Evaluation of xylanase and a fermentable xylo-oligosaccharide on performance and ileal digestibility of broiler chickens fed energy and amino acid deficient diets

the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of a product consisting of a combination of xylanase and xylo-oligosaccharide(StBIO)on performance and ileal digestibility of broiler chickens fed energy and amino acid(AA)deficient ***-old male Ross 308 broiler chicks were randomly allocated to 8 pens per treatment,with 25 chicks per *** based on wheat-corn-soybean meal diets were arranged in a 3×2 factorial design:a positive control that met or exceeded nutrient recommendations(PC),a negative control diet with a 50 kcal/kg apparent metabolizable energy(AME)reduction(NC1)and NC1 with a 3%reduction in AA content(NC2),each with or without supplementation of 100 g/t of the *** weight gain(BWG),feed intake,feed conversion ratio corrected for mortality(FCR)and the European production efficiency factor(EPEF)were recorded from 0 to 42 *** d 42,ileal samples were collected to determine dry matter(DM),organic matter(OM),ash,protein and energy digestibility.A significant interaction was observed for BWG and feed intake(Pthe energy and AA reduction reduced(Pto the *** effect of StBIO on BWG was greater in NC1(+451 g/bird)than in NC2(+314 g/bird)or PC(+176 g/bird)diets(Pthat in NC2 with StBIO was equal to that in PC without StBIO,and that in NC1 with StBIO was equal to that in PC with *** interactions were observed on the EPEF or FCR;however,StBIO improved EPEF(Ptive of the energy reduction or AA *** intake of digestible DM,OM,ash and energy for the finisher period was increased with StBIO supplementation(Pt interaction was observed for the intake of digestible ***1 and NC2 reduced the intake of digestible protein;however,when StBIO was supplemented,it was improved in both diets to similar levels to the *** stimbiotic supplementation improved performance of broiler chickens fed all diets,particularly those deficient in AME and AA.

Xylanase, protease and superdosing phytase interactions in broiler performance, carcass yield and digesta transit time

the interaction of xylanase, protease and superdosing(1,500 FtU/kg) phytase in a 2×2×2 factorial arrangement was studied in broilers fed sorghum-based diets. A total of 2,800 one-day-old unsexed Ross308 chicks were housed in 56 pens with 50 birds per pen, with or without inclusion of xylanase, protease and phytase, totaling 8 treatments and 7 replicates per treatment. Body weight(BW) and feed intake(FI)were measured at 21 and 42 days of age, and mortality corrected feed conversion ratio(FCR) was calculated for each period and cumulatively. tibia ash and carcass yield were determined in 2 birds per replicate at 21 and 42 days of age, respectively. Digesta transit time was determined at 21, 28, 35 and 42 days of age using 5 birds per replicate. Results showed that superdosing phytase increased BW and FI at42 days of age(P tase also positively influenced carcass yield and breast weight, respectively. Overall, inclusion of superdosing phytase increased transit time when included in a diet containing xylanase, and no change with protease inclusion. In conclusion, the beneficial effects of xylanase, protease and superdosing phytase in broiler performance were not additive. this limitation is likely not related to the lack of efficacy of any one of the individual enzymes but to a limitation of the bird to respond additively to successive additions of enzymes.

Influence of fibre and betaine on development of the gastrointestinal tract of broilers between hatch and 14 d of age

An experiment was designed to determine the influence of fibre and betaine on the development of the intestine, liver and pancreas of broilers from hatch to 14 d of age. A total of 250-day-old Cobb 500 male broilers were allocated to 16 cages with 15 broilers each. treatments were arranged in a 2 x 4 factorial design, consisting of 2 feed formulations(low and high fibre diets) and 4 levels of betaine(0,1, 3 or 5 kg/t). At hatch, 10 birds in total were euthanised, and samples of the liver, pancreas, yolk sac and intestine were collected for reference of the analysed parameters before the start of the *** d 4.9 and 14, 5 birds per cage(10 birds per treatment) were selected, euthanised and treated as the same as the birds at hatch. Villus height and width and crypt depth were determined on the duodenum samples, and absorptive area was calculated. the number of enterocytes in mitosis at the villus was determined by a positive reaction to antibody for Ki67 protein, and fused villus was evaluated visually. the relative weight of the yolk sac reduced(P the intestine and liver reached a maximum(P t around d 4 and the pancreas at d 9. Birds fed the high fibre diet had greater feed intake, lower relative weight of the pancreas and higher villus(P than birds fed the low fibre diet. Villus width increased(P t 4 d of age, and this was associated with fused villus. Betaine inclusion reduced(P th, increased(P tive area, and reduced(P the number of enterocytes with positive reaction for the antibody *** inclusion reduced the width and increased the absorptive area and the villus height of the duodenum of birds up to 14 d of age. the higher fibre diet increased feed intake and villus height, yet reduced pancreas relative weight, while not affecting body weight gain. this response was possibly due to a dilution effect of the fibre, reducing nutrient absorption

Ethanol has emerged as a promising alternative to fossil fuels,but its use can lead to significant dilution in lubricants,particularly during cold start or heavy *** dilution can affect the performance of additives,including friction modifiers like molybdenum dithiocarbamate(MoDtC),which are designed to reduce friction under extreme contact *** research suggests that ethanol may impact the performance of MoDtC,prompting this study’s goal to investigate the effects of ethanol on MoDtC tribofilms and their friction response under boundary lubrication ***,reciprocating tribological tests were performed with fully formulated lubricants containing MoDtC with varying ethanol *** results indicate that a critical ethanol dilution level inhibits friction reduction by MoDtC activation,resulting in friction coefficients(COFs)similar to the base *** tested with simple mixtures of polyalphaolefin(PAO)+MoDtC showed increased COFs with added *** of tested surfaces using Raman spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and X-ray absorption spectroscopy near the edge structure(XANES)revealed the presence of sulfates,MoO_(3),MoS_(2),and MoS_(x)O_(y)compounds in the tribofilms formed on the surfaces,with and without ethanol diluted in the ***,the addition of ethanol increased the sulfates and MoO_(3)content of the tribofilms at the expense of friction-reducing compounds such as MoS_(2)and MoS_(x)O_(y).these findings suggest that ethanol dilution in lubricants containing MoDtC creates an oxygen-rich interfacial medium that favors the formation of compounds with insufficient friction-reducing capabilities.

During the rainy season in Brazil,landslides can have catastrophic consequences,including loss of life,damage to urban infrastructure and significant economic ***,more than eight million people in Brazil live in disaster-prone *** objective of this article is to present a chronological review of the principal policies and programmes at the national,state,and municipal levels,with an emphasis on their key actions aimed at mitigating the impact of disasters related to natural hazards,particularly *** analysis was based on official records of public policies from the national,state,and municipal *** results show that several initiatives were initially developed at the local and regional ***,it was not until the late 1980s that a comprehensive organisation of civil protection at the national level emerged as a response *** is possible to highlight three phases(understanding,coexistence,and prevention)of institutional action focused on risk management in the face of *** the growing knowledge of risk scenarios,disasters continue to occur in Brazil on an annual basis,revealing several obstacles to reducing their impact,particularly given the social and economic disparities between Brazilian regions and the applicability of public policies that must overcome the limitations of each municipality.

Accuracy of tree mapping based on hand-held laser scanning comparing leaf-on and leaf-off conditions in mixed forests

the use of mobile laser scanning to survey forest ecosystems is a promising,scalable technology to describe forest 3D structures at high *** confirm the con-sistency in the retrieval of forest structural parameters using hand-held laser scanning(HLS),before operationalizing the method,confirming the data is *** analyzed the per-formance of tree-level mapping based on HLS under differ-ent phenology conditions on a mixed forest in western Spain comprising Pinus pinaster and two deciduous species,Alnus glutinosa and Quercus *** area was surveyed twice during the growing season(July 2022)and once in the deciduous season(February 2022)using several scan-ning *** reference data(418 trees,15 snags)was used to calibrate the HLS data and to assess the influence of phenology when converting 3D data into tree-level attrib-utes(DBH,height and volume).the HLS-based workflow was robust at isolating tree positions and recognizing stems despite changes in ***-six percent of all pairs matched below 65 *** DBH,phenology barely altered *** observed a strong agreement when comparing HLS-based tree height *** values exceeded 2 m when comparing height measurements,confirming height data should be carefully used as reference in remote sensing-based inventories,especially for deciduous *** volume was more precise for pines(r=0.95,and rela-tive RMSE=21.3–23.8%)compared to deciduous species(r=0.91–0.96,and relative RMSE=27.3–30.5%).HLS data and the forest structural complexity tool performed remark-ably,especially in tree positioning considering mixed forests and mixed phenology conditions.

In late March 2020,SARS-CoV-2 arrived in Manaus,Brazil,and rapidly developed into a large-scale epidemic that collapsed the local health system and resulted in extreme death *** key studies reported that∼76%of residents of Manaus were infected(attack rate AR≃76%)by October 2020,suggesting protective herd immunity had been *** this,an unexpected second wave of COVID-19 struck again in November and proved to be larger than the first,creating a catastrophe for the unprepared *** has been suggested that this could be possible if the second wave was driven by ***,it is widely reported that reinfections were at a low rate(before the emergence of Omicron),and reinfections tend to be ***,we use novel methods to model the epidemic from mortality data without considering reinfection-caused deaths and evaluate the impact of interventions to explain why the second wave *** method fits a“flexible”reproductive numberR_(0)(t)that changes over the epidemic,and it is demonstrated that the method can successfully reconstruct R_(0)(t)from simulated *** Manaus,the method finds AR≃34%by October 2020 for the first wave,which is far less than required for herd immunity yet in-line with seroprevalence *** work is complemented by a two-strain *** genomic data,the model estimates transmissibility of the new P.1 virus lineage as 1.9 times higher than that of the ***,an age class model variant that considers the high mortality rates of older adults show very similar *** models thus provide a reasonable explanation for the two-wave dynamics in Manaus without the need to rely on large reinfection rates,which until now have only been found in negligible to moderate numbers in recent surveillance efforts.

Zika virus (ZIKV), a mosquito-borne flavivirus, has been associated with benign infections for decades. However, it has become a public health concern due to its association with severe fetal and neurological complications. Although many efforts have been made to control ZIKV infection, approved vaccines or antiviral drugs are still lacking. Consequently, the development of new effective anti-ZIKV agents is urgently needed. In this context, we investigated the antiviral potential of pyrazolone derivatives against ZIKV replication using in silico and in vitro methods. the four pyrazolone derivatives evaluated (1a, 1b, 1c, and 1d) inhibited over 50% of ZIKV replication with low cytotoxicity. Among them, compound 1b exhibited the most potent activity (EC50 = 4.3 μM) and the highest selectivity (SI = 342). Mechanism of action studies indicated that these compounds act at early stages of virus replication, and compound 1b can also directly inactivate ZIKV particles. Molecular docking studies suggested that these compounds can bind to and block the activity of ZIKV NS5 methyltransferase. Finally, pharmacokinetic and toxicological predictions have reinforced the safety and drug-like profiles of these derivatives. In conclusion, the pyrazolone scaffold proved to be valuable for anti-ZIKV drug development, and the derivatives studied deserve further investigation.

For decades the ecologists are using the same methods in order to determine the environmental health of a community,however,the crescent need on defining how these processes act,triggered the development of new methods that could classify the organisms and their function at the *** we used the anuran larvae to understand the effects of an environmental gradient on the structure and organization of the anuran assemblages along it,and to access in a realistic form,the actual state of preservation of the la rgest remnant of Atlantic Rainforest on the Southernmost portion of *** found that despite the higher diversity of species and the conservation unit status of the place,the ecosystem itself is still in danger,given the low number of functional groups and thus a higher number of ecosystem services that can be lost.

Rock slope hazard assessment is an important part of risk analysis for open pit *** main parameters that can lead to rock slope failures are the parameters traditionally used in geomechanical classifications,the slope geometrical parameters and external factors like rainfall and *** paper presents a methodology for a hazard assessment system for open pit mine slopes based on 88 cases collated around the world using principal components analysis,discriminant analysis and confidence *** historical cases used in this study included copper,gold,iron,diamond,lead and zinc,platinum and claystone *** variables used in the assessment methodology are uniaxial compressive strength of intact rock;spacing,persistence,opening,roughness,infilling and orientation of the main discontinuity set;weathering of the rock mass;groundwater;blasting method;and height and inclination of the *** principal component analysis was used to quantify the data,the discriminant analysis was used to establish a rule to classify new slopes about its stability *** provide a practical hazard assessment system,confidence ellipses were used to propose a hazard graph and generate the *** discriminant rule developed in this research has a high discrimination capacity with an error rate of 11.36%.
