Fibromyalgia of Women Who Gave Birth and Pregnancy Outcome Parameters

Fibromyalgia syndrome (FS) is a common chronic disease characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain in certain anatomic locations. Even though Fibromyalgia’s prevalence and common symptoms in pregnant women are known, many issues related to the consequences of mother’s fibromyalgia on pregnancy outcome have not been enough explored. The aim of this study is to highlight the relationship between fibromyalgia of women who gave birth and pregnancy outcome parameters like child delivery ways and newborn health. A first preliminary epidemiology study was thus carried out in the Bingerville general hospital. Our results showed that fibromyalgia was prevalent in women who gave birth as among 271 women who gave birth, 48.03% have fibromyalgia. A high frequency of women with fibromyalgia delivered by caesarian section (79.7%). Apgar score indicated that newborns of the study have a good vitality as the score is higher than or equal to 7 for the majority of newborns. A large number of newborns were apparently in good health (160/184) compared to unhealthy newborns (24/184). We saw that a large frequency of unhealthy newborns were born from women with fibromyalgia (14/24;58.3%) while a low proportion of apparently in good health newborns were born from women with fibromyalgia. Healthy newborns have not been observed. All together, these data highlight the prevalence of fibromyalgia in women who gave birth and a relationship between fibromyalgia of mother, delivery modality and newborn health. However, in the situation of newborns’ health, the link was not direct.

The ultrafine particles of silver chloride (AgCl) were obtained by mixing two separately prepared reversed micelle systems both containing a non-ionic surfactant,cyclohexane and an aqueous solution of either silver nitrate (AgNO3) or potassium chloride (KCl). The size distribution of spherical AgCl particles depended on the solubility behavior of aqueous electrolytes in surfactant solution. The NMR, near infrared,light-scattering, X-ray, UV spectroscopy and TEM (transmission electron microscopy) were used to examine the relationship between the size of particles and the states of solubilized water or reversed micelles. In the solubilized regions, it was found that three states of water were related to the formation of reversed and swollen micelles or W/O microemulsions. i.e, monodisperse particles were formed in reversed micelle and swollen micelle systems, whereas in W/O microemulsion system the particles became polydisperse.

Prediction of Anti-Inflammatory Activity of a Series of Pyrimidine Derivatives, by Multiple Linear Regression and Artificial Neural Networks

Anti-inflammatory activity of a series of tri-substituted pyrimidine derivatives was predicted using two Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship models. These relationships were developed from molecular descriptors calculated using the DFT quantum chemistry method using the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level of theory and molecular lipophilicity. Thus, the four descriptors which are the dipole moment μD, the energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital EHOMO, the isotropic polarizability α and the ACD/logP lipophilicity were selected for this purpose. The Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models are respectively accredited with the following statistical indicators: R2=91.28%, R2aj=89.11%, RMCE = 0.2831, R2ext=86.50% and R2=98.22%, R2aj=97.75%, RMCE = 0.1131, R2ext=98.54%. The results obtained with the artificial neural network are better than those of the multiple linear regression. However, these results show that the two models developed have very good predictive performance of anti-inflammatory activity. These two models can therefore be used to predict anti-inflammatory activity of new similar pyrimidine derivatives.

Due to acidic solutions aggressiveness, corrosion inhibitors use is considered to be one the most practical methods to delay metals dissolution in the said solutions. In this study benzimidazolyl derivative namely 2-cyanochalcones 2-(5-nitro-1,3-dihydrobenzimidazol-2-ylidene)-3-oxo-3-(2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl) propanenitrile which was synthesized was then applied as a corrosion inhibitor for copper in 1 M HNO3 solution. The inhibition action of this molecule was evaluated by gravimetric and density functional theory (DFT) methods. It was found experimentally that this compound has a better inhibition performance and its adsorption on copper surface follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm. This adsorption evolves with temperature and inhibitor concentration, it is endothermic and occurs spontaneously with an increase in disorder. Corrosion kinetic parameters analysis supported by Adejo-Ekwenchi model revealed the existence of both physisorption and chemisorption. DFT calculations related that compound adsorption on copper surface is due to its electron donating and accepting capacity. The reactive regions specifying the electrophilic and nucleophilic attack sites were analyzed using Fukui and dual descriptor functions. Experimental results obtained were compared with the theoretical findings.

Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship Study of a Benzimidazole-Derived Series Inhibiting Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv

This work was carried out on a series of twenty-two (22) benzimidazole derivatives with inhibitory activities against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv by applying the Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) method. The molecules were optimized at the level DFT/B3LYP/6-31 + G (d, p), to obtain the molecular descriptors. We used three statistical learning tools namely, the linear multiple regression (LMR) method, the nonlinear regression (NLMR) and the artificial neural network (ANN) method. These methods allowed us to obtain three (3) quantitative models from the quantum descriptors that are, chemical potential (μ), polarizability (α), bond length l (C = N), and lipophilicity. These models showed good statistical performance. Among these, the ANN has a significantly better predictive ability R2 = 0.9995;RMSE = 0.0149;F = 31879.0548. The external validation tests verify all the criteria of Tropsha et al. and Roy et al. Also, the internal validation tests show that the model has a very satisfactory internal predictive character and can be considered as robust. Moreover, the applicability range of this model determined from the levers shows that a prediction of the pMIC of the new benzimidazole derivatives is acceptable when its lever value is lower than 1.

Potential Probiotic tiger Nut-Cashew Nut-Milk Production by Fermentation with Two Lactic Bacteria Isolated from Ivorian Staple Foods

Probiotification of plant milk can improve its sensory and health-promoting properties. As traditional fermented foods where lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are present have been associated with beneficial effects on human health, the beneficial effects of two LAB recently isolated from two current Ivorian staple foods (a pepper and a traditional beer) were screened. These two strains LAC 1 (Lactobacillus plantarum) and LAC 2 (Pediococcus acidilactici) which presented probiotic, exopolysaccharides, inflammatory and anti-oxidant activities, were used to ferment a composite plant milk of tiger-nut and cashew (80/20) compared to two starters of a commercial yogourt. The obtained plant milks SCT 2 and SCT 3 with a significant increase in their antioxidant and/or anti-inflammatory activities and lactic bacteria contents were more preferred by consumers than SCT 1 obtained by fermentation of the commercial yogourt starters. The mixing of LAC 1 and LAC 2 was not beneficial. SCT 2 (with an anti-inflammatory activity of 31.38% and an anti-oxidant activity of 17.30%) and SCT 3 (with an anti-oxidant activity of 22.28) could be further tested in animal models to verify their nutrition-health claims.

Otological Injuries Observed in Head and Neck Trauma in a Second-Line Hospital

Otological injuries are common during cervicofacial trauma. The aim of this study is to describe the epidemiological characteristics and to map otological injuries during head and neck trauma. This was an observational, descriptive, prospective study conducted at the ENT unit of the Referral Health Center Hospital in Mali from January 2017 to September 2018. Patients with middle and/or inner ear injuries due to trauma were included. The prevalence of otologic injuries was 34.54% of cases. The mean age was 25 years and the sex ratio was 1.11. Students accounted for 42.10%. The mechanism of occurrence was an intentional assault in 68.42% of the cases followed by road traffic accidents (15.79%). The most common functional signs were hearing loss (68.42%), tinnitus (57.89%), and facial paralysis in 5.26%. Otoscopy showed tympanic perforation (47.83%), otorrhagia (21.05%) and otoliquorrhea (5.26%). Rock fractures with osteodural breach (10.53%) and pneumencephaly were found on a CT scan of the rock. The evolution was marked by the regression of the facial paralysis and the healing of the tympanum in 45.45% of the cases. Sequelae persisted in the form of sensorineural deafness (17%). The otological lesions observed during cervicofacial trauma are varied. The challenges in our context are felt at three levels: the improvement of the technical platform, the long-term follow-up of patients, and the cost of care in terms of equipment. These lesions are responsible for disabling deafness, a source of difficulty in social and school integration.

Anatomic Dissection of the Femoral Vein at the Bamako Anatomy Laboratory

Objectives: The purpose of this work was to measure the dimensions of the femoral veins, to describe the affluent and the variations of the femoral veins. Methodology: Twenty-four femoral veins of 12 fresh adult cadavers were dissected and photographed. Results: The diameter of the superficial, deep and common femoral veins was respectively 8.75 mm;7.60 mm and 13.95 mm. The common femoral vein was 80.70 mm long. At the level of the superficial vein, the modal disposition was noted in 79.17%;as anatomical variations, it was split in 2 cases, the presence of a collateral canal in 1 case and in 2, and it received a quadricipital muscle vein. At the level of the deep femoral vein, the modal disposition was noted in 16.67%, and the anatomical variations were noted in 83.33% where it received no affluent in the femoral trine. The modal disposition was noted in 91.67% at the level of the mode of birth of the common femoral vein, in 16.67% at the level of its tributaries. The anatomical variations were noted in 8.33% in the mode of birth of the femoral vein, in 83.33% in which the common femoral vein received, in addition to the large saphenous vein, other tributaries, the most frequent of which were the quadricipital veins and the circumflex femoral veins. Conclusion: The diameter of the femoral veins is important. The main tributaries of the common femoral vein are GVS, VQ and circumflex femoral veins. The femoral variations are numerous and important to know to avoid a possible misdiagnosis in case of their thrombosis.
