Variation Characteristics of Root Traits of Different Alfalfa Cultivars under Saline-Alkaline Stress and their Relationship with Soil Environmental Factors

Soil salinization is the main factor that threatens the growth and development of plants and limits the increase of yield.It is of great significance to study the key soil environmental factors affecting plant root traits to reveal the adaptation strategies of plants to saline-alkaline-stressed soil environments.In this study,the root biomass,root morphological parameters and root mineral nutrient content of two alfalfa cultivars with different sensitivities to alkaline stress were analyzed with black soil as the control group and the mixed saline-alkaline soil with a ratio of 7:3 between black soil and saline-alkaline soil as the saline-alkaline treatment group.At the same time,the correlation analysis of soil salinity indexes,soil nutrient indexes and the activities of key enzymes involved in soil carbon,nitrogen and phosphorus cycles was carried out.The results showed that compared with the control group,the pH,EC,and urease(URE)of the soil surrounding the roots of two alfalfa cultivars were significantly increased,while soil total nitrogen(TN),total phosphorus(TP),organic carbon(SOC),andα-glucosidase activity(AGC)were significantly decreased under saline-alkaline stress.There was no significant difference in root biomass and root morphological parameters of saline-alkaline tolerant cultivar GN under saline-alkaline stress.The number of root tips(RT),root surface area(RS)and root volume(RV)of AG were reduced by 61.16%,44.54%,and 45.31%,respectively,compared with control group.The ratios of K^(+)/Na^(+),Ca^(2+)/Na^(+)and Mg^(2+)/Na^(+)of GN were significantly higher than those of AG(pweight(RFW)and dry weight(RDW),root length(RL),RV and RT of alfalfa were positively regulated by soil SOC and TN,but negatively regulated by soil pH,EC,and URE(p<0.01).Root Ca^(2+)/Na+ratio was significantly positively correlated with soil TN,TP and SOC(p<0.01).The absorption of Mg and Ca ions in roots is significantly negatively regulated by soilβ-glucosidase activity(BGC)and acid phosphatase activity(APC)(p<

The protective effects and underlying mechanisms of dapagliflozin on diabetes-induced testicular dysfunction

Male diabetic individuals present a marked impairment in fertility;however,knowledge regarding the pathogenic mechanisms and therapeutic strategies is unsatisfactory.The new hypoglycemic drug dapagliflozin has shown certain benefits,such as decreasing the risk of cardiovascular and renal events in patients with diabetes.Even so,until now,the effects and underlying mechanisms of dapagliflozin on diabetic male infertility have awaited clarification.Here,we found that dapagliflozin lowered blood glucose levels,alleviated seminiferous tubule destruction,and increased sperm concentrations and motility in leptin receptor-deficient diabetic db/db mice.Moreover,the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor(GLP-1R)antagonist exendin(9-39)had no effect on glucose levels but reversed the protective effects of dapagliflozin on testicular structure and sperm quality in db/db mice.We also found that dapagliflozin inhibited the testicular apoptotic process by upregulating the expression of the antiapoptotic protein B-cell lymphoma 2(BCL2)and X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein(XIAP)and inhibiting oxidative stress by enhancing the antioxidant status,including total antioxidant capacity,total superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity,and glutathione peroxidase(GPx)activity,as well as decreasing the level of 4-hydroxynonenal(4-HNE).Exendin(9-39)administration partially reversed these effects.Furthermore,dapagliflozin upregulated the glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1)level in plasma and GLP-1R expression by promoting AKT8 virus oncogene cellular homolog(Akt)phosphorylation in testicular tissue.Exendin(9-39)partially inhibited Akt phosphorylation.These results suggest that dapagliflozin protects against diabetes-induced spermatogenic dysfunction via activation of the GLP-1R/phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)/Akt signaling pathway.Our results indicate the potential effects of dapagliflozin against diabetes-induced spermatogenic dysfunction.

Pancreatic β cell regeneration induced by clinical and preclinical agents

Diabetes,one of the most common chronic diseases in the modern world,has pancreaticβcell deficiency as a major part of its pathophysiological mechanism.Pancreatic regeneration is a potential therapeutic strategy for the recovery ofβcell loss.However,endocrine islets have limited regenerative capacity,especially in adult humans.Almost all hypoglycemic drugs can protectβcells by inhibitingβcell apoptosis and dedifferentiation via correction of hyperglycemia and amelioration of the consequent inflammation and oxidative stress.Several agents,including glucagon-like peptide-1 andγ-aminobutyric acid,have been shown to promoteβcell proliferation,which is considered the main source of the regeneratedβcells in adult rodents,but with less clarity in humans.Pancreatic progenitor cells might exist and be activated under particular circumstances.Artemisinins andγ-aminobutyric acid can induceα-to-βcell conversion,although some disputes exist.Intestinal endocrine progenitors can transdeterminate into insulin-producing cells in the gut after FoxO1 deletion,and pharmacological research into FoxO1 inhibition is ongoing.Other cells,including pancreatic acinar cells,can transdifferentiate intoβcells,and clinical and preclinical strategies are currently underway.In this review,we summarize the clinical and preclinical agents used in different approaches forβcell regeneration and make some suggestions regarding future perspectives for clinical application.

Robust adaptive radar beamforming based on iterative training sample selection using kurtosis of generalized inner product statistics

In engineering application,there is only one adaptive weights estimated by most of traditional early warning radars for adaptive interference suppression in a pulse reputation interval(PRI).Therefore,if the training samples used to calculate the weight vector does not contain the jamming,then the jamming cannot be removed by adaptive spatial filtering.If the weight vector is constantly updated in the range dimension,the training data may contain target echo signals,resulting in signal cancellation effect.To cope with the situation that the training samples are contaminated by target signal,an iterative training sample selection method based on non-homogeneous detector(NHD)is proposed in this paper for updating the weight vector in entire range dimension.The principle is presented,and the validity is proven by simulation results.

Use of Evidence-Based Research Approach in RCTs of Acupuncture-Related Therapies for Primary Dysmenorrhea: A Meta-Research

Objective To assess the use of evidence-based research(EBR)approach in randomized controlled trials(RCTs)of acupuncture-related therapies for primary dysmenorrhea(PD).Methods PubMed,EMBASE,Cochrane Library,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang Database,Chinese Biomedical Database,and China Science and Technology Journal Database were searched from January 2013 to December 2022 for RCTs of acupuncture on PD.The full text and references of each RCT were read to assess whether systematic reviews(SRs)or other types of studies with similar research questions and end-users’perspectives were cited to justify and design the trial.In addition,the discussion section were analyzed to evaluate whether trials placed the new result in the existing SRs to draw a conclusion.Multivariable logistic regression was used to find variables that associated with 3 aspects of EBR approach:(1)citing clinical studies for justification,(2)citing relevant studies that obtain the perspectives of end users,and(3)citing clinical studies for results discussion.Results Of 473 RCTs included,45.67%(216)of the trials cited relevant similar studies,21.56%(102)referenced to the studies that collected end-users’perspectives,and 10.99%(52)placed result in the context of the previous research.Few RCTs appropriately applied EBR approach.Among all the included studies,3.17%(15)of the trials used SRs to inform study questions but none of them used updated SRs with acceptable quality;1.05%(5)of the trials cited SRs of end-user’s perspectives in the justification and design of the study,and only 1 trial added results in existing SR to draw a conclusion.Year of publication,language,funding,registration,ethical approval and number of sites were significantly associated with 1 of the 3 aspects of EBR approach.Conclusions Few RCTs in acupuncture-related therapies for PD used the EBR approach to minimize research redundancy.Researchers,research institutes,funding agencies,ethics committees,journals and peer reviewers in acupuncture should make efforts to

A new method for evaluating the firing precision of multiple launch rocket system based on Bayesian theory

How to effectively evaluate the firing precision of weapon equipment at low cost is one of the core contents of improving the test level of weapon system.A new method to evaluate the firing precision of the MLRS considering the credibility of simulation system based on Bayesian theory is proposed in this paper.First of all,a comprehensive index system for the credibility of the simulation system of the firing precision of the MLRS is constructed combined with the group analytic hierarchy process.A modified method for determining the comprehensive weight of the index is established to improve the rationality of the index weight coefficients.The Bayesian posterior estimation formula of firing precision considering prior information is derived in the form of mixed prior distribution,and the rationality of prior information used in estimation model is discussed quantitatively.With the simulation tests,the different evaluation methods are compared to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.Finally,the experimental results show that the effectiveness of estimation method for firing precision is improved by more than 25%.

Hollow Ni Mo-based nitride heterojunction with super-hydrophilic/aerophobic surface for efficient urea-assisted hydrogen production

Hydrogen evolution reaction（HER） and urea oxidation reaction（UOR） are key reactions of the watercycling associated catalytic process/device.The design of catalysts with a super-hydrophilic/aerophobic structure and optimized electron distribution holds great promise.Here,we have designed a threedimensional（3D） hollow Ni/NiMoN hierarchical structure with arrayed-sheet surface based on a onepot hydrothermal route for efficient urea-assisted HER based on a simple hydrothermal process.The Ni/NiMoN catalyst exhibits super-hydrophilic/aerophobic properties with a small droplet contact angle of 6.07° and an underwater bubble contact angle of 155.7°,thus facilitating an escape of bubbles from the electrodes.Density functional theory calculations and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results indicate the optimized electronic structure at the interface of Ni and NiMoN,which can promote the adsorption/desorption of reactants and intermediates.The virtues combining with a large specific surface area endow Ni/NiMoN with efficient catalytic activity of low potentials of 25 mV for HER and 1.33 V for UOR at10 mA cm-2.The coupled HER and UOR system demonstrates a low cell voltage of 1.42 V at 10 mA cm-2,which is approximately 209 mV lower than water electrolysis.

Core-shell mesoporous carbon hollow spheres as Se hosts for advanced Al-Se batteries

Incorporating a selenium(Se)positive electrode into aluminum(Al)-ion batteries is an effective strategy for improving the overall battery performance.However,the cycling stability of Se positive electrodes has challenges due to the dissolution of intermediate reaction products.In this work,we aim to harness the advantages of Se while reducing its limitations by preparing a core-shell mesoporous carbon hollow sphere with a titanium nitride(C@TiN)host to load 63.9wt%Se as the positive electrode material for Al-Se batteries.Using the physical and chemical confinement offered by the hollow mesoporous carbon and TiN,the obtained core-shell mesoporous carbon hollow spheres coated with Se(Se@C@TiN)display superior utilization of the active material and remarkable cycling stability.As a result,Al-Se batteries equipped with the as-prepared Se@C@TiN composite positive electrodes show an initial discharge specific capacity of 377 mAh·g^(-1)at a current density of 1000 mA·g^(-1)while maintaining a discharge specific capacity of 86.0 mAh·g^(-1)over 200 cycles.This improved cycling performance is ascribed to the high electrical conductivity of the core-shell mesoporous carbon hollow spheres and the unique three-dimensional hierarchical architecture of Se@C@TiN.

Energy budget of cold and hot gas-solid fluidized beds through CFD-DEM simulations

Direct energy budget is carried out for both cold and hot flow in gas–solid fluidization systems.First,the energy paths are proposed from thermodynamic viewpoints.Energy consumption means total power input to the specific system,and it can be decomposed into energy retention and energy dissipation.Energy retention is the variation of accumulated mechanical energy in the system,and energy dissipation is the energy converted to heat by irreversible processes.Then based on the Computational Fluid Dynamics-Discrete Element Method(CFD-DEM)framework,different energy terms are quantified from the specific flow elements of fluid cells and particles as well as their interactions with the wall.In order to clarify the energy budget,it is important to identify which system is studied:the particle-fluid system or the particle sub-system.For the cold flow,the total energy consumption of the particle sub-system can well indicate the onset of bubbling and turbulent,while the variation of local energy consumption terms can reflect the evolution of heterogeneous structures.For the hot flow,different heat transfer mechanisms are analyzed and the solver is modified to reproduce the experimental results.The impact of the heat transfer mechanisms and heat production on energy consumption is also investigated.The proposed budget method has proven to be energy-conservative and easy to conduct,and it is hopeful to be applied to other multiphase flow systems.

Esophageal cancer is an upper gastrointestinal malignancy with a bleak prognosis.It is still being explored in depth due to its complex molecular mechanisms of occurrence and development.Lipids play a crucial role in cells by participating in energy supply,biofilm formation,and signal transduction processes,and lipid metabolic reprogramming also constitutes a significant characteristic of malignant tumors.More and more studies have found esophageal cancer has obvious lipid metabolism abnormalities throughout its beginning,progress,and treatment resistance.The inhibition of tumor growth and the enhancement of antitumor therapy efficacy can be achieved through the regulation of lipid metabolism.Therefore,we reviewed and analyzed the research results and latest findings for lipid metabolism and associated analysis techniques in esophageal cancer,and comprehensively proved the value of lipid metabolic reprogramming in the evolution and treatment resistance of esophageal cancer,as well as its significance in exploring potential therapeutic targets and biomarkers.
