Heterosis plays an important role in crop production and plant evolution. Although heterosis has been widely exploited by plant breeders, the underlying molecular mechanisms are not well understood. We analyzed gene expression of the highly heterotic maize hybrid Zhengdan 958 and its parents, Zheng 58 and Chang 7-2 during spikelet and floscule differentiation using the GeneChip Maize Genome Array. Pairwise comparison among Zhengdan 958 and its parents at the two stages of immature ear development identfied 1 089 and 1 352 differentially expressed genes. Gene ontology （GO） functional analysis showed that these genes participate in many functional categories, and those encoding response to stress and transcription factor may play important roles in heterosis. Pathway analysis showed that the differentially expressed genes are involved in various metabolic processes, and those participating in lipid metabolism, signal transduction, transport, and catabolism may contribute to heterosis. A non-additive expression pattern was prevalent in genes that were differentially expressed between the hybrid and its parents during both spikelet and floscule differentiation. Because genes that are differentially expressed in a hybrid and its parents could underlie heterosis, nonadditive expression patterns might contribute to the manifestation of heterosis.

Experimental research was conducted on the performance curves and the cavity evolution for different flow and geometric parameters in jet pumps for zero flow ratio(ZFR)*** pressure ratio,Pr,flow ratio,qr,were used in place of the conventional performance parameters h,q,to characterize the jet pump flow performance.A super cavitation cavity in the jet pump was observed to fill most of the flow channel,which hindered further increases of the flow rate and increased qr to one,thus,created a critical point on the new P_(r)-q_(r)^(2)*** the critical point,P_(r)was proportional to q_(r)^(2)with a coefficient that was much more sensitive to the area ratio than the relative throat length and the diffusion *** the critical point,the flow rate reached its maximum,the limiting flow rate,which only depended on the total inlet pressure and the area *** total inlet pressure was proportional to the square of the limiting flow rate with a flow coefficient that was only a quadratic function of the area ratio.

Genome-Wide Transcriptional Analysis of Yield and Heterosis-Associated Genes in Maize (Zea mays L.)

Heterosis has contributed greatly to yield in maize, but the nature of its contribution is not completely clear. In this study, two strategies using whole-genome oligonucleotide microarrays were employed to identify differentially expressed genes （DEGs） associated with heterosis and yield. The analysis revealed 1 838 heterosis-associated genes （HAGs）, 265 yield- associated genes （YAGs）, and 85 yield heterosis-associated genes （YHAGs）. 37.1% of HAGs and 22.4% of YHAGs expressed additively. The remaining genes expressed non-additively, including those with high/low-parent dominance and over/under dominance, which were prevalent in this research. Pathway enrichment analysis and quantitative trait locus （QTL） co-mapping demonstrated that the metabolic pathways for energy and carbohydrates were the two main enriched pathways influencing heterosis and yield. Therefore, the DEGs participating in energy and carbohydrate metabolism were considered to contribute to heterosis and yield significantly. The investigation of potential groups of HAGs, YAGs, and YHAGs might provide valuable information for exploiting heterosis to improve yield in maize breeding. In addition, our results support the view that heterosis is contributed by multiple, complex molecular mechanisms.

A method of using Au colloid to capture the decomposed product of penicillin, penicillamine, on a surface plasmon resonance（SPR） biosensor for the quantitative determination of penicillin was developed. Based on the de-composition of penicillin to generate penicillamine and penilloaldehyde, a high sensitive biosensor for detecting penicillin was also developed. In our experiment, it was penicillamine rather than penicillin that has been measured. This is because penicillamine contains a functional group that makes it self-assembling on Au colloid to increase the molecular weight so as to improve the surface plasmon resonance signal. On a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, a high concentration of penicilliamine-Au complex was determined, indicating that penicillamine was already well combined with Au colloid. The method, using the combination of Au colloid with penicillamine, proved to detect penicillin.

Objective：To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of sorafenib combined with cryoablation in treating unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC）.Methods：Patients with unresectable advanced HCC received cryoablation and sorafenib at a dose of 400 mg twice daily in 4-week cycles on the same day of the *** response,median overall survival and the median time to radiological progression were calculated and the toxicity was ***：Seventy-eight patients with unresectable HCC were involved in this *** median age was 52 years （range,22-81 years）.The Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group （ECOG） performance status scores were 0 （39.7%）,1 （55.1%）,and 2 （5.1%）.Nine （11.5%） patients were at Barcelona clinic liver cancer （BCLC） stage A,twenty-four （30.8%） patients were at stage B and 45 （57.7%） patients were at stage *** （6.4%） achieved partial responses,and 34 （43.6%） achieved stable *** median time to progression （TTP） for all enrolled patients was 6.6 months and the median overall survival （OS） was 12.2 ***：Cryoablation combined with sorafenib demonstrates good efficacy and acceptable tolerability in treating unresectable advanced HCC patients.
