 60°S and 60°N, primarily in the Atlantic and Southern Oceans. This ocean warming is closely related to the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation(AMOC). The initial transport at mid-and high latitudes and the decline in the AMOC observed in ExpTide are both larger than those observed in ExpControl. The spatial structures of AMOC are also different with and without tidal forcing in present experiments. The AMOC in ExpTide has a large northward extension. We also investigated the relationship between AMOC and TCR suggested by previous studies using the present experiments.

Change of Ecological Footprint and Analysis of Ecological Sustainability——Taking Zhangjiakou City as an Example

This paper researches the ecological sustainability of Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, China, using the ecological footprint model. According to the study we find that Zhangjiakou City was in the situation of ecological deficit from 1990 to 2000 and the deficit had the enlarging tendency. In 1990 the per capita ecological footprint was 0.964 and the per capita ecological capacity was 0.5 l 8, thus it can be calculated that the per capita ecological deficit was 4）.446. However in 2000, the per capita ecological footprint increased to 1.068, at the same time the per capita eco- logical capacity decreased to 0.471, then the per capita ecological deficit in 2000 was 4）.597. Furthermore, this paper studies the ecological sustainability of the city from the changes of the ecological footprint of per 10,000 yuan GDP and the productivity of ecological system. Finally the authors point out the shortage of the model and the way to improve it.

Chloroplasts evolved from an ancient cyanobacterial endosymbiont more than 1.5 billion years *** subsequent coevolution with the nuclear genome,the chloroplast genome has remained independent,albeit strongly reduced,with its own transcriptional machinery and distinct features,such as chloroplast-specific innovations in gene expression and complicated post-transcriptional *** activates the expression of chloroplast genes via mechanisms that optimize photosynthesis,minimize photodamage,and prioritize energy *** the past few years,studies have moved from describing phases of chloroplast gene expression to exploring the underlying *** this review,we focus on recent advances and emerging principles that govern chloroplast gene expression in land *** discuss engineering of pentatricopeptide repeat proteins and its biotechnological effects on chloroplast RNA research;new techniques for characterizing the molecular mechanisms of chloroplast gene expression;and important aspects of chloroplast gene expression for improving crop yield and stress *** also discuss biological and mechanistic questions that remain to be answered in the future.

Mass-front velocity of dry granular flows influenced by the angle of the slope to the runout plane and particle size gradation

The mass-front velocities of granular flows results from the joint action of particle size gradations and the underlying ***,because of the complexity of friction during flow movement,details such as the slope-toe impedance effects and momentum-transfer mechanisms have not been completely explained by theoretical analyses,numerical simulations,or field *** study the mass-front velocity of dry granular flows influenced by the angle of the slope to the runout plane and particle size gradations we conducted model experiments that recorded the motion of rapid and long-runout rockslides or *** tests were conducted using slope angles of 25°,35°,45°,and 55° and three particle size *** resulting mass-front motions consisted of three stages:acceleration,velocity maintenance,and *** existing methods of velocity prediction could not explain the slowing effect of the slope toe or the momentum-transfer steady velocity *** the slope angle increased from 25° to 55°,the mass-front velocities dropped significantly to between 44.4% and59.6% of the peak velocities and energy lossesincreased from 69.1% to 83.7% of the initial,*** velocity maintenance stages occurred after the slope-toe and mass-front velocity *** this stage,travel distances increased as the angles increased,but the average velocity was greatest at 45°.At a slope angle of 45°,as the median particle size increased,energy loss around the slope toe decreased,the efficiency of momentum transfer increased,and the distance of the velocity maintenance stage *** presented an improved average velocity formula for granular flow and a geometrical model of the energy along the flow line.

Oxidation damage zone formed in creep fatigue crack growth of GH4169 alloy at 650℃

In the creep fatigue crack growth of GH4169 alloy,oxidation is a prominent damage source,which is mainly manifested as the oxidation damage zone in front of crack *** order to investigate the property of the oxidation damage zone formed in the creep fatigue crack growth,crack growth tests of directly aged GH4169 alloy were conducted at 650℃ in air under various load *** tests were performed to observe the damage characteristics at crack *** tests were systematically executed to quantify the dependency of oxidation damage zone size on load and holding *** crack propagation of the GH4169 alloy has a close relationship with grain boundary oxidation at 650℃.An oxidation damage zone in front of crack tip includes intergranular microcracks and oxidised but uncracked grain *** size has been calculated from transient crack growth rate and described as a function of maximum stress intensity factor and holding *** on oxidation damage zone size,a novel model has been developed to predict the creep fatigue crack growth rate of the GH4169 alloy at 650℃.

Effect of surface manganese oxide species on soot catalytic combustion of Ce-Mn-O catalyst

Constructing cerium and manganese bimetallic catalysts with excellent catalytic performance for soot combustion is the research frontier at *** order to find out the key factors for catalytic soot combustion of Ce-Mn-O catalysts,a series of Ce-Mn-O catalysts with different Ce/Mn proportions were prepared by co-precipitation *** activity test results show that it increases first and then decreases with the increase of Mn *** best catalytic activity is obtained for Ce_(0.64)Mn_(0.36) catalyst,which shows a maximum rate temperature(T_(m)) at 306℃ for CO_(2) production in TPO *** with non-catalytic soot combustion,the T_(m) decreases by mo re than 270℃.Syste matical characte rization results suggest that when the adsorbed surface oxygen,lattice oxygen,specific surface area and total reduction amount of the catalysts reach a certain value,the key factors leading to the difference of catalytic activity become the readily reducible and highly dispersed surface manganese oxide species and contact performance of the external *** surface manganese oxide species is beneficial to improving the low-temperature reducibility of catalysts and the porous surface is conducive to the contact between catalyst and ***,for the soot combustion reaction containing only O_(2),the promoting effect of Mn^(4+)is not obvious.

The primary fragments in ^(40)Ca +^(40)Ca reactions at 35,50,80,100,140,and 300 MeV/u were simulated using the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics model,in the phase space at t=300 fm/c with a coalescence radius R_c=5 *** standard Gogny interactions g0,g0 as,and gOass were adopted in simulating the collisions at an impact parameter of b=0 *** was found,using an isobaric yield ratio method,that temperature of the primary fragment depends on the incident energy and hardness of the interaction *** temperature obtained in this work agrees with the results by the self-consistent fitting method.

The controllable transfer of droplets on the surface of objects has a wide application prospect in the fields of microfluidic devices,fog collection and so *** Leidenfrost effect can be utilized to significantly reduce motion ***,the use of 3D structures limits the widespread application of self-propulsion based on Leidenfrost droplets in microelectromechanical *** manipulate Leidenfrost droplets,it is necessary to create 2D or quasi-2D *** this study,femtosecond laser is applied to fabricate a surface with periodic hydrophobicity gradient(SPHG),enabling directional self-propulsion of Leidenfrost *** field analysis within the Leidenfrost droplets reveals that the vapor layer between the droplets and the hot surface can be modulated by the SPHG,resulting in directional propulsion of the inner *** viscous force between the gas and liquid then drives the droplet to move.
