Parenteral nutrition-associated liver disease(PNALD)is a liver dysfunction caused by various risk factors presented in patients receiving total parenteral nutrition(TPN).Omega-6 rich Intralipid?and omega-3 rich Omegaven?are two intravenous lipid emulsions used in *** could affect the hepatic expression of genes in anti-oxidative stress,but it’s unknown whether TPN affects genes in drug *** this study,either Intralipid?-or Omegaven?-based TPN was administered to mice and the expression of a cohort of genes involved in anti-oxidative stress or drug metabolism was analyzed,glutathione(GSH)levels were measured,and protein levels for two key drug metabolism geneswere ***,the expression of most genes was downregulated by Intralipid?-based TPN(Gstpl,Gstml,3,6,Nqol,Ho-1,Mt-1,Gclc,Gclm,Cyp2d9,2f2,2b 10,and 3a11).Omegaven?showed similar results as Intralipid?except for preserving the expression of Gstml and Cyp3a11,and increasing *** GSH levels were decreased by Intralipid?,but increased by Omegaven?.CYP3A11 protein levels were increased by Omegaven?.In conclusion,TPN reduced the expression of many genes involved in anti-oxidative stress and drug metabolism in ***,Omegaven?preserved expression of Cyp3a11,suggesting another beneficial effect of Omegaven?in protecting liver functions.

Introduction:Alzheimer 's disease(AD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder and the primary cause of dementia. Considerable evidence supports the “amyloid hypothesis,” stating that the pathogenesis of AD is primarily caused by the deposition of amyloid-β(Aβ), which drives tau phosphorylation, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration in the brain. The amyloid hypothesis is strengthened by the significant and moderate benefit of lecanemab, a humanized antibody through an anti-amyloid mechanism,showing slowed clinical decline(van Dyck et al.,2023). The recent positive results of anti-amyloid trials have brought back focus on the amyloid hypothesis through biochemical, genetic, and pharmacological approaches(Zhang, 2023).

The Spread of Deism in the Reformed Church in the South Eastern Region of the Kingdom of Hungary at the Turn of the 18th- 19th Century

Deism is one of the branches of radical Enlightenment which states that God creates the World, but he does not intervene into its operation. Theological dogmas are completely useless because these rules are not necessary for the prosperity of people. These ideas were very dangerous to Christianity; however, they were widespread in many parts of Europe in the 18th century. The Reformed Diocese of Bekes was located in the south eastern area of the Kingdom of Hungary, whose followers practised an essentially rural way of life; therefore, they hardly read any scientific and philosophical works. In spite of this fact, the spread of the ideas characteristic of deism can be observed in numerous dioceses. The reception of deism in southeast Hungary can be witnessed not in the traditional intellectual documents （school curriculum, translations, and philosophical treatises）, but in the documents of the ecclesiastical government： Church attendance records, documents of the proceedings of the ecclesiastical courts. With the detailed analysis of the ecclesiastical administration documents of the Reformed Church, this study investigates how folk religion relates to deism and the criticism of religion by the radical Enlightenment.

Insufficient etiological workup of COVID-19-associated acute pancreatitis: A systematic review

BACKGROUND Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2) infection, mostly causing respiratory symptoms, is also known to affect the gastrointestinal tract. Several case reports hypothesize that SARS-CoV-2 could be an etiological factor in acute pancreatitis(AP).AIM To assess all the available evidence in the literature relating to coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) and *** We performed a systematic review of the available literature on the topic. The systematic search was conducted on 15 May 2020 on MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, Web of Science and Scopus with a search key using the terms "amylase," "lipase," "pancr*," "COVID-19" and synonyms. Due to the low quality and poor comparability of the studies, a meta-analysis was not *** Six case reports and two retrospective cohorts were included, containing data on eleven COVID-19 patients with AP. Five patients had AP according to the Atlanta classification. Other publications did not provide sufficient information on the diagnostic criteria. Most cases were considered SARS-CoV-2-induced, while several established etiological factors were not investigated. We were able to identify other possible causes in most of *** We strongly highlight the need for adherence to the guidelines during a diagnostic and etiological workup, which could alter therapy.

On the Dynamic Equilibrium in Homeostasis

We studied the homeostatic equilibrium of the healthy organism. The homeostasis is controlled by oppositely effective physiologic feedback signal-pairs in various time-scales. We show the entropy of every signal in this state is identical and constant: SE = 1.8. The controlling physiological signals fluctuate around their average values. The fluctuation is time-fractal, (pink-noise), which characterizes the homeostasis. The aging is the degradation of the competing pairs of signals, decreasing the complexity of the organism. This way, the color of the noise gradually changes to brown. A special scaling process occurs during the aging: the exponent of the frequency dependence of the power density function grows in this process from 1 to 2, but the homeostasis of the system is unchanged.

IL23R single nucleotide polymorphisms could be either beneficial or harmful in ulcerative colitis

AIM To investigate the association of seven single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) of the IL23 R gene with the clinical picture of ulcerative colitis(UC). METHODS Genomic DNA samples of 131 patients (66 males, 65 females, mean age 55.4 ± 15.8 years) with Caucasian origin, diagnosed with UC were investigated. The diagnosis of UC was based on the established clinical, endoscopic, radiological, and histopathological guidelines. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes by routine salting out method. Polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism were used to identify the alleles of seven SNPs of IL23 R gene(rs11209026, rs10889677, rs1004819, rs2201841, rs7517847, rs10489629, rs7530511).RESULTS Four out of seven analyzed SNPs had statistically significant influence on the clinical picture of UC. Two SNPs were associated with greater colonic extension(rs2201841 P = 0.0084; rs10489629 P = 0.0405). For two of the SNPs, there was more frequently need for operations (rs2201841 P = 0.0348, OR = 8.0; rs10889677 P = 0.0347, OR = 8.0). The rs2201841 showed to be a risk factor for the development of iron deficiency (P = 0.0388, OR = 6.1837). For patients with the rs10889677, a therapy with azathioprine was more frequently necessary(P = 0.0116, OR = 6.1707). Patients with rs10489629 SNP had a lower risk for weight loss(P = 0.0169, OR = 0.3394). Carriers of the heterozygous variant had a higher risk for an extended disease (P = 0.0284). The rs7517847 showed a protective character leading to mild bowel movements. Three SNPs demonstrated no statistically significant influence on any examined clinical features of *** We demonstrated susceptible or protective character of the investigated IL23 R SNPs on the phenotype of UC, confirming the genetic association.

Magnetohydrostatic modeling of the solar atmosphere

Understanding structures and evolutions of the magnetic fields and plasma in multiple layers on the Sun is very important. A force-free magnetic field which is an accurate approximation of the solar corona due to the low plasma β has been widely studied and used to model the coronal magnetic structure. While the force-freeness assumption is well satisfied in the solar corona, the lower atmosphere is not force-free given the high plasma β. Therefore, a magnetohydrostatic(MHS) equilibrium which takes into account plasma forces, such as pressure gradient and gravitational force, is considered to be more appropriate to describe the lower atmosphere. This paper reviews both analytical and numerical extrapolation methods based on the MHS assumption for calculating the magnetic fields and plasma in the solar atmosphere from measured magnetograms.
