Manadas Creek is an urban tributary of the Rio Grande that flows past a decommissioned antimony smelter and processing plant. This antimony plant is associated with heavy metal contamination in the creek and still poses a threat to the surrounding aquatic environment. Corbicula fluminea was used to determine bioaccumulation from the water column and sediments in Manadas Creek. The metals arsenic (As), antimony (Sb) and thallium (Tl) were analyzed in the water, sediments, gills, mantle, foot, digestive (DI) tract, gonads and shell of clams being monitored at eight sites between March and August 2013. Sediment, water, and dissected Corbicula fluminea samples from different sites in the Creek were acid-digested and analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy. High levels of antimony (25.88 ug/L;75.96 mg/kg) and arsenic (8.26 ug/L;6.41 mg/kg) in the water and sediments were observed at the site downstream from the smelter. There were no detectable concentrations of arsenic, antimony, or thallium in the shell of C. fluminea. Arsenic and antimony were detected in the tissues of C. fluminea but thallium was not detected. Based on the results, the organotropism for arsenic is DI tract > gills > gonads > foot > mantle > shell and the organotropism for antimony is gills > DI tract > gonads > mantle > foot > shell. This study shows that the Asiatic clam (Corbicula fluminea) is a useful bio-monitor to provide data on the status of metal pollution in Manadas Creek, Laredo, Texas.

黄河流域是“能源流域”,兼具生态环境治理和经济社会发展的重任,涉煤产业场地类型、数量及特征的精准智能识别是流域能源资源-低碳发展-生态保护的关键基础问题。研究融合多源数据与深度学习算法,从流域-基地-场地尺度对黄河流域13个大型煤电基地的煤基场地特征精准解析,获得煤电基地高精度、高质量的本底信息,提出一种实时实景智能识别涉煤产业空间特征的新方法。(1)筛选Google image、GF-6影像、Sentinel-2影像等多源数据,采集13个大型煤电基地煤基场地样本,构建煤炭场地(露天)、煤炭场地(井工)、煤电场地、煤化工场地4类数据集,涵盖21种样本类型。按照每种样本六面体设定6×10个样本,共计1 260个场地样本,分析得出最适样本数量-最高识别效率-最优识别模型的置信区间为80%~86%。(2)建立了煤基场地类型量化模型(Coal-based Site Classification Quantitative Model, CSCQM)和煤基场地范围特征模型(Coalbased Site Range Characteristic Model, CSRCM),模型平均精准度为0.837。明析了黄河流域涉煤产业场地本底信息,提出Google image底图叠加场地智能识别模型解算结果的高精度场地智能识别方法。(3)解析了流域神东煤炭-煤电产业集聚区精准本底数据,依据遥感生态指数(Remote Sensing Based Ecological Index,IRSE)分析,煤基场地分布2 km核心区地表生态质量受煤炭、煤电产业影响明显,5 km缓冲区则影响不明显,而8 km控制区基本不受煤炭、煤电产业影响,从而给出了“动态修复”与分区域、分阶段重点治理等低碳路径。(4)解析了流域宁东煤炭-煤电-煤化工产业集聚区精准本底数据,2022年煤炭场地17.81 km^(2)、占比34.1%,煤化工场地22.3 km^(2)、占比42.6%,煤电场地12.2 km^(2)、占比23.3%,煤化工场地>煤炭场地>煤电场地。进而采用PSR(Pressure-State-Response)模型得到风险管控综合得分53.93分,较2003年提高了27.2%。划分生态维护区、生产监测预警区、损毁修复重建区、其他调控区的分区管控模式。研究为涉煤产业煤基场地潜在污染控制、场地治理及区域生态修复提供技术方法与实践支撑。

we aim to evaluate the incidence of incontinence following laser endoscopic enucleation of the prostate(EEP)comparing en-bloc(Group 1)versus 2-lobe/3-lobe techniques(Group 2).we performed a retrospective review of patients undergoing EEP for benign prostaticenlargement in 12 centers between January 2020 and January *** were presented as median and interquartile range(IQR).Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate factors associated with stress urinary incontinence(SUI)and mixed urinary incontinence(MUI).There were 1711 patients in Group 1 and 3357 patients in Group *** in Group 2were significantly younger(68[62–73]years vs 69[63–74]years,P=0.002).Median(interquartile range)prostate volume(PV)wassimilar between the groups(70[52–92]ml in Group 1 vs 70[54–90]ml in Group 2,P=0.774).There was no difference in preoperativeInternational Prostate Symptom Score,quality of life,or maximum flow ***,morcellation,and total surgical time weresignificantly shorter in Group *** 1 month,overall incontinence rate was 6.3%in Group 1 versus 5.3%in Group 2(P=0.12),and urge incontinence was significantly higher in Group 1(55.1%vs 37.3%in Group 2,Pnths,the overall rate ofincontinence was 1.7%in Group 1 versus 2.3%in Group 2(P=0.06),and SUI was significantly higher in Group 2(55.6%vs 24.1%in Group 1,P=0.002).At multivariable analysis,PV and IPSS were factors significantly associated with higher odds of transient SUI/***,surgical time,and no early apical release technique were factors associated with higher odds of persistent SUI/MUI.

Crude oil spillage is a major challenge in nigeria. It affects the environment, health, life, and livelihood of residents of the niger Delta region, where oil is explored, processed, and transported via a network of pipelines. Oil spillage is primarily caused by vandalization/sabotage and operational issues such as corrosion, equipment failure, operation, and maintenance errors. Thus, prompt response is required to mitigate the impact of oil spills. In this study, we deployed low-cost Arduino systems, including sensors (vibration and flow), modules (GPS and wifi) and an IoT platform (ThingSpeak) to detect spillage caused by vandalism and operational inefficiencies proactively. The results demonstrate that low-cost sensors can detect changes in the flow volume between the inflow and outflow attributable to spillage, and vibration shocks caused by vandalism can be detected and linked to the cause of the spillage and communicated in real time to inform response action. Moreover, we proposed a framework for field validation utilizing KoboToolBox (a crowdsourcing/citizen science platform). The prototype system designed and programmed showed promising results, as it could detect spillage for vandalism and operational scenarios in real-time, quantify the volume of spillage, and identify the location and time of spillage occurrence;indicators relevant for response planning to minimize the impact of oil spillage. Introduction:Alzheimer 's disease(AD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder and the primary cause of dementia. Considerable evidence supports the “amyloid hypothesis,” stating that the pathogenesis of AD is primarily caused by the deposition of amyloid-β(Aβ), which drives tau phosphorylation, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration in the brain. The amyloid hypothesis is strengthened by the significant and moderate benefit of lecanemab, a humanized antibody through an anti-amyloid mechanism,showing slowed clinical decline(van Dyck et al.,2023). The recent positive results of anti-amyloid trials have brought back focus on the amyloid hypothesis through biochemical, genetic, and pharmacological approaches(Zhang, 2023).

we report herein an interesting finding that heterocyclic molecules tethered branched polymers exhibit innate immune stimulating *** we conjugated a series of five-,six-,or seven-membered heterocyclic molecules to branched polyethylenimine(bPEI),over 70%of them could induce the secretion of interferon-β(IFn-β)from murine dendritic and human leukemia monocytic(DC2.4 and THP-1)cells through activating the stimulator of interferon genes(STInG)*** further proved that this kind of innate stimulating activity was dependent on the macromolecular architecture as heterocyclic molecules tethered linear PEI(lPEI)or dendritic polyamidoamine(PAMAM)induced no or much less IFn-β***,we prepared a series of poly-L-lysine(PLL)-derivatives with different branches to tether with heterocyclic molecules and proved that this kind of bPEI-like structure was important in en hancing the binding affinity with STInG proteins and for exhibiting innate stimulating activity.
