High refractive index dielectric nanoantennas strongly modify the decay rate via the Purcell effect through the design of radiative *** to their dielectric nature,the field is mainly confined inside the nanostructure and in the gap,which is hard to probe with scanning probe *** we use single-molecule fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy(smFLIM)to map the decay rate enhancement in dielectric GaP nanoantenna dimers with a median localization precision of 14 *** measure,in the gap of the nanoantenna,decay rates that are almost 30 times larger than on a glass *** comparing experimental results with numerical simulations we show that this large enhancement is essentially radiative,contrary to the case of plasmonic nanoantennas,and therefore has great potential for applications such as quantum optics and biosensing.

Objective:To identify possible stone-promoting microbes,we compared the profiles of microbes grown from stones of patients with and without metabolic syndrome(MetS).The association between MetS and urinary stone disease is well established,but the exact pathophysiologic relationship remains *** evidence suggests urinary tract dysbiosis may lead to increased nephrolithiasis ***:At the time of percutaneous nephrolithotomy,bladder urine and stone fragments were collected from patients with and without *** sample types were subjected to expanded quantitative urine culture(EQUC)and 16 S ribosomal RNA gene ***:Fifty-seven patients included 12 controls(21.1%)and 45 MetS patients(78.9%).Both cohorts were similar with respect to demographics and non-MetS *** controls had uric acid stone *** EQUC,bacteria were detected more frequently in MetS stones(42.2%)compared to controls(8.3%)(p=0.041).Bacteria also were more abundant in stones of MetS patients compared to *** validate our EQUC results,we performed 16 S ribosomal RNA gene *** 12/16(75.0%)sequence-positive stones,EQUC reliably isolated at least one species of the sequenced *** were detected in both“infectious”and“non-infectious”stone ***:Bacteria are more common and more abundant in MetS stones than control *** findings support a role for bacteria in urinary stone disease for patients with MetS regardless of stone composition.

A review on the best practices in concrete pavement design and materials in wet-freeze climates similar to Michigan

The research presented in this paper aims to identify best practices of design and materials for concrete pavements in wet-freeze climates similar to the Michigan State. For the purposes of this paper, a best practice is a procedure that has been shown by field-validated research or experience to produce improved results and that is established or proposed as a standard suitable for widespread implementation. The local wet-freeze climate makes the requirements for Michigan's pavement system different from many other regions. Wetfreeze climates can result in various concrete pavement distress mechanisms such as thermally-induced cracking, freeze-thaw deterioration, accelerated cracking due to loss of support, frost heave, and material degradation. Therefore, appropriate procedures for design and material selection need to be selected to withstand high precipitation and freezing winter temperatures. Failure to take into account the climatic conditions may lead to inadequate or reduced pavement performance. However, utilizing appropriate techniques and materials could potentially improve the quality and increase the service life of the concrete pavement. Three design methods and five materials have been identified, and examples of their successful performance in wet-freeze climates are provided. In addition, the reasons that give them the superior performance in wet-freeze climates are discussed in detail.

Adaptive moving mesh research usually focuses either on analytical deriva-tions for prescribed solutions or on pragmatic solvers with challenging physical appli-cations. In the latter case, the monitor functions that steer mesh adaptation are oftendefined in an ad-hoc way. In this paper we generalize our previously used moni-tor function to a balanced sum of any number of monitor components. This avoidsthe trial-and-error parameter fine-tuning that is often used in monitor functions. Thekey reason for the new balancing method is that the ratio between the maximum andaverage value of a monitor component should ideally be equal for all *** as a monitor component is a good motivating example for this. Entropy alsoturns out to be a very informative monitor component. We incorporate the monitorfunction in an adaptive moving mesh higher-order finite volume solver with HLLCfluxes, which is suitable for nonlinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws. Whenapplied to compressible gas flow it produces very sharp results for shocks and otherdiscontinuities. Moreover, it captures small instabilities (Richtmyer-Meshkov, Kelvin-Helmholtz). Thus showing the rich nature of the example problems and the effective-ness of the new monitor balancing.

Effects of turbulence on carbon emission in shallow lakes

Turbulent mixing is enhanced in shallow lakes. As a result, exchanges across the air–water and sediment–water interfaces are increased, causing these systems to be large sources of greenhouse gases. This study investigated the effects of turbulence on carbon dioxide（CO2）and methane（CH4） emissions in shallow lakes using simulated mesocosm *** demonstrated that turbulence increased CO2 emissions, while simultaneously decreasing CH4 emissions by altering microbial processes. Under turbulent conditions, a greater fraction of organic carbon was recycled as CO2 instead of CH4, potentially reducing the net global warming effect because of the lower global warming potential of CO2 relative to CH4. The CH4/CO2 flux ratio was approximately 0.006 under turbulent conditions, but reached 0.078 in the control. The real-time quantitative PCR analysis indicated that methanogen abundance decreased and methanotroph abundance increased under turbulent conditions, inhibiting CH4 production and favoring the oxidation of CH4 to *** findings suggest that turbulence may play an important role in the global carbon cycle by limiting CH4 emissions, thereby reducing the net global warming effect of shallow lakes.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus, a metabolic disease, is now an important public health problem across the world. Our aim was to study the epidemiological, clinical, paraclinical, and evolutionary aspects of acute metabolic complications (AMC) of diabetes in the endocrinology department of the Oueme-Plateau Provincial Teaching Hospital. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study with data collection based on the medical records of patients presenting with acute metabolic complications of diabetes in the endocrinology department of the Oueme-Plateau Provincial Teaching Hospital during the 3 years study period (from January 2020 to December 2022). Results: Over 788 patients hospitalized during the study period, 157 had an acute metabolic complication of diabetes, which is a hospital prevalence of 19.9%. Among these 157 cases, 140 were suitable for analysis and therefore constituted our study sample. The mean age of the patients was 49.9 ± 14.7 years, with 19 as minimum and 90 years as maximum. Most of them were women (52.4%). Hypertensive diabetics accounted for 54.9% of cases. Ketoacidosis was the most common complication (62.1%), followed by hyperosmolar hyperglycemic syndrome (23.6%) and hypoglycemia (14.3%). Infection (69.3%) and therapeutic noncompliance (22.9%) were the most common triggers. The average length period of their hospital stay was 7.1 ± 5.1 days, and the outcome was satisfactory in 87.9% of the cases. Unfortunately, there were 3.6% deaths during hospitalization. Conclusion: Acute metabolic complications of diabetes were dominated by ketoacidosis. Infection was the dominant factor in decompensation. Therapeutic education of diabetic patients as well as clinical and biological monitoring must be more stringent and rigorous.

Transforming growth factor-β （TGF-β） members are key cytokines that control embryogenesis and tissue homeostasis via transmembrane TGF-β type II （TβR II） and type I （TβRI） and serine/threonine kinases receptors. Aberrant activation of TGF-β signaling leads to diseases, including cancer. In advanced cancer, the TGF-β/SMAD pathway can act as an oncogenic factor driving tumor cell invasion and metastasis, and thus is considered to be a therapeutic target. The activity of TGF-β/SMAD pathway is known to be regulated by ubiquitination at multiple levels. As ubiquitination is reversible, emerging studies have uncovered key roles for ubiquitin-removals on TGF-β signaling components by deubiquitinating enzymes （DUBs）. In this paper, we summarize the latest findings on the DUBs that control the activity of the TGF-β signaling pathway. The regula- tory roles of these DUBs as a driving force for cancer progression as well as their underlying working mech- anisms are also discussed.

Introduction:Alzheimer 's disease(AD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder and the primary cause of dementia. Considerable evidence supports the “amyloid hypothesis,” stating that the pathogenesis of AD is primarily caused by the deposition of amyloid-β(Aβ), which drives tau phosphorylation, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration in the brain. The amyloid hypothesis is strengthened by the significant and moderate benefit of lecanemab, a humanized antibody through an anti-amyloid mechanism,showing slowed clinical decline(van Dyck et al.,2023). The recent positive results of anti-amyloid trials have brought back focus on the amyloid hypothesis through biochemical, genetic, and pharmacological approaches(Zhang, 2023).
