The energy dissipation pathways of a photosensitizer for phototherapies,including photodynamic therapy(PDT)and photothermal therapy(PTT),compete directly with that of itsﬂuorescence(FL)*** heavy atoms on theπ-conjugated systems and aggregation-caused quenching are two effective methods to turn off the FL emission of photosensitizers,which is expected to boost the inter-system crossing(for PDT)and nonradiative transition(for PTT)of photosensitizers for maximized phototherapeutic efﬁ*** this approach,an all-iodine-substituted polydiacetylene aggregate poly(diiododiacetylene)(PIDA)has been developed,which shows a superior near infrared absorption(ε_(808nm)=26.1 g^(-1) cm^(-1) L)with completely blocked FL,as well as high efﬁciency of reactive oxygen species generation(nearly 45 folds of indocyanine green)and photothermal conversion(33.4%).To make the insolubleﬁbrillar PIDA aggregates favorable for systemic administration,they are converted into nanospheres through a pre-polymerization morphology transformation *** in vivo study on a 4T1 tumor-bearing mouse model demonstrates that PIDA nanospheres can almost eliminate the tumor entirely in 16 days and prolong the survival time of mice to over 60 days,validating their effective phototherapeutic response through the strategy of inhibiting FL for boosted intersystem crossing and nonradiative transition.

Organic matter occurrence and pore-forming mechanisms in lacustrine shales in China

The evolution of pore structure in shales is affected by both the thermal evolution of organic matter(OM)and by inorganic diagenesis,resulting in a wide variety of pore *** paper examines the OM distribution in lacustrine shales and its influence on pore structure,and describes the process of porosity *** principal findings are:(i)Three distribution patterns of OM in lacustrine shales are distinguished;laminated continuous distribution,clumped distribution,and stellate scattered *** differences in total organic carbon(TOC)content,free hydrocarbon content(S_(1)),and OM porosity among these distribution patterns are discussed.(ii)Porosity is negatively correlated with TOC and plagioclase content and positively correlated with quartz,dolomite,and clay mineral content.(iii)Pore evolution in lacustrine shales is characterized by a sequence of decreasing-increasing-decreasing porosity,followed by continuously increasing porosity until a relatively stable condition is reached.(iv)A new model for evaluating porosity in lacustrine shales is *** this model,the organic and inorganic porosity of shales in the Permian Lucaogou Formation are calculated to be 2.5%-5%and 1%-6.3%,respectively,which correlate closely with measured *** findings may provide a scientific basis and technical support for the sweet spotting in lacustrine shales in China.

Information entropy-based fitting of the disease trajectory of brain ischemia-induced vascular cognitive impairment

The present study investigated the disease trajectory of vascular cognitive impairment using the entropy of information in a neural network mathematical simulation based on the free radical and excitatory amino acids theories. Glutamate, malondialdehyde, and inducible nitric oxide synthase content was significantly elevated, but acetylcholine, catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and constitutive nitric oxide synthase content was significantly decreased in our vascular cognitive impairment model. The fitting curves for each factor were obtained using Matlab software. Nineteen, 30 and 49 days post ischemia were the main output time frames of the influence of these seven factors. Our results demonstrated that vascular cognitive impairment involves multiple factors. These factors include excitatory amino acid toxicity and nitric oxide toxicity. These toxicities disrupt the dynamic equilibrium of the production and removal of oxygen free radicals after cerebral ischemia, reducing the ability to clear oxygen free radicals and worsening brain injury.

Tailoring biochar by PHP towards the oxygenated functional groups(OFGs)-rich surface to improve adsorption performance

In this work,a modification method of H_(3)PO_(4)plus H_(2)O_(2)(PHP)was introduced to targetedly form abundant oxygenated functional groups(OFGs)on biochar,and methylene blue(MB)was employed as a model pollutant for adsorption to reflect the modification *** indicated that parent biochars,especially derived from lower temperatures,substantially underwent oxidative modification by PHP,and OFGs were targetedly ***,approximately 21.5-fold MB adsorption capacity was achieved by PHP-modified biochar comparing with its parent *** evaluate the compatibility of PHP-modification,coefficient of variation(CV)based on MB adsorption capacity by the biochar from various precursors was calculated,in which the CV of PHP-modified biochars was 0.0038 comparing to0.64 of the corresponding parent *** results suggested that the PHP method displayed the excellent feedstock compatibility on biochar *** maximum MB adsorption capacity was454.1 mg/g when the H_(3)PO_(4)and H_(2)O_(2)fraction in PHP were 65.2%and 7.0%;the modification was further intensified by promoting temperature and ***,average 94.5%H_(3)PO_(4)was recovered after 10-batch modification,implying 1.0 kg H_(3)PO_(4)(85%)in PHP can maximally modify 2.37 kg ***,this work offered a novel method to tailor biochar towards OFGs-rich surface for efficient adsorption.

The practice of artificial tracheal prosthesis has been a major challenge to the entire surgical field worldwide until now. The previously applied prosthesis is ＂inner stent＂ type, which is unable to heal biologically with native trachea, The newly developed design, the zhao＇s artificial trachea, uses a memory alloy mesh combined with traditional operation procedures. Following a 2-year experimental period, the device has been applied to seven patients with satisfying results.

Cryogenic pre-deformation treatment has been widely used to effectively improve the comprehensive mechanical properties of steels and novel ***,the dislocation evolution and phase transformation induced by different degrees of deep cryogenic deformation are not yet fully *** this study,the effects of multiple cryogenic pre-treatments on the mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms of a paramagnetic Fe_(63.3)Mn_(14-)Si_(9.1)Cr_(9.8)C_(3.8)medium-entropy alloy(MEA)were investigated,leading to the discovery of a pretreated MEA that exhibits exceptional mechanical properties,including a fracture strength of 3.0 GPa,plastic strain of 26.1%and work-hardening index of *** addition,X-ray diffraction(XRD)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM)analyses revealed that multiple cryogenic pre-deformation treatments significantly increased the dislocation density of the MEA(from 9×10^(15)to 4×10^(16)m^(-2)after three pretreatments),along with a transition in the dislocation type from predominantly edge dislocations to mixed dislocations(including screw-and edge-type dislocations).Notably,this pretreated MEA retained its paramagnetic properties(μ_(r)<1.0200)even after *** calculations showed that cryogenic pretreatment can significantly reduce the stacking fault energy of the MEA by a factor of approximately four(i.e.,from 9.7 to2.6 m J·m^(-2)),thereby activating the synergistic effects of transformation-induced plasticity,twinning-induced plasticity and dislocation strengthening *** synergistic effects lead to simultaneous strength and ductility enhancement of the MEA.

High-performance martensitic stainless steel nanocomposite powder for direct energy deposition prepared by ball milling

Direct energy deposition(DED)has great potential for the production of stainless steel matrix nanocomposite ***,the propensity of nanoparticle agglomeration leads to the difficulty in realizing homogenous dispersion of nanoparticles in the *** this study,a series of agglomeration-free nanoWC-Co-reinforced 420 stainless steel matrix nanocomposite powders with high flowability were prepared by ball milling under the optimal *** effect of ball milling time on the properties of the composite powders was *** powder properties ensure the DED processing ***,the corresponding composites were fabricated by DED,and the effects of nano-WC-Co content on the properties of the composites were comprehensively *** contact angles between the single pass cladding layer and the substrate change with increasing nano-WC-Co content(decrease from 127.38°to 113.07°).The different contact angles will significantly influence the quality of the multipass cladding ***,the addition of nanoWC-Co leads not only to further grain refinement but also to more pronounced isotropy of the micros *** the increase in nano-WC-Co content,the corrosion resistance is significantly improved(62.28%lower corrosion current for 420-15 wt%nano-WC-Co than for 420).

MD simulation on the interactions between CH＿2 groups and the(001) surface of tungsten

This work studies the angle dependence of the interactions between impinging CH2 particles of 150 eV with the tungsten surface. The simulations show that the carbon atoms are much more easily bonded to the tungsten atoms than hydrogen atoms, though a few of the latter can also penetrate into the tungsten material. When the incidence angle is greater than 75%, the incident CH2 particles are reflected without break-ups. Below this angle, a W-C layer of about 0.5 nm is formed with another C, H-rich layer depositing on top of it. The molecular dynamics （MD） approach has proved to be a powerful tool to solve the structural problems at atomic length scale of various materials. Some of its possible applications to the railway track materials have also been discussed.

Irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea(IBS-D)is chronic intestinal dysfunction with diarrhea and othercomplicated clinical symptoms,and it has a great impact on the daily life and mental state of *** studies have reported that ingestion of probiotics can significantly alleviate a variety of *** pupose of this study was to investigate the IBS-D-alleviating effects of a probiotic strain,lactobacillus plantarum(***)CCFM8610,with multiple health-promoting *** studywas a 12-week,randomized,double-blind,placebo-controlled,pilot clinical ***-five patientswere randomly assigned to receive the placebo,oligosaccharides,or *** CCFM8610(1×10^(10) colony-forming units(CFU)per day),with a 2-week run-in period,an 8-week intervention period,anda 2-week follow-up observation *** patients'clinical symptoms and quality of life were exam-ined by the IBS symptom severity scale(IBS-SsS)and the IlBS quality of life scale(IBS-QOL).Changes ingut microbiota composition and diversity were measured at the end of the intervention *** oraladministration of *** CCFM8610 significantly decreased the IBS-SSS and IBS-QOL scores,reduced IBS-D symptom severity,recovered gut microbiota diversity,decreased the relative abundanceof bloating-related genus Methanobrevibacter,and increased the relative abundance of butyric acid-producing genera,including Anaerostipes,Anaerotruncus,Bifidobacterium,Butyricimonas,*** findings suggest that ingestion of *** CCFM8610 can significantly alleviate clinical symptoms and gut microbiota dysbiosis in IBS-D *** IBS-D-alleviating effect of ***-tarum CCFM8610 may be related to theincrease in the relative abundance of butyric acid-producing genera in the intestine.
