STEP AP 242 Managed Model-based 3D Engineering:An Application Towards the Automation of.f.xture Planning

f.xture design and planning is one of.the most important manuf.cturing activities, playing a pivotal role in deciding the lead time f.r product development. f.xture design, which af.ects the part-quality in terms of.geometric accuracy and surf.ce f.nish, can be enhanced by using the product manuf.cturing inf.rmation(PMI) stored in the neutral standard f.r the exchange of.product model data(STEP) f.le, thereby integrating design and manuf.cturing. The present paper proposes a unique f.xture design approach, to extract the geometry inf.rmation f.om STEP application protocol(AP) 242 f.les of.computer aided design(CAD) models, f.r providing automatic suggestions of.locator positions and clamping surf.ces. Automatic f.ature extraction sof.ware "f.Xplan", developed using the programming language C#, is used to extract the part f.ature, dimension and geometry inf.rmation. The inf.rmation f.om the STEP AP 242 f.le is deduced using geometric reasoning techniques, which in turn is utilized f.r f.xture planning. The developed sof.ware is observed to be adept in identif.ing the primary, secondary, and tertiary locating f.ces and locator position conf.gurations of.prismatic components. Structural analysis of.the prismatic part under dif.erent locator positions was perf.rmed using commercial f.nite element method sof.ware, ABAQUS, and the optimized locator position was identif.ed on the basis of.minimum def.rmation of.the *** area-ratio(base locator enclosed area(%)/work piece base area(%)) f.r the ideal locator conf.guration was observed as 33%. Experiments were conducted on a prismatic workpiece using a specially designed f.xture, f.r dif.erent locator conf.gurations. The surf.ce roughness and waviness of.the machined surf.ces were analysed using an Alicona non-contact optical prof.lometer. The best surf.ce characteristics were obtained f.r the surf.ce machined under the ideal locator positions having an area-ratio of.33%, thus validating the predicted numerical resul

Cloacal malf.rmations are characterized by the conf.uence of.the lower urinary tract,the f.male reproductive tract,and the rectum to create a common channel with a single opening on the *** presence of.a cloaca is a normal phase of.early human embryological *** the 4^th and 7^th weeks of.gestation,the cloaca undergoes subdivision to f.rm the hindgut and urogenital *** of.this process results in the congenital anomaly termed persistent cloaca(PC).The term urorectal septum malf.rmation sequence(URSMS)is also used to describe this *** classic description of.this process which is still cited in many standard textbooks dates f.om the 19th ***,this has been increasingly called into question by the f.ndings of.studies using modern scientif.c *** sinus anomalies are def.ned by the conf.uence of.the urethra and vagina to f.rm a common channel of.varying length with a single perineal *** this condition,the anorectal canal opens separately on the *** presence of.a urogenital sinus represents a transient phase of.the normal development of.the lower genital tract in the f.male ***,the f.rm of.urogenital sinus most commonly encountered in the developed world is a f.ature of.disordered sexual dif.erentiation and does not arise simply f.om the persistence of.the anatomical structure which is a f.ature of.normal f.tal development.

Evaluation of.diverse classif.cation approaches f.r land use/cover mapping in a Mediterranean region utilizing Hyperion data

Inf.rmation on Earth’s land surf.ce cover is commonly obtained through digital image analysis of.data acquired f.om remote sensing *** this study,we evaluated the use of.diverse classif.cation techniques in discriminating land use/cover types in a typical Mediterranean setting using Hyperion *** this purpose,the spectral angle mapper(SAM),the object-based and the non-linear spectral unmixing based on artif.cial neural networks(ANNs)techniques were applied.A f.rther objective had been to investigate the ef.ect of.two approaches f.r training sites selection in the SAM classif.cation,namely of.the pixel purity index(PPI)and of.the direct selection of.training points f.om the Hyperion imagery assisted by a QuickBird imagery and f.eld-based training *** classif.cation outperf.rmed the other techniques with an overall accuracy of.83%.Sub-pixel classif.cation based on the ANN showed an overall accuracy of.52%,very close to that of.SAM(48%).SAM applied using the training sites selected directly f.om the Hyperion imagery supported by the QuickBird image and the f.eld visits returned an increase accuracy by 16%.Yet,all techniques appeared to suf.er f.om the relatively low spatial resolution of.the Hyperion imagery,which af.ected the spectral separation among the land use/cover classes.

Unif.rm agitation of.the quenchant is a critically important control parameter in optimizing distortion control and reducing steel cracking. Quenching with ultrasonic agitation or in the presence of.electrical and magnetic f.elds provide unif.rm agitation leading to improved unif.rmity of.the stress f.elds within the metal not readily achievable with more traditional agitation methods such as propeller pumps and sprays. These methods provide the additional potential advantage of.varying agitation throughout the cooling cycle to achieve a wide range of.cooling prof.les not readily achievable with quenchants and more traditional agitation systems currently in use.

Metallographic Characterization of.the Microstructure of.Tool Steels

Examination of.selectively etched tool steel microstructures by light microscopy provides more inf.rmation than standard etchants, such as nital, picral or Vilella’s reagent. f.rther, the images are more suitable f.r quantitative measurements, especially by image analysis. Specimens must be properly prepared, damage f.ee, if.selective etchants are to be applied successf.lly. A number of.etchants have been claimed to selectively etch certain carbides in tool steels. The response of.these etchants has been evaluated using a variety of.well-characterized tool steel compositions. While many are selective, they are of.en selective to more than one type of.carbide. f.rthermore, their use in image analysis must be evaluated caref.lly as measurements showed that the amount and size of.the carbides are of.en greater af.er selective etching as many of.these reagents outline and color or attack the carbides. Selective etching of.the matrix, leaving the carbides unaf.ected works well, but no one etchant will cover the broad spectrum of.tool steel compositions. No etchant has been f.und that will color retained austenite in tool steels and image analysis of.retained austenite in tool steels are always much lower than by x-ray dif.raction unless retained austenite is the dominant phase present in grossly over-austenitized steels.

Recent outbreak of.avian-origin inf.uenza A （H7N9） virus in the Yangtze River Delta area, China, expanding to neighboring areas in a later stage, with 36 deaths of.130 cases （as of.May 16th） reminds the world of.the threat avian inf.uenza poses to the human health. Unlike the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus, which kills the birds [1-3], H7N9 is avirulent to either domestic poultry or migratory birds, which makes the situation even worse as it is hard to iden- tif. the birds who carry the viruses.

Hydrothermal carbonization of.livestock mortality f.r the reduction of.pathogens and microbially-derived DNA

Hydrothermal carbonization （HTC）, utilizing high temperature and pressure, has the potential to treat agricultural waste via inactivating pathogens, antibiotic resistance genes （ARG）, and contaminants of.emerging concern （CEC） in a environmental and economical manner. Livestock mortality is one f.cet of.agricultural waste that can pose a threat to the surrounding environment. While several methods are utilized to treat livestock mortality, there remains a paucity of.data on the elimination of.microbially- derived DNA in these treatment practices. This DNA, most notably ARGs, if.it survives treatment can be reintroduced in agricultural environments where it could potentially be passed to pathogens, posing a risk to animal and human populations. HTC treatments have been successf.lly utilized f.r the treatment of.CECs, however very little is understood on how ARGs survive HTC treatment. This study aims to f.ll this knowledge gap by examining the survivability of.icrobially-derived DNA in the HTC treatment of.livestock mortality. We examined three treatment temperatures （100℃, 150℃, and 200℃） at autogenic pressures at three treatment times （30, 60, and 240 min）. We examined the amplif.cation of.a plasmid-bome reporter gene carried by Escherichia coli DH 10B introduced to both beef.bone and tissue. Results indicate that while all three temperatures, at all treatment times, were suitable f.r complete pathogen kill, only temperatures of.150℃ and 200℃ were suf.icient f.r eliminating microbial DNA. These results serve as the basis f.r f.ture potential HTC treatment recommendations f.r livestock mortality when considering the elimination of.pathogens and ARGs.
