Association of sleep quality with sociodemographic factors and lifestyle in adolescents from southern Brazil

Background Good sleep quality is an essential component for growth, development, and physical and mental health of the individual, in addition to being a positive indicator of health and well-being. The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of poor sleep quality and to identify the association of poor sleep quality with sociodemographic factors, lifestyle, weight status, and associated aerobic fitness in adolescents. Methods This study included 1110 students aged 14–19 years from city of S?o José/SC, Brazil. Sleep quality of the subjects was assessed using a questionnaire and classified as adequate and low. Independent variables were gender, age, monthly household income, maternal education, school shift, global physical activity, proper diet, screen time, sleeping hours of full week, sleeping hours of weekdays, sleeping hours of weekends, weight status, and aerobic fitness. Binary logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios and confidence intervals of 95%. Results Prevalence of poor sleep quality was 60.4%. More likely to have poor sleep quality were identified in female students (OR 1.68, 95% CI 1.11–2.55), whose mothers had higher levels of education (OR 1.44, 95% CI 1.20–1.73) and low aerobic fitness (OR 1.80, 95% CI 1.02–3.19). Conclusion Adolescents who were most likely to report poor sleep quality were female, those whose mothers had a higher educational level and had low aerobic fitness. Students with sedentary risk behavior were less likely of reporting poor sleep quality.

The effect of ethanol fuel dilution on oil performance and MoDTC tribofilms formation and composition

Ethanol has emerged as a promising alternative to fossil fuels,but its use can lead to significant dilution in lubricants,particularly during cold start or heavy *** dilution can affect the performance of additives,including friction modifiers like molybdenum dithiocarbamate(MoDTC),which are designed to reduce friction under extreme contact *** research suggests that ethanol may impact the performance of MoDTC,prompting this study’s goal to investigate the effects of ethanol on MoDTC tribofilms and their friction response under boundary lubrication ***,reciprocating tribological tests were performed with fully formulated lubricants containing MoDTC with varying ethanol *** results indicate that a critical ethanol dilution level inhibits friction reduction by MoDTC activation,resulting in friction coefficients(COFs)similar to the base *** tested with simple mixtures of polyalphaolefin(PAO)+MoDTC showed increased COFs with added *** of tested surfaces using Raman spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and X-ray absorption spectroscopy near the edge structure(XANES)revealed the presence of sulfates,MoO_(3),MoS_(2),and MoS_(x)O_(y)compounds in the tribofilms formed on the surfaces,with and without ethanol diluted in the ***,the addition of ethanol increased the sulfates and MoO_(3)content of the tribofilms at the expense of friction-reducing compounds such as MoS_(2)and MoS_(x)O_(y).These findings suggest that ethanol dilution in lubricants containing MoDTC creates an oxygen-rich interfacial medium that favors the formation of compounds with insufficient friction-reducing capabilities.

In the past decades there was no need for a transshipment port for West Africa, mainly because of the weak containerized traffic in the region, therefore making it economically unattractive to settle and develop a major transshipment *** recently the region has seen a great development;in the last decade Africa was the second continent with the fastest GDP growth only behind Asia;this development stimulated trade, consequently increasing volumes traded and therefore how cargos are handled and transported. This increase is followed by the unceasing necessity of efficient cargo transportation, because in a globalized world product cycles are shortening making them more and more time sensitive. Therefore, containerized cargo, which makes cargo handling and transportation more efficient, has been increasing in the region and this growth is expected to endure with an average of 9.62% increase in the next five *** purpose of this study is to choose the best suitable location for a transshipment hub in West Africa;it is focused on the port of "Porto Grande" in Cape Verde, because of its strategic location at the crossroads of major international shipping routes in the mid-Atlantic *** study is important because it answer the question of whether is necessary or not to have a transshipment port in the region and therefore where is the most suitable location to develop a transshipment port.A rating scale method was used to select the most suitable port, based on the following variables:characteristics of the port and position;according to the variables analyzed in this study, the results showed that the port of "Porto Grande" is the most suitable port to be developed into a transshipment port, over ports like port of Dakar and *** found the transshipment port location, a cost analysis is necessary to determine if the development of a transshipment port is viable. During the rainy season in Brazil,landslides can have catastrophic consequences,including loss of life,damage to urban infrastructure and significant economic ***,more than eight million people in Brazil live in disaster-prone *** objective of this article is to present a chronological review of the principal policies and programmes at the national,state,and municipal levels,with an emphasis on their key actions aimed at mitigating the impact of disasters related to natural hazards,particularly *** analysis was based on official records of public policies from the national,state,and municipal *** results show that several initiatives were initially developed at the local and regional ***,it was not until the late 1980s that a comprehensive organisation of civil protection at the national level emerged as a response *** is possible to highlight three phases(understanding,coexistence,and prevention)of institutional action focused on risk management in the face of *** the growing knowledge of risk scenarios,disasters continue to occur in Brazil on an annual basis,revealing several obstacles to reducing their impact,particularly given the social and economic disparities between Brazilian regions and the applicability of public policies that must overcome the limitations of each municipality.

Accuracy of tree mapping based on hand-held laser scanning comparing leaf-on and leaf-off conditions in mixed forests

The use of mobile laser scanning to survey forest ecosystems is a promising,scalable technology to describe forest 3D structures at high *** confirm the con-sistency in the retrieval of forest structural parameters using hand-held laser scanning(HLS),before operationalizing the method,confirming the data is *** analyzed the per-formance of tree-level mapping based on HLS under differ-ent phenology conditions on a mixed forest in western Spain comprising Pinus pinaster and two deciduous species,Alnus glutinosa and Quercus *** area was surveyed twice during the growing season(July 2022)and once in the deciduous season(February 2022)using several scan-ning *** reference data(418 trees,15 snags)was used to calibrate the HLS data and to assess the influence of phenology when converting 3D data into tree-level attrib-utes(DBH,height and volume).The HLS-based workflow was robust at isolating tree positions and recognizing stems despite changes in ***-six percent of all pairs matched below 65 *** DBH,phenology barely altered *** observed a strong agreement when comparing HLS-based tree height *** values exceeded 2 m when comparing height measurements,confirming height data should be carefully used as reference in remote sensing-based inventories,especially for deciduous *** volume was more precise for pines(r=0.95,and rela-tive RMSE=21.3–23.8%)compared to deciduous species(r=0.91–0.96,and relative RMSE=27.3–30.5%).HLS data and the forest structural complexity tool performed remark-ably,especially in tree positioning considering mixed forests and mixed phenology conditions.

In late March 2020,SARS-CoV-2 arrived in Manaus,Brazil,and rapidly developed into a large-scale epidemic that collapsed the local health system and resulted in extreme death *** key studies reported that∼76%of residents of Manaus were infected(attack rate AR≃76%)by October 2020,suggesting protective herd immunity had been *** this,an unexpected second wave of COVID-19 struck again in November and proved to be larger than the first,creating a catastrophe for the unprepared *** has been suggested that this could be possible if the second wave was driven by ***,it is widely reported that reinfections were at a low rate(before the emergence of Omicron),and reinfections tend to be ***,we use novel methods to model the epidemic from mortality data without considering reinfection-caused deaths and evaluate the impact of interventions to explain why the second wave *** method fits a“flexible”reproductive numberR_(0)(t)that changes over the epidemic,and it is demonstrated that the method can successfully reconstruct R_(0)(t)from simulated *** Manaus,the method finds AR≃34%by October 2020 for the first wave,which is far less than required for herd immunity yet in-line with seroprevalence *** work is complemented by a two-strain *** genomic data,the model estimates transmissibility of the new P.1 virus lineage as 1.9 times higher than that of the ***,an age class model variant that considers the high mortality rates of older adults show very similar *** models thus provide a reasonable explanation for the two-wave dynamics in Manaus without the need to rely on large reinfection rates,which until now have only been found in negligible to moderate numbers in recent surveillance efforts.
