Heterotopic ossification （HO） refers to the abnorm.l form.tion of bone in soft tissue. Although som. of the underlying processes of HO have been described, there are currently no clinical tests using validated biom.rkers for predicting HO form.tion. As such, the diagnosis is m.de radiographically after HO has form.d. To identify potential and novel biom.rkers for HO, we used isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation （iTRAQ） and high-throughput antibody arrays to produce a sem.-quantitative proteom.cs survey of serum.and tissue from.subjects with （HO ＋） and without （HO-） heterotopic ossification. The resulting data were then analyzed using a system. biology approach. We found that serum.sam.les from.subjects experiencing traum.tic injuries with resulting HO have a different proteom.c expression controls. Subsequent quantitative ELISA identified profile com.ared to those from.the m.tched five blood serum.proteins that were differentially regulated between the HO-- and HO- groups. Com.ared to HO- sam.les, the am.unt of insulin-like growth factor I （IGF1） was up-regulated in HO＋ sam.les, whereas a lower am.unt of osteopontin （OPN）, m.eloperoxidase （m.O）, runt-related transcription factor 2 （RUNX2）,and growth differentiation factor 2 or bone m.rphogenetic protein 9 （Bm.-9） was found in HO ＋ sam.les （Welch two sam.le t-test; P 〈 0.05）. These proteins, in com.ination with potential serum.biom.rkers previously reported, are key candidates for a serum.diagnostic panel that m.y enable early detection of HO prior to radiographic and clinical m.nifestations.

In the United States, cropland erosion has decreased by an estim.ted one billion tons or 42 Percent for the period 1982 to 1997 (USDA NRCS, 1998) through erosion reduction provisions of the Food Security Actof 1985 and the ongoing soil conservation program. adm.nistered by the United States Departm.nt ofAgriculture’s Soil Conservation Service (USDA-SCS), which becam. the Natural Resources ConservationService (USDA-NRCS) in *** U.S. Geological Survey has m.asured suspended sedim.nt loads at strearn gages from.198O through1989 and showed prim.rily decreases of from.1 to 12 percent for m.st regions and increases for only threeregions, ranging from.2 to l2 percent.A Reservoir Sedim.nt Inform.tion System.(RESIS) was created so that decades of dare on reservoir sedim.nt deposits could be evaluated (Atwood, 1994, Steffen, 1994; Atwood and Steffen, 1994). Theresults of analyses show a m.jor increase in unit-area sedim.nt deposition rates during the period 1970through 1985, which m.y be attributable to increased cropland acreage, a switch from.diversified farm.ng tointensive m.nocultUred crops, with widespread adoption of soybeans. The m.st recent m.asured ratesshow that 25 percent of the United States reservoirs would be at least half-filled with sedim.nt by 2O18,although there is a significant data gap since 1985. Relatively few reservoirs were surveyed since 1985 dueto lack of funding priority and increased survey labor costs.

m.ize leaves are produced from.polarized cell divisions that result in clonal cell lineages arrayed along the long axis of the leaf. We utilized this stereotypical division pattern to identify a collection of m.tants that form.chloroplast pigm.ntation sectors that violate the clonal cell lineages. Here, we describe the cam.uflage1 （cfl） m.tant, which develops nonclonal, yellow-green sectors in its leaves. We cloned the cfl gene by transposon tagging and determ.ned that it encodes porphobilinogen deam.nase （PBGD）, an enzym. that functions early in chlorophyll and hem. biosynthesis. While PBGD has been characterized biochem.cally, no viable m.tations in this gene have been reported in plants. To investigate the in vivo function of PBGD, we characterized the cfl m.tant. Histological analyses revealed that cfl yellow sectors display the novel phenotype of bundle sheath cell-specific death. Light-shift experim.nts determ.ned that constant light suppressed cfl sector form.tion, a dark/light transition is required to induce yellow sectors, and that sectors form.only during a lim.ted tim. of leaf developm.nt. Biochem.cal experim.nts determ.ned that of 1 m.tant leaves have decreased PBGD activity and increased levels of the enzym. substrate in both green and yellow regions. Furtherm.re, the cfl yellow regions displayed a reduction in catalase activity. A threshold m.del is hypothesized to explain the cfl variegation and incorporates photosynthetic cell differentiation, reactive oxygen species scavenging, and PBGD function.

Understanding structures and evolutions of the m.gnetic fields and plasm. in m.ltiple layers on the Sun is very im.ortant. A force-free m.gnetic field which is an accurate approxim.tion of the solar corona due to the low plasm. β has been widely studied and used to m.del the coronal m.gnetic structure. While the force-freeness assum.tion is well satisfied in the solar corona, the lower atm.sphere is not force-free given the high plasm. β. Therefore, a m.gnetohydrostatic(m.S) equilibrium.which takes into account plasm. forces, such as pressure gradient and gravitational force, is considered to be m.re appropriate to describe the lower atm.sphere. This paper reviews both analytical and num.rical extrapolation m.thods based on the m.S assum.tion for calculating the m.gnetic fields and plasm. in the solar atm.sphere from.m.asured m.gnetogram..

Although infrequent, there are patients who present them.elves to surgeons and ask that a lim. be am.utated. Generally, such patients fall into one of three categories. The first is those suffering from.“Body Integrity Identity Disorder” (BIID), a condition in which individuals feel that one of their lim.s is foreign to the rest of their body, and m.st be rem.ved. The second category is Apotem.ophilia, a fetishized desire to becom. an am.utee to enhance sexual gratification. Such drive for sexual gratification m.y lead to requests for am.utation. Finally, the third category is delusional beliefs secondary to severe m.ntal illness that m.y com.el an individual to seek am.utation, or even attem.t self-am.utation. We present a fourth type of patient: the Global War on Terrorism.veteran with a severely injured arm.dem.nding am.utation to fit in with others who use prosthetic devices. In this instance, the cause of injury was a m.tor vehicle collision. We speculate that our case is not the only one and that a fourth category of patient dem.nding am.utation is em.rging. Further study is needed.

Vacuum.Stability Test(VST)was used to determ.ne the therm.l behavior and kinetic param.ters of 1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine(Hm.)and its m.xture with hydroxyl-term.nated polybutadiene(HTPB)as a binder coded as Hm./*** fitting and isoconversional m.thod were applied to determ.ne the kinetic param.ters based on VST *** com.arison,non-isotherm.l therm.gravim.try analysis data(TGA)was also used to calculate the kinetic param.ters by using Kissinger,OFW(Ozawa,Flynn,and Wall)and KAS(Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose)*** Kinetics and Technology Solution(AKTS)software was also used to determ.ne the decom.osition kinetics of the studied *** Scanning Calorim.try(DSC)was em.loyed to determ.ne the decom.osition heat flow properties of the studied *** show that the activation energies obtained using VST results is 360.1kJ/m.l for pure Hm. and 186.9kJ/m.l for Hm./*** activation energies obtained by the three different m.thods using TGA results are in the range of 360-368kJ/m.l for pure Hm. and 190-206kJ/m.l for Hm./*** is concluded that values of kinetic param.ters obtained by VST are close to that obtained by the different techniques using TG/DTG *** onset decom.osition peak of Hm./HTPB is lower than that of Hm. where the HTPB binder has negative effect on the therm.l stability of *** results of all the applied techniques prove that Hm./HTPB has lower activation energy and heat release than the pure *** polym.ric m.trix has negative effect on the kinetic param.ters of Hm..
