Gastro-gastric intussusception in the setting of a neuroendocrine tumor: A case report

BACKGROUND While in children intussusception is often idiopathic,in adults it is commonly caused by a pathologic condition functioning as a lead *** is important to note that a variety of pathologic conditions may trigger intussusception,with malignancy being a relatively frequent culprit in adults;this should be considered high on the differential diagnosis during *** SUMMARY This is a case of a 40-year-old female presenting to the emergency department(ED)with three days of acute on chronic,peri-umbilical abdominal pain described as waxing and waning,and pressure-like in *** computed tomography(CT)of the abdomen and pelvis with contrast in the ED(after her pain had resolved)re-demonstrated a previously noted 13 mm lesion in the gastric antrum but no clear cause of the *** ultrasound was pursued,and the mass lesion was sampled via fine needle ***-procedure the patient experienced another episode of severe pain which prompted a repeat stat CT abdomen and pelvis with contrast;this re-demonstrated the 13 mm antral lesion and in addition was remarkable for a gastro-gastric *** upper gastrointestinal gastrograffin series was ordered(completed only after the pain had subsided)and showed resolution of the *** was consistent with a diagnosis of low-grade neuroendocrine tumor(NET).Surgery was initially deferred during the hospitilization given the low grade pathology of the lesion;however further multidisciplinary discussion between Surgery,Oncology,and Gastroenterology recommended resection given the patient’s recurrent abdominal pain with the NET functioning as a lead point for further intussusception,and the patient thus underwent robotically-assisted wedge *** We present a unique case of severe,intermittent,peri-umbilical pain related to gastro-gastric intussusception caused by an antral NET lead *** case highlights the importance of considering neoplasms as t

Three-dimensional(3D)matrix models using hydrogels are powerful tools to understand and predict cell *** interactions between the cell and its matrix,however is highly complex:the matrix has a profound effect on basic cell functions but simultaneously,cells are able to actively manipulate the matrix ***(mechano)reciprocity between cells and the extracellular matrix(ECM)is central in regulating tissue functions and it is fundamentally important to broadly consider the biomechanical properties of the in vivo ECM when designing in vitro matrix *** manuscript discusses two commonly used biopolymer networks,*** and fibrin gels,and one synthetic polymer network,polyisocyanide gel(PIC),which all possess the characteristic nonlinear mechanics in the biological stress *** start from the structure of the materials,then address the uses,advantages,and limitations of each material,to provide a guideline for tissue engineers and biophysicists in utilizing current materials and also designing new materials for 3D cell culture purposes.

Oscillating droplet tribometer for sensitive and reliable wetting characterization of superhydrophobic surfaces

Accurate wetting characterization is crucial for the development of next‐generation superhydrophobic ***,wetting properties are measured with a contact angle goniometer(CAG)suitable for a broad range of ***,due to optical errors and challenges in baseline positioning,the CAG method suffers from inaccuracies on superhydrophobic *** we present an improved version of the oscillating droplet tribometer(ODT),which can reliably assess wetting properties on superhydrophobic surfaces by measuring the frictional forces of a water‐based ferrofluid droplet oscillating in a magnetic *** demonstrate that ODT has superior accuracy compared to CAG by measuring the wetting properties of four different superhydrophobic surfaces(commercial Glaco and hydrobead coatings,black silicon coated with fluoropolymer,and nanostructured copper modified with lauric acid).We show that ODT can detect the small but significant changes in wetting properties caused by the thermal restructuring of surfaces that are undetectable by *** more,unlike any other wetting characterization technique,ODT features an inverse sensitivity:the more repellent the surface,the lower the error of measurement,which was demonstrated by experiments and simulations.

A generic numerical model of a long-wavelength Avalanche Photodiode （APD） based on narrow bandgap semiconductor InAsSb on InAs substrate is reported for the first time. This model has been applied for theoretical characterization of a proposed N^＋ InAS/P-InAsSb avalanche photodiode structure for possible application in 2-5 μm wavelength region. The parameters such as gain, excess noise factor and their trade-off with variation of doping concentration and bias voltage have been estimated for the APD taking into account history-dependent theory of avalanche multiplication process, The LWIR APD is expected to fred application in optical gas sensor and in future generation of optical communication system.

Better tillage selection before ridge–furrow film mulch can facilitate root proliferation, and increase nitrogen accumulation,translocation and grain yield of maize in a semiarid area

Plastic film mulch systems are used widely in arid areas, and the associated tillage measures affect soil properties, root and crop growth, and nutrient uptake. however, much debate surrounds the most suitable tillage method for plastic film mulch systems. We conducted a two-year field experiment to explore the impact of three tillage treatments-rotary tillage before ridge–furrow plastic film mulch(MR), no-tillage before ridge–furrow plastic film mulch(MZ), and plow tillage before ridge–furrow plastic film mulch(MP)-on soil total nitrogen, available nitrogen, root stratification structure,nitrogen transfer and utilization, and maize yield. The results showed that MP had better soil quality than either MR or MZ over 2019 and 2020, with higher nitrate-nitrogen and total nitrogen in the 0–40 cm soil layer. MP improved the soil physicochemical properties more than the other treatments, producing significantly higher root numbers and root biomass for the aerial and underground nodal roots than MR and MZ. At harvest, MP had the highest root biomass density,root length density, and root surface area density in the different soil layers(0–20, 20–40, and 0–40 cm). Significant correlations occurred between root biomass and aboveground nitrogen accumulation during maize growth. During grain filling, MP had the greatest nitrogen transfer amount, significantly increasing root and aboveground nitrogen transfer by 19.63–45.82% and 11.15–24.56%, respectively, relative to the other treatments. MP significantly produced 1.36–26.73%higher grain yields and a higher grain crude protein content at harvest than MR and MZ. MP also had higher values for the nitrogen harvest index, nitrogen uptake efficiency, and partial factor productivity of nitrogen fertilizer than MR and *** conclusion, plow tillage combined with a ridge–furrow plastic film mulch system facilitated maize root development and improved nitrogen utilization, thereby increasing maize yield more than the other treatments.

Two-dimensional structure of density fluctuations is examined during the current jump phase, indicating a change from the open magnetic fields to the closed ones. During the smooth current ramp-up phase the two-dimensional contour of the LiI intensity shows vertically alignment, consistent with the magnetic surfaces. At the inflection point in Ip ramp-up the LiI intensity contour becomes flat in the observation regime and then suddenly a steep gradient and higher intensity regime are formed in the vertical direction. This higher intensity corresponds to a burst of LiI waveform. According to these changes in the contour, it is found that, within ~1 ms around the burst of LiI, a low frequency coherent wave with a long wavelength rapidly grows. The relations with other signals （magnetic flux and microwave stray power） are discussed with respect to the topological change in the magnetic configuration and mode conversion of the incident electromagnetic waves.

Multi-band photometry and light curve analysis for two newly recognized contact binary systems,TYC 6995-813-1 and NSVS 13602901,are *** were found to be of extreme low mass ratios 0.11 and 0.17,*** secondary components of both systems show evidence of considerable evolution with elevated densities as well as both luminosity and radii well above their main sequence *** in the absence of significant spot activity,at least one of the systems,TYC 6995-813-1,displays features of magnetic and chromospheric *** 6995-813-1 is also determined to be a potential merger candidate with its current separation near the theoretical instability separation.

ABCD^(2) risk score does not predict the presence of cerebral microemboli in patients with hyper-acute symptomatic critical carotid artery stenosis

Protein sources and starch-protein digestive dynamics manipulate growth performance in broiler chickens defined by an equilateraltriangle response surface design

A total of 360 male,off-sex Ross 308 chicks were offered 10 dietary treatments from 14 to 35 d post ehatch in an equilateral-triangle response surface design feeding study in order to confirm the importance of protein and amino acid digestive dynamics in broiler *** 3 apical diets were nutritionally-equivalent containing either soybean meal,non-bound amino acids or whey protein concentrate as the major source of dietary protein and amino *** blends of the 3 apical diets comprised the balance of 7 diets and each dietary treatment was offered to 6 replicate cages with 6 birds per *** performance,nutrient utilisation,apparent protein and starch digestibility coefficients were determined in 4 small intestinal *** optimal weight gain(2,085 g/bird)and feed conversion ratios(FCR,1.397)were generated by Diet 50S50W which included a 50:50 blend of apical diets rich in whey protein concentrate and soybean *** chickens offered Diet 50S50W also had the highest experimental and predicted jejunal digestibility(0.685 in proximal jejunum and 0.823 in distal jejunum).FCR was not correlated with apparent distal ileal digestibility coefficient(P>0.05)of protein but was correlated with apparent protein digestibility in proximal jejunum(r=-0.369,P=0.040)and distal jejunum(r=-0.316,P=0.015).Surplus dietary starch was correlated with increased fat pad weight(r=0.781,P?0.008).The findings confirmed the relevance of protein digestion rate,reflected by jejunal digestibility,on feed conversion of broiler chickens.A balance between protein-bound and non-bound crystalline or synthetic amino acids may be required for optimal growth and protein digestion.
