Muscle strength and its association with cardiometabolic variables in adolescents:does the expression of muscle strength values matter?

Background We investigate the association between different muscle strength(MS)indices with cardiometabolic variables in *** Cross-sectional study comprising 351 adolescents(male 44.4%,age 16.6±1.0 years)from *** was assessed by handgrip strength and analyzed in live difrerent ways:absolute MS and MS normalized for body weight,body mass index(BMI),height,and fat mass,*** variables investigated as outcomes were systolic and diastolic blood pressure(DBP),waist circumference(WC),high-sensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP),lipid and glucose metabolism *** linear regression models adjusted for confounding factors were *** Absolute MS and/or MS normalized for height was directly associated with WC[up to 32.8 *** error(SE)=4.7]and DBP(up to 8.8 mmHg,SE=0.8),and inversely associated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(up to-8.0 mg/***=14.1).MS normalized for body *** or fat inass was inversely associated with WC(up to-17.5 cm,SE=2.2).According tesex,MS normalized for fat mass was inversely associated with triglycerides(male:0.02 times lower,SE=0.01;female:0.05 times lower,SE=0.01)and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance(male:0.02 times lower,SE=0.01;female:0.06 times ***=0.01).and inversely associated with hs-CRP only among male(0.03 times lower,SE=0.01).Conclusion When normalized for body weight,BMI or fat mass,MS was superior to absolute MS or MS normalized for height in representing adequately cardiometabolic variables among adolescents.

the objective of this study was to evaluate the concentration and distribution of heavy metals in the sediments of Paulo Gorski Lake, as well as the metals’ bioavailability and potential ecological risk, and to define the anthropogenic and natural heavy metal contributions to the lake. the chemical elements calcium(Ca), cadmium(Cd), cobalt(Co), chromium(Cr), copper(Cu), iron(fe), potassium(K), magnesium(Mg), manganese(Mn), sodium(Na), nickel(Ni), lead(Pb), and zinc(Zn) were quantified by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry with two extraction methods to quantify the bioavailable and nonbioavailable fractions. the data were evaluated using multivariate statistics and sediment quality *** sediment collection points(S1, S2, S3, S4 and S5) are different in terms of the concentration of heavy metals, except for S4 and S5, which were statistically equal. the bioavailable fraction of the elements in the sediment follows the sequence Pb > Cu > Mn > Zn > Ni > Cr > phosphorus(P) for all points. the elements Co, Cr, Pb, and Zn showed moderate to considerable contamination at all points. Only points S3 and S5 had moderate ecological risk. Urbanization has been affecting Paulo Gorski Lake via the input of chemical elements, especially Co and Pb. the points most affected by heavy metal contamination are S3 and S5 when the sedimentological sensitivity factor is considered. the lake has high hydrodynamics,causing some of the contaminants that enter the system to leave it, leading to potential negative impacts downstream.

Global climate changes have increased temperatures,radiation indexes,and consequently,irregularities in rainfall in mainly tropical countries,considerably hindering plant establishment in recovering degraded *** objective of this study was to evaluate the growth and physiological characteristics of one species of each successional group:pioneer,secondary,and climax when subjected to different light intensities and hydrogel as a soil conditioner during rainy and dry *** experiment was conducted in the ecotone between Brazil’s two largest biomes,the Cerrado and the Amazon in the State of Maranh?*** parameters consisted of three species:Guazuma ulmifolia Lam.(pioneer),Astronium fraxinifolium Schott(secondary),and Cariniana rubra Gardner ex Miers(climax).there were two light intensities:70%and 100%,and two planting conditions:with and without soil conditioner(hydrogel).Gas exchanges were higher during the rainy season;the pioneer and secondary species had greater heights and photosynthetic rates in the dry period;the climax species had the lowest gas exchange and lowest recovery as rainfall *** pioneer and secondary species showed higher physiological plasticity,denoting better adaption to environments with high *** improved the photosynthetic performance of these species in the dry season and in areas with 100%sunlight.

Chemical characterisation of particulate matter in urban transport modes

Electrooxidation of sulfanilamide and its voltammetric determination in pharmaceutical formulation,human urine and serum on glassy carbon electrode

for the first time, sulfanilamide(SfD) was determined in otologic solution, human urine and serum by electroanalytical techniques on glassy carbon electrode(GCE). the cyclic voltammetry(CV) experiments showed an irreversible oxidation peak at t 1.06 V in 0.1 mol/L BRBS(p H ? 2.0) at 50 m V/s. Different voltammetric scan rates(from 10 to 250 m V/s) suggested that the oxidation of SfD on the GCE was a diffusioncontrolled process. Square-wave voltammetry(SWV) method under optimized conditions showed a linear response to SfD from 5.0 to 74.7 μmol/L(R ? 0.999) with detection and quantification limits of 0.92 and3.10 μmol/L, respectively. the developed SWV method showed better results for detection limit and linear range than the chronoamperometry method. It has been successfully applied to determine SfD concentration in pharmaceutical formulation, human urine and serum samples with recovery close to 100%.

High-performance and Multi-functional Control of transformerless Single-phase Smart Inverter for Grid-connected PV System

Highly reliable and flexible control is required for distributed generation(DG) to efficiently connect to the *** inverters play a key role in the control and integration of DG into the power grid and provide advanced functionalities. In this paper, an energy-based single-phase voltage-source smart inverter(SPV-SSI) of 5 k VA is designed and analyzed in detail. SPV-SSI is capable of supplying the power to local load and the utility load up to the rated capacity of the inverter, injecting the power into the grid, storing the energy in lead-acid battery bank, controlling the voltage at the point of common coupling(PCC) during voltage sags or faults, and making decisions on real-time pricing information obtained from the utility grid through advanced metering. the complete design of smart inverter in dq frame, bi-directional DC-DC buck-boost converter, IEEE standard 1547 based islanding and recloser, and static synchronous compensator(StAtCOM) functionalities is presented in this paper. Moreover, adaptive controllers, i. e., fuzzy proportional-integral(f-PI) controller and fuzzy-sliding mode controller(f-SMC) are designed. the performances of f-PI controller and f-SMC are superior, stable, and robust compared with those of conventionally tuned PI controllers for voltage control loop(islanded mode) and current control loop(grid-connected mode).

Effects of two Isometric Strength training Methods on Jump and Sprint Performances:A Randomized Controlled trial

Purpose Isometric strength training (ISt) with rapid non-sustained contraction (RISt) is effective in improving the ability to generate force ***,the neuromuscular adaptation of ISt with sustained contraction (SISt) and RISt is not ***,the aim of the study was to compare the neuromuscular adaptations of RISt with *** thirty-three national floorball players (23.9 ± 3.1 years old;1.69± 0.08 m;64.6± 11.1 kg) were recruited for this ***-and post-test included countermovement jump (CMJ),30-m sprint (tt30),isometric squat at 90° (ISqt90) and 120° (ISqt120) knee *** were randomly assigned to either control (Con) (n =9),RISt (n =12) or SISt (n =12)group and performed 12 sessions of intervention *** groups performed the same sets of exercises,but RISt and SISt had to perform ISqt with and without sustained contraction,*** time × group effect for CMJ height (P =0.01,η2p=0.25),peak force (Pf) (P =0.03,η2p =0.22) and rate of force development (RfD) (P =0.02,η2p =0.22) obtained from ISqt 120 were noted.A main effect for time was observed in CMJ height,Pf obtained from ISqt90 and ISqt120,and RfD obtained from ISqt90 (P there was greater improvement in tt30 (P =0.043,d =3.00),ISqt90 Pf (P =0.034,d =3.12),ISqt 120 Pf (P =0.003,d =4.54) and ISqt120 RfD (P=0.033,d=1.36) in the SISt than the Con *** SISt was more effective in improving strength and dynamic performance as compared to RISt,making it a viable training method to enhance dynamic performances.
