A new interacting capillary bundle model on the multiphase flow in micropores of tight rocks

Surfactants are widely used in the fracturing fluid to enhance the imbibition and thus the oil recovery rate. However, current numerical models cannot capture the physics behind capillary imbibition during the wettability alteration by surfactants. Although the interacting capillary bundle(ICB) model shows potential in characterizing imbibition rates in different pores during wettability alteration, the existing ICB models neglect the influence of wettability and viscosity ratio on the imbibition behavior, making it difficult to accurately describe the oil-water imbibition behavior within the porous media. In this work,a new ICB mathematical model is established by introducing pressure balance without assuming the position of the leading front to comprehensively describe the imbibition behavior in a porous medium under different conditions, including gas-liquid spontaneous imbibition and oil-water *** the pore size distribution of a tight rock is known, this new model can predict the changes of water saturation during the displacement process in the tight rock, and also determine the imbibition rate in pores of different sizes. The water saturation profiles obtained from the new model are validated against the waterflooding simulation results from the CMG, while the imbibition rates calculated by the model are validated against the experimental observations of gas-liquid spontaneous imbibition. The good match above indicates the newly proposed model can show the water saturation profile at a macroscopic scale while capture the underlying physics of the multiphase flow in a porous medium at a microscopic scale. Simulation results obtained from this model indicate that both wettability and viscosity ratio can affect the sequence of fluid imbibition into pores of different sizes during the multiphase flow, where less-viscous wetting fluid is preferentially imbibed into larger pores while more-viscous wetting fluid tends to be imbibed into smaller pores. Countercurrent imbibition in low-permeability porous media: Nondiffusive behavior and implications in tight oil recovery

Countercurrent imbibition is an important mechanism for tight oil recovery,that is,water imbibes spontaneously from the fracture into the porous matrix while oil flows reversely into the *** significance over cocurrent imbibition and forced imbibition is highlighted when permeability *** used the computed tomography(CT)scanning to measure the one-dimensional evolution of water saturation profile and countercurrent imbibition distance(CID)at different fluid pressures,initial water saturations,and ***,experiments show that CID evolution for tight reservoir cores dramatically deviates from the classical diffusive rule(i.e.,evolutes proportional to square root of time,t^(0.5)).At early stage,CID extends faster than t^(0.5)(super-diffusive);while at late stage,CID extends much slower than t^(0.5)(sub-diffusive).After tens of hours,the CID change becomes too slow to be practically efficient for tight oil *** research demonstrates that this deviation from classic theory is a result of(1)a much longer characteristic capillary length than effective invasion depth,which eliminates full development of a classical displacement front;and(2)non-zero flow at low water saturation,which was always neglected for conventional reservoir and is amplified in sub-mili-Darcy *** well depict the details of the imbibition front in this situation,we introduce non-zero wetting phase fluidity at low saturation into classical countercurrent imbibition model and conduct numerical simulations,which successfully rationalizes the non-diffusive behavior and fits experimental *** data and theory imply an optimum soaking time in tight oil recovery by countercurrent imbibition,beyond which increasing exposed fracture surface area becomes a more efficient enhanced oil recovery(EOR)strategy than soaking for longer time.

Enhanced battery life prediction with reduced data demand via semi-supervised representation learning

Accurate prediction of the remaining useful life(RUL) is crucial for the design and management of lithium-ion *** various machine learning models offer promising predictions,one critical but often overlooked challenge is their demand for considerable run-to-failure data for *** of such training data leads to prohibitive testing efforts as the run-to-failure tests can last for ***,we propose a semi-supervised representation learning method to enhance prediction accuracy by learning from data without RUL *** approach builds on a sophisticated deep neural network that comprises an encoder and three decoder heads to extract time-dependent representation features from short-term battery operating data regardless of the existence of RUL *** approach is validated using three datasets collected from 34 batteries operating under various conditions,encompassing over 19,900 charge and discharge *** method achieves a root mean squared error(RMSE)within 25 cycles,even when only 1/50 of the training dataset is labelled,representing a reduction of 48%compared to the conventional *** also demonstrate the method's robustness with varying numbers of labelled data and different weights assigned to the three decoder *** projection of extracted features in low space reveals that our method effectively learns degradation features from unlabelled *** approach highlights the promise of utilising semi-supervised learning to reduce the data demand for reliability monitoring of energy devices.

Sky location of massive black hole binaries in the foreground of Galactic white dwarf binaries

For space-based gravitational wave(GW)detection,the main noise source for massive black hole binaries(MBHBs)is attributed to approximately 107 double white dwarf binaries in the *** a GW source,the amplitude of the detector response,recorded by a space-based gravitational wave detector,exhibits a modulation effect with a year period when observing the source from various orbital *** the adverse conditions mentioned above,where there is a strong foreground noise and annual modulation in the signals,we employed the wavelet transform and the strong-amplitude relevant orbital position search methods,which allows the weak MBHB sources to achieve higher locating *** detail,for two MBHB sources of lower intensity,the precision of luminosity distance,represented by the ratioΔD_(L)/D_(L) at the 95%confidence level,is enhanced by factors of∼*** angular resolutions,denoted byΔΩs,are enhanced by a factor of∼*** improvements increase the number of detectable GW sources,facilitate multi-messenger follow-up observations and provide constraints on the cosmological constant.

Using the AdS/CFT correspondence,this paper investigates the holographic images of a charged black hole within the context of Lorentz symmetry breaking massive *** photon rings,luminosity-deformed rings,or light points from various observational perspectives are *** also study the influences of both the chemical potential and temperature on the Einstein *** the previous work,which primarily examines the effect of chemical potential on ring radius at high temperatures and find no change in the radius with varying chemical potential,we also investigate the effect of chemical potential on the ring radius at low temperature besides at high *** findings indicate that at low temperatures,the photon ring radius decreases with increasing of chemical potential,while at high temperatures,the results are consistent with previous ***,we explore the impact of the model parameterλon the Einstein ring radius and find the the ring radius increases as the model parameterλ*** interestingly,for the large chemical potential,u=1,the temperature dependence of the photon ring radius is reversed forλ=2 andλ=***,for a small chemical potential u=0.1,the temperature dependence of the Einstein ring stays the same asλ=2 andλ=4.

Charge polarity inversion and zincophilicity improvement for chitosan separator towards durable aqueous zinc-ion batteries

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries encounter enormous challenges such as Zn dendrites and parasitic *** modification is a highly effective strategy to address these *** the advantages of low cost,nontoxicity,biodegradability,good film-forming ability,superior hydro phi licity,and rich functional groups,chitosan is an ideal matrix for constructing ***,the presence of positive charges within chitosan in weakly acidic electrolytes is unfavorable for dendrite ***,Schiff base reaction is introduced to modify chitosan matrix,transforming its charge polarity from positive to ***,NbN with excellent zincophilicity is coated onto chitosan matrix,forming a Janus separator with low thickness of 19 μm and considerably improved mechanical *** resultant separator can promote the transport of Zn2+ions while triggering a repulsive shielding effect against anions,therefore dramatically enhancing Zn2+ion transfer number from 0.28 to *** separator can also facilitate desolvation process,improve exchange current density,restrict two-dimensional Zn2+ion diffusion,and enhance electrochemical kinetics,contributing to significantly inhibited dendrite growth,by-product formation,and hydrogen ***,stable and reversible Zn stripping/plating process is enabled for over 2500 h at 2 mA cm-2and 2 mAh *** great rate capability and excellent cyclability can be achieved for full batteries even under harsh *** work provides new insights into separator design for Zn-based batteries.

Insight into catalytic performance and reaction mechanism for toluene total oxidation over Cu-Ce supported catalyst

Herein,three supported catalysts,CuO/Al_(2)O_(3),CeO_(2)/Al_(2)O_(3),and CuO-CeO_(2)/Al_(2)O_(3),were synthesized by the convenient impregnation method to reveal the effect of CeO_(2)addition on catalytic performance and reaction mechanism for toluene *** with CuO/Al_(2)O_(3),the T_(50)and T_(90)(the temperatures at 50%and 90%toluene conversion,respectively)of CuO-CeO_(2)/Al_(2)O_(3)were reduced by 33 and 39°C,respectively.N_(2)adsorptiondesorption experiment,XRD,SEM,EDS mapping,Raman,EPR,H_(2)-TPR,O_(2)-TPD,XPS,NH_(3)-TPD,Toluene-TPD,and in-situ DRIFTS were conducted to characterize these *** excellent catalytic performance of CuO-CeO_(2)/Al_(2)O_(3)could be attributed to its strong coppercerium interaction and high oxygen vacancies ***,in-situ DRIFTS proved that CuO-CeO_(2)/Al_(2)O_(3)promoted the conversion of toluene to benzoate and accelerated the deep degradation path of *** work provided valuable insights into the development of efficient and economical catalysts for volatile organic compounds.

Magnetic refrigeration（MR） technology is regarded as an ideal solution for cryogenic applications,relying on magnetocaloric materials which provide necessary chilling effect.A series of polycrystalline Tm1-xErxNi2Si2（x=0.2,0.4） compounds was synthesized,and their magnetic properties,magnetic phase transition together with magnetocaloric effect（MCE） were *** Tm1-xErxNi2Si2（x=0.2,0.4）compounds display a field-induced metamagnetic transition from antiferromagnetic（AFM） to ferromagnetism（FM） in excess of 0.2 T,***,the AFM ground state is *** the field change of 0-2 T,the values of maximal magnetic entropy change(-ΔSMmax) and refrigerant capacity（RC） for Tm0.8Er0.2Ni2Si2compound are 17.9 J/（kg·K） and 83.5 J/kg,*** large reversible MCE under low magnetic fields（≤2 T） indicates that Tm0.8Er0.2Ni2Si2compound can serve as potential candidate materials for cryogenic magnetic refrigeration.
